I been a fan of Firefly since I watched it, I wanted to see it because it looked like it copied one of my fave animes (Outlaw Star), and unlike some of my other fellow fans. I watched FireFly and saw it didn't copy Outlaw Star, and fell in love with it.

But with my question, is there any guesses of who Shepherd Book really is?

I think the most popular theory is that he's actually an actor named Ron Glass...

Sorry, I couldn't resist...Welcome!!! Glad to have another Outlaw Star fan here!

My belief is that he is was a high ranking Alliance official that became disallusioned during the war and became a shepherd. Hopefully we'll get answers when the series comes back after the movie becomes a blockbuster!

Welcome, and enjoy your stay!

No one really knows who Book is, but there are theories! You'll find them, they pop up a lot.

It's been rumored that Book was once a police officer. A detective in the twelfth precinct, New York City.

Thread Hijack sort of: I recently rented the first season of Barney Miller on DVD and some of the episodes really stand up. They tried to do a lot with the show and at times succeeded. And it was well acted, altho the scripts weren't always up to the task. Ron Glass (Shepherd Book) was the only literary detective I ever saw on TV.

Oh yes, it was a fantastic show. I'm still convinced that the beginning of the end for quality television was when they cancelled Barney Miller, WKRP, and Taxi all in the same season. Anyway, Ron Glass was on two of my favorites.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board Chaos. Always glad to have another Browncoat aboard. Hope to see you posting regularly w/ us.

As to Book, there are plenty of theories flying around out there, but no hard evidence to really support any of them. The favorite seems to be that Book is former Alliance, perhaps some high ranking officer or official.
