SMILEMON

I'm not much of a die hard fan, but I have a story about this series. I first saw Firefly at a camp here in Alaska in 2005. A research academy, smart kids at smart camp (they didn't cut our minds open thank god).

It caught my attention because I was into a palm game called space trader. For those of you not familiar with the game, I suggest you buy a palm and download it. My favorite ship in the game was the simple firefly. (I have no proof that it is based off of firefly, but its a good bet.) It had long range (17 parsecs), strong shields, would hold a good crew, and was a great smuggler. Within 3 trips the police would be after me, murder, resisting arrest, plundering, running contraband goods. Ok so I was more of a Niska than Mal, but it was fun anyway.

I started watching the series, one show a night, for 8 days, I enjoyed it, but I never did pick up the box set and finish the other episodes. I saw the ad in Wired about the show getting canceled and the fans standing up for it, but I still never got around to watching the last episodes.

It wasn't until 2 weeks ago, I was getting ready for a 2 day plane trip, so I picked up all the episodes, I admit I did rip them off line, but that was because I couldn't buy the series in time for the flight. I'm planning on buying the series soon enough.

I finished the series tonight, I didn't watch them in the order the were supposed to be in, but I pieced it together in my mind and it makes much more sense the way it was intended to be, I read most series out of order anyway, In a show like this its not about the plot, its the characters that matter.

But I'm not here to talk about the show. I'm here to say that I'm going back to the camp where I first saw Firefly, I will be taking a film making class, 10 days, intensive. Someday I hope to be writing shows as imaginative as this.

This show has inspired me.

I doubt I'll stick around and chat, I like forums, and I'll probably check in on you guys every once and a while, see whats up, see if there is any progress on getting the series going.

Till then, keep flying.

P.S If anyone knows where to get a backing track for The Ballad of Serenity I would be interested in learning the guitar part.

MAGDALENA

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

Smilemom! You might just get hooked - this is the first forum I ever found that felt right - and I tried to get into the Harry Potter forums with real dedication - just never connected! I love being a browncoat and it's so shiny to hear people's stories! Yours is yet another wonderful case of the characters being real enough to relate to and love, I cannot believe how my life has changed course through this show and the friends I have made on this forum - I am about to head to the USA next month to meet friends from here and share our love of the 'verse at Dragon*Con - my first ever Sci Fi convention.

I hope you drop by often! We love getting to know new folks! I like the sound of the game you were playing too!

Thanks for sharing!

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site Smilemon. Glad to have you here. Make yourself at home.

I'm glad to hear you'll be picking up the series on dvd. Be sure to pick up the movie "Serenity" as well as it picks up 6 months or so after the last episode of the series "Objects in Space" and continues the story.

Help us spread the word. Tell all your friends about Firefly and Serenity. We can use all the new fans we can get.
