Last thread was waaaaaaay too long to be allowed. Last one here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=29611

Question: does anyone here think I should revive the Forsaken?

Yeah, I know they pop up, but the titles have been a bit blah, and I had an idea, so I was just wondering if anyone wanted a new one. But if not I'm okay with having some s'mores in here...

Same here!

Well I'm going to back up MsG here (and not just because she was so sweet about my forthcoming performance review). I think that Snape will turn out to be a hero. He's a complex character!

In case anyone has not read Half Blood Prince yet:

Select to view spoiler:

Dumbledore was clearly fatally poisoned at the end of the book and asking a reluctant Snape to put him out of his misery, fully aware of the oath Snape was under. At least that's my opinion!

Morning guys

already been x-rayed today, waiting for my super powers to emerge after the radiation poisoning!

Nice idea Emma but I'm not so sure, could be an interesting twist and a nice way to flummox those like me who went ah ha, Snape is evil but not sure. Whatever the outcome he is one of my favourite characters and we shall see. I just like the fact that he is complex and not just carbon cut out, always nice when an author knows why someone is how they are, even if they don't reveal it all as this give a character depth, which you would think all authors would do but by God there is some tripe around.

Anyway, back to work!

You're not kidding about the cold weather Nico - it's been as low as 5c this afternoon... and my silly little River came out without her jacket on... what am I going to do?

Butterbeer!! Yum!! I will partake of some please Mei Mei then I will have my usual Bailey's on icecream and slowly relax into a state of mellowness!

How are you feeling this morning Penguin? I have a slightly less sore throat and a little more voice today... I think...

Emma -

Select to view spoiler:

I don't think that's the reason but I do agree with the initial fact of what state he was in (ie: poisoned and in some pain/discomfort)... I believe he insisted that Snape do it for two reasons... to make the death eaters/Voldemort believe that Snape was 100% their man (remember Bellatrix was suspicious until he took the unbreakable vow) and to ensure Snape keep the vow rather than Draco, thereby allowing Draco's hands to be 'blood free'. I believe, like you, that Snape is good, and I believe that the message about us making our own choices and it not being down to destiny alone (that Harry learned in the 2nd book) will apply to Draco, and he will come through on the correct side in the end as well! So - what do you all think of that theory??

Oh and Mei Mei? Little Aussie hero-brother? Get a room!

Oh goodness! Surely not for the digestion problems. What were they looking for? Did they find it?

What kind of superpower are you looking forward to? It's always very revealing to ask that!

I'm the wet drowned rat now. Came dressed for summer this morning and got caught in another downpour (or possibly the same one that got you and is moving across the country!). Problem is that my white skirt is apparently see-through when wet. And I'm wearing blue pants. How embarrasing! Didn't give the right impression when I was taking interviews for prospective students.

Hey Emma, Magda

yes it's still the digestion problem and no they don't know what they are looking for! X-ray today, more blood tests tomorrow (not going to have much left at this rate!), abdomen ultra-sound (I think if I was pregnant I'd be showing by now and not loosing weight but I'm sure they know this!) and in the middle of sorting out an appointment to see a gastroenterologist so I think we are now going for the scatter gun approach.

As for superpower, I think some kind of healing thing coupled with limited ability to see the future, wouldn't want to know exactly what was happening but enough to get ahead of the game and fix things without falling into the whole good v evil thing!

As for your skirt problem, erm... oh dear not really qualified to offer up sympathy which I do and to state that it is repeated thunderstorms here, five mins ago was loud thunder and rain coming down in stair rods and bow blue sky and sunshine again. Did I hear someone say global warming.

And finally, Harry Potter, I think you guys are making me worse, all these interesting theories and I won't know until Saturday morning when the post man comes and even then don't thing the house DIY and my other half/da will let me just sit and read the thing grrr.

Can I add patience to my superpower list?

Sorry to hear about the gut issue... My best friend has problems and has had all those tests and more... not fun! Hope those superpowers kick in soon though! Mine never did...

Hello Emma, sorry to hear about the skirt issue...! And the rain - we had a thunderstorm and a downpour with hail in it today - so it was 5c when the kids came out of school this afternoon...!!! That's cold for Melbourne!!

