Yes, this is one of those stupid schoolboy debates.

Who would win?

How would it go?

When/Where/Why would it happen? (I think this is very important as while Jayne may be the stronger, in Ariel, Mal won.)

Would there be space monkeys?

Mal. Brains over brawn wins every time.

Jaynes throws a punch Mal dodges. Jayne pulls his weapon, (heh heh!), Mal says something witty to distract him and then kicks him in the .... well you get the picture.

Yeah. Stitch Hessian thought so too.

It all goes down to situation. If it is a fair fight, or if Jayne starts it, I would have to go for brawn, and Jayne.

For some reason I doubt Mal would fight fair. (He may have talked about his code to Simon - but would he do the same for Jayne?)

I would actually have to say it depends on what they're fighting over. If it was something Mal truly believed in, no power in the 'verse could stop him. However, if it was "oh hey, let's fight for no reason!" Jayne would so win. It's Mal's willingness to fight for what he believes in that makes him stronger than anybody. Without that, he's not weak by any means, but weak enough for Jayne to win.

Malcolm would win. Jayne is good to have around in a bar brawl but Mal has been combat trained. And besides IMO Jayne is a little fearful of Mal. Jayne has had several opportunities to take on Mal and become Serenity’s captain but Malcolm is way smarter than that big brut. Who would stick around and follow that caveman anyway? They all know how Jayne is. Jayne is great to have in a fight next to you but if he were ever to take over the ship I’m afraid the transport would soon be down to a crew of ONE.

Jayne: OK Mal, lets fight.

They square up.

Mal: Hey Jayne, isn't that Inara over their with the Councilor.

Jayne: Where!

Mal's Fist: *POW*

Jayne: [On his backside on the floor holding his bloody nose] Mal you low down dirty deceiver.

heh :)

As for scenario I would say if/when Jayne tries to turn on Mal.

So, it would be a fight to the death. Naturally.

If weapons aren't involved, I would place my bets with Jayne.

He too is a survivor.

On the other hand Mal does not know when to give up. When to stay dead.

Mal.

Raw power wise in a gunfight, fistfight, or melee Jayne would be the stronger but go head first into it. The thing is Mal would easily outsmart, have a better technique, and out flank him.

Mal would win if it were over principle.

Even if Jayne won, he'd have Zoe right behind him, locked and cocked.

Zoe wins.

Everyone knows it ain't that hard to beat up Mal.

Then again, Jayne did get knocked out by a 90lb girl...

Gotta go with Freebrowncoat: Zoe.

It'd be an interesting day now, wouldn't it? :)

If we're talking to the death, I think that Mal would win, if only because Mal knows that Jayne would kill him, whereas Jayne would (mistakenly) believe that Mal would have mercy.

*makes a mental note not to mess with Citizen's grandma*

They may think their sins are original, but for the most part they are petty and repetitive.

I seem to remember hearing that there was once a boxing match where something like that actually happened...
