You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Mercury went direct last night. Maybe things will be less scrambled. I hope. Retrograde has actually always been pretty good for me. Or at least not as bad as for some people. I might be growing out of that, though. Or maybe it was just a bad retrograde for me. I've occasionally had those.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

I is happy Zero! Welcome to the world of the camera companion!! You will be hooked in no time!!

Mercury is retro? Why? and how? I guess things have been kind of kaphooey for lots of us lately and that has made me pretty sad all round! I do so hope that this is about to do an about face!

Oh Rosie! I have done the working in fast food!! Lost a lot of weight in that job!! Worked in a fish and chip place too for a while - couldn't get the smell of oil and fish out of my hair and clothes for weeks, but if was bearable!! I love, love, love being a nanny - but it's a calling! I have worked full time as a check-out-chick at the local supermarket for 6 months - got offered 2 promotions in that time but left to return to college! (sound familiar Mei Mei?) worked in a Stationary shop - I still get high on the smell of clean, new, fresh reams of paper too! I would just love to work in a book shop!! I have worked in photographics retail, as well as children's shoe fitting, baby wear, kids wear, teen wear, nursery furniture, I have worked as an actor in a children's theatre - very interesting experience that one!! I even worked with Barney the dinosaur once... that's the 'never again' job for me!!!

I am picking up as much babysitting as I can right now - it has it's good days and it's bad... and I am doing some incredibly boring scanning work for one of my bosses - basically passing medical records through a scanner, checking they scanned correctly and then saving them to the hard drive... hours and hours at a time... Oy!

So how goes things in here? I think after that I need a few shots of Baileys and Jameson's!!

I hope to be around a little bit more from this weekend! I am keeping my fingers crossed for everone and sending positive vibes from Australia!! (Oh and to Sth Australia too Nico!!)

Let's see, It's 4:06 AM, and I am babysitting.

I second the recommendation to try temping PR. It worked for me for years. The best thing about being a temp is that it is more flexible. If you really hate the place you can walk out and try somewhere new. I had some really interesting temp jobs, working for the police, the prison, a casino, and even being a scripted agent for the post office (got a lot of secret identities!)

Sorry about the job PR, it's always nice to have options whether you would have accepted it or not. I can't recommends temping from personal experience as never done it personally but know plenty who have and it has worked will for them.

Hello Gee! Is it a dull grey day where you are too?

I've been online flat hunting this morning (should have been working but really not in the mood and there's that long summer stretched out ahead of me!) because it is getting increasingly difficult to live with parents (and frankly, at nearly 29 it's a bit embarrassing). It's all very difficult because my mother and I are having nasty fights but when I say I should move out she gets all upset and offended. Ah well, will deal with it somehow.

*stretches lazily*

Good Morning, all.

*sips The Good Stuff*

PR, I'm of the same mind as gee. I know several people who have temped and done very well. They could place you in an office / receptionist setting that could be just right, and those jobs typically pay $10-12/hr.

But cheer up, PR. Our unemployment Karma is starting to turn around.

I are employed.

I will be starting Monday as the Sales Assistant to a Mechanical Engineer. He plans the HVAC systems for new buildings, and I do everything else. Basically, I got the job because it is exactly what I was doing for the furniture farm. I just have to take "Italian Leather Couch" out of my brain and replace it with "Trane Air Conditioning Unit" costing $100K.
Luckily, I did not get to the point where I had to accept a job that paid less money than I was previously making.
And...I get to go pee in a cup today. Huzzah!

Thanks to everyone for their amazing support over the last month. I truly, truly appreciate the support both in the threads, and in my inbox.

As of Monday, my posting ability will be severely curtailed, at least for the time being. In general, starting a new job and farting around on the Interwebs don't go together. But my inbox is open 24/7. *hugs to you all*

edit: *waves above to Emma*
Yay to you for getting a flat of your own!

Hey Emma, Mavs!

It is indeed overcast and grey today and have spent so long on the phone today I am thinking of having it surgically attached.

Sympathetic to your flat hunting Emma and wish you good luck. I can't cope living with my folks despite having very good relationship with them but the moment I'm through the door mum forgets I'm 27 and starts trying to check my day like she did when I was twelve and me and my old man just fight like two dogs over territory. If your looking to rent then make sure you go through a good letting agent of if buying make sure you have a solicitor you can trust, believe me it is worth paying a little more for a decent service.