Well, I have heard those theories before, and I suppose they're buyable. However, I will not be convinced unless the bastard dies for Harry.
So like I've said, either way he's gotta die.
He's a complex character, he's a good character from that standpoint, but I still dislike him a lot.
Anyway! Bawls, please? I was up a little late.
(btw, we have one jie jie, and Gee I think what you're dealing with is 'climate change' which isn't neccessarily going to warm things up, and Emma, at least you were wearing pants! ;)

mornin' drinkers.

Since we're making Harry Potter predictions, here's how I feel:

Select to view spoiler:

I don't think that Snape is evil, I think we will see in the end that Dumbledore was justified in having faith in him all these years at Hogwarts. I don't think he will die either, though there is a good chance of it, as it is likely he owes Harry a life-debt, just like Peter Pettigrew. Also, I don't think Dumbledore is completely dead, as there are lots of signs to show that it may not be true (the connection he has with Fawkes, the existence of Horcruxes, etc).

Really looking forward to the book. We were sitting and talking with someone at a party Friday night, and someone just blurted out what happens at the end of book 6. One girl turned and looked at him in horror, as she hasn't read that far yet. Whoops.

Select to view spoiler:

I just can't see Snape as good, I think that he genuinely did kill Dumbledore and that JK did this to prove that everyone makes mistakes and it is this that is crucial to Harry understanding that he has to stand up on his own. Also, I think the only way of chasing immortality is goin to be creating Horcrux and like the drinking of unicorn's blood, there is a terrible price to pay, which kinda fits into the over all ethos of the books. The 7th book has the capacity to be really dark if she choses to take it there although I don't think she will. I would also be upset if she brings back Dumbledore as I don't mind admiting that, as I tend to get caught up in any book I read, I have cried every time I have read the funeral chapter and would feel somewhat cheated I guess if he was brought back. Then again that's what you get for bringing your own issues to a novel. I'll stop now

Well, dark being relative, I'm sure it'll be as dark as, or slightly darker then, it's immediate predecessor. I'm undecided as to whether I consider that 'dark'.

As for my Mum's theory on Harry Potter:

Select to view spoiler:

She thinks that Harry has to die as he will be the final horcrux, made so when Voldie resolidified himself, and so Harry will have to make the final sacrifice in order to take him down. I think this makes a certain amount of sense but it would be a real downer!

As for your mum's theory, I have a feeling that she is along the right lines but we will have to see as not sure that JK will actually kill Harry having invested so much into his relationship with Ginny although that could be just to add poignancy to another death (I'm not buying the whole just because Harry stops going out with her that Voldemort is not going to go at Harry through her, it's stil too obvious a route and Malfoy is bound to have said something under duress), see I think it could be a really bleak book if she wanted, think it will be dark as PR said but it could probably be a lot worse

I'm not positive about the rest of the Weasleys (I'd almost like to see Percy wacked, but I thik he'll survive to be the world's biggest prat) but come now, it's Ron.

Can you imagine lusting after a character you created? I mean, I guess it's probably been done, but not when that character started out a kid. God, I hope...
Also, Hermione isn't the hero, and while she helps Harry out a lot, she's not just far better than him at everything, which are other symptoms of Mary Sue Syndrom.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Erm. I've created lust-worthy characters--not quite the same thing--and, well, when you get down to it, isn't that what some sexual fantasies actually are: made up people?

Good point. Withdrawn.

From what I've seen in interviews she views Harry as her child. It's why I don't think she will kill him. If she cried for days after killing Sirius because she felt so awful for taking him away from Harry I just don't think she has it in her to kill him...
Oh I can't wait for Saturday...squeeee

Sirius is DEAD????? Wait, who's Sirius? Um, yes, I am horribly behind in both watching and reading HP. And am I detecting a sirius lack of spoilerage? I mean yeah, there's surplus of it, too but Emma, tsk tsk tsk, you quoted a spoiler which unspoils it. (Can that be a bad thing? I wish I could unspoil food, children, relationships...)

I'm relying on you, MSG, to tell me the spoilers in that book, so that anybody that annoys the hell out of me to tell me that they are reading the book I can tell them the equivalent of "Darth was Luke's father". Heh. Not that I dislike that universe, but I'm just tired of the people around me (mainly in RL) talking about the book.

I just want to be loud and spoilery. Have we got a deal? No? Well, fine. Then I'll just turn the other cheek.

(If you haven't guessed - I'm not a part of the Harry Potter craze. Not that I hold anything at all against those that are. And I certainly wouldn't be a spoiler. )

hehe. My brother waits for me to finish it so he can find out who dies so he can taunt my dad for days.

It's quite funny.
