Old thread is getting loooong and I couldn't resist when I saw this:

Certainly!
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=5&t=29479
Short version: Image must be hosted somewhere on the internet and all you need is the URL. Photobucket, imageshack, and flickr are your friends. See above-linked thread for further details, or click 'reply with quote' to see how others have done it.)
Also, PLEASE NOTE: the tutorial thread is an excellent resource and we don't want it to get overloaded and weighed down. Please test your image posts in one of the many 'test' threads scattered over the board, particularly out of the way in troll country, or start your own to help keep the tutorial nice and easy to load.

P.S. this info is always, always available in the latest picture thread, all of which are in Talk Story.

Yay, another care package arrived today, filled with Dresden, Altoids and honey sticks.

Does it reflect badly on my sugar consumption levels if I use a honey stick instead of sugar in my tea, and can't taste the honey at all (it just tastes like tea without sugar)?

Dresden's looking good so far, halfway through Blood Rites atm (I am supposed to read it before Dead Beat, yes?).

Lots of nasty weather here, including winds strong enough to flatten sheds and send garbage bins on random paths across the road, causing havoc amongst drivers.

Oh yeah, and I have a job interview tomorrow.

Hey PR,

in fairness, the first one is done. Just the minor matter of it being no good. However, started and finished whilst at uni while the second has been worked on sporadically whilst working and not had the attention it deserves.

At this rate I'll get it done in 2012 unless I get signed off by the Doctor for a couple of months.

From what I've heard MsG and other teachers say, it sounds more like "we must raise the grades given to all students each year in order to get paid, regardless of actual student abilities."

Anyway, the job interview was more of a casual "getting to know you" chat, which was good. I more or less have the job, just need to pass the basic fitness test and the drug test (yes, they do random drug checks, and some people have lost their jobs as a result). Although I'd be starting off in sample preparation, there's a good chance I'll get moved to lab work or even supervisory stuffs after a month or two. So yay for gainful employment and cashy monies. Just have to make sure I can get time off to go OS to spend time with Rose and attend D*C.

What I could really do with, is someone, either my doctor or someone from the NHS saying yes, this is what is wrong with you and here's how we can fix/manage it. I know that I'm by not the worst person off for health at the moment but combined with all the crap at work and it's all a but much. One or other would probably be doable but both seem to be a bit much at the mo, still we'll see what the doc says tomorrow.

HUGS and fingers crossed for Nico, Rose, and Mav...

Morning all:)
Actually No child left behind is all about tests not grades.. grades don't count. Kids must score 5% better on the test than the previous years students. So it doesn't compare the same students and expect them to improve. They expect that I can prove I'm a good teacher by making each class do better than the class before it ( even though they are totally different kids with totally different abilities and skills)and if my kids score 100% then next year the new kids better score 105% ( even though that's not possible) or I'm a bad teacher and should be transferred or fired.
Ok not ranting anymore( just quietly , bitterly seething)

Yeah, my weekend can't get here fast enough. I am going to a 7/7/7 (Lucky Sevens) Party at Harley's Tavern VI ( www.tavernvi.com) this weekend, and taking the boys and my 76th bud Zephyr with me. It should be a lot of fun.

Since no candidate with my personal ideals (green party/libertarian/oh gods wouldn't socialism be nice for certain things) has a chance, Obama will most likely get my vote. IT probably won't matter much, seeing as Georgia is a f*cking red state through and through, but I can still try.

Ahh! Now I see what all the bitterness is about and I can totally sympathise.

In the UK we have a very similar scheme known as 'Every Child Matters' which is a laugh as originally it was intended to get us to treat each student as an individual but has somehow morphed into "Make sure they all get the same grades, regardless of any differences in ability or effort". Really it should be "Every statistic matters". I had to paste a phoney smile on my face when the principal was boasting about our 95.5% pass rate today, knowing what's been going on behind the scenes.

(By the way, I DO have it in writing that I'm supposed to make up grades for a couple. At least I've been allowed to give them a bare pass rather than a distinction!)

Am I the only one who think they really missed a bet releasing Harry Potter Seven this weekend?

I mean, not that it won't sell anyway, it just would have been cool.

Yeah, Colorado is pretty red, too, though I think we were officially added as a 'swing state' not that long ago. If the incredibly maddening conversations I've had with more than a few people in my age range is any indication, there are a lot of people here either tossing their vote away (I like the green party, too, but come ON!) or not voting at all. I'll be talking myself hoarse trying to get my peers to vote next year, I expect.

*edit* Hi Emma! Wow, wouldn't it be nice if every child did actually matter and could be treated like they had an individual learning style? Yeah, that would be pretty great. Would also be pretty great if there were actually enough teachers and money going to school to pull that off. Yep. Would sure be great.

I think teachers are the most underpaid profession on the planet. The ones who really care, doubly so. Law enforcement would be a close second in that category, I think that if they got paid better then people who aren't such douchebags would hold those jobs.