As for Mavs, congratulations on the new job. Hurrah, the browncoat employment woes are on the turn.

Drinks for everyone to celebrate!

*looks round and notices absence of bar staff*

Ok, so what does everyone want? I'll be mother.

I plumb forgot about working at Sbarro's and Hallmark!! I did a semester break "class" of children's theater. It was a blast!! Did summer theater once too. Three shows in rotating rep. Tear down and setup each night, go party, get to bed by 3 am. Wake up by noon and go do the next show that evening. It was quite the good time.

Ah, the carefree days of youth when I had no responsibility and very few bills.
Still wouldn't trade in the hubs and kidlet for them, but D*Con can be a little trip down memory lane.

Buying?! Ha! Not this century! I'll probably end up flat-sharing since I'm broke. Beacuse that worked out so well for me last time (shudders at the ugly memories!).

Congrats about the job Mavs! Welcome back to the world of gainful employment where you finally can afford to buy things but never have the time or energy to go shopping!

I assume that you have to pee in a cup for medical check reasons. Otherwise I would question their hiring policies.

Thanks, Emma. I live just outside of Washington DC - and I told friends on another board I look forward to joining my fellow Washingtonians in their quest for conspicuous consumption - affording 93 octane gas again and buying ridiculously expensive face cream, using it once, and abandoning it for another. (Actually, it is ridiculously expensive shampoo, but you get the idea)

(And yes, the pee in a cup is for a drug test...)

Howdy all. Got a lot of crap going on this week so I might not have time to pop in much.

We are installing a new IP Phone System, launching a new VoIP Service, my Boss is resigning (bastage won't take me with him!), lighting up 5 new fiber customers... and the list goes on and on!

On the bright side, I go on vacation on friday. Although we are already staying at the cabin, I will actually get to take a whole week off this year!!!!!

Late,

I. Have. Signed. Up. With. Four. Temp. Agencies.

I'm really tired of everyone telling me I should really sign up with an employment agency or a temp agency because those places ain't finding me !!!!!!!

*deep breaths* Anyway. Like I said, I'm gonna put in an application with Subway today. For our overseas friends, it's not greasy nasty fast food, it's pretty decent. I would love to work at a bookstore and have applied more than a few times, but they never need people. I have applied at grocery stores, retail stores, banks... any place I think I could stand to work and a few places I'm not so sure about.
I really am doing everything I can. Just because it's not working doesn't make it untrue.

notgonnacrynotgonnacrynotgonnacry...

*deep breaths*

I'm very happy for you, Mav, and best of luck with the shiny new job.

Oh dear, I'm sorry you're so stressed, PR. I really didn't mean to add to your stress. I know all about how annoying 'helpful' suggestions are when you're doing everything you can think of and things are still not happening.

As for Subway, we do have them over on this side of the pond and I did work there for a while (that was the late night job that I mentioned a while back that I had in my final year of Uni). WONDERFUL sandwhiches! Plus as an employee you got to eat there free (but not all you could eat or they would have gone out of business!).

I still go to Subway for lunch whenever I can manage it as I love the food, but the smell does tend to trigger post-traumatic stress disorder for me! It was the 2am crowd that really got me down. Coming out of the clubs completely wated and trying to buy a sandwich with a shiney new penny. When I tried to go through the whole schpiel about "What kind of bread, fillings, dressing, salad...etc do you want" they would just look at me in a blank and crosseyed way and sway. Usually they would dump a handful of coins on the counter and keep slurring "Wanna sanditch" at me until I gave them some random thing between two slices of bread to make them shut up!

Ah the memories!

Sorry. Turned into a bit of a rant there. At least I cut it off before getting onto the horror that was cleaning the bathrooms at closing time....

Hehe, I wasn't sure Subway had gone trans-Atlantic. And yours are open really late! Wow. I think they close at around ten here. There could be cities where they're open late, and there was one New Years where they stayed open.
Free eats? As Bill and Ted would say: Excellent!

And did you ever tip your waitress 5p (or 5 cents) and ask in a leering tone what 'extras' you got for that?! What about having meatball fights across the restaurant? No, I firmly believe that no Browncoat could possibly be as bad as Bristol students!

I would never offer a tip of 5p for anything. Now for £10 Sterling I might inquire if your smile was for me...
