Every Sunday we gather in the AIM room Firefly and thumb our noses at the special hell while watching episodes together.

We start at about 18:00 GMT - you can find the time in your city at http://xrl.us/tgxz

Software: If you're running on GNU/Linux or Windows you can try the gaim client at http://gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php and if you're running MacOS try iChat or http://www.adiumx.com

Account: If you don't have an AIM account yet you can get one at http://www.aim.com by clicking on the "Don't have a screen name? Get one FREE" link.

Invite yourself to the Firefly room, or if you're struggling just send a message to ImJacksNickname or MrsKBorg asking for an invite.

If you're using gaim: go to the "Buddy List" window, "Buddies", "Join a chat...", put Firefly in the room input box, and click the "Join" button.

If you're using AOL's AIM client: go to the "Buddy List" window, select "People", select "Send Chat Ivitation", in the "screen names to invite" field put your screen name as well as any friends you'd like to invite, in the "Chat room" field type Firefly

If you don't have your DVDs or tapes handy, feel free to join us anyway for a chat.

After a proposal by Shiny http://fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=5409#66949 that flans join an instant message room and watch episodes together, we had our very first vshin on. We've been going strong for 2 years, and Sunday's vshin will be the start of year 3. The threads:

You can also use Trillian http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/downloads/ . I used to use it, a year or so back, because:
a) it allows me to log on to all my messenger accounts at once, if I so choose,
b) it has a larger limit (perhaps "un-") on group size than the 200 imposed by AIM,
c) I thought it looked cooler.
But it had a major drawback: I couldn't invite anyone into the AIM Firefly room -- not even myself; I had to email someone for an invitation. I went back to AIM about a year ago, and v6.0 takes care of c), & sorta b). It now lets me have more than 200 IDs in my Firefly group, but tells me that's over limit & it may not work properly (no probs so far, KOW).

Feel free to IM me (YT13 on AIM), if you can't get in.

If you own a set of the DVDs, but like to loan them out, otherwise find it inconvenient to have the discs available for Virtual Shindigs, or are just getting tired of wearing out sets (3 & counting), why not rip 'em? May I suggest DVDshrink http://www.dvdshrink.org/where.html ? The DVDs are 30GB, un(further)compressed.

We've now been going strong for 3 years, and Sunday 2007 June 03's VShin will be the start of year 4.

For our (the Virtual Shindigs) third anniversary, we've decided to start the full series, in order. Join us next week, if you can, or the week after. But in any case . . .

Sunday, 2007 June 10, I had to leave less than an hour after the start of the VS, so DJ & I just logged on, and quickly agreed on & watched Train Job. I think someone else was watching with us.

Today, Sunday, 2007 June 17, was more relaxed. DarkJester & I, with LemmingOnaDetour & another keeping us company, watched Bushwhacked. We'd finally come to the point @which the different orders began to diverge (it doesn't make much of a difference before B'whacked), and we chose Fibonacci Sequence order.

I thought I'd posted something about that order a year or two ago, but can't find it now. I'll post it later.

Anyway, that meant next up was Safe. DJ & I watched it; I think LemOnaDe had left by that time. After that, Missy joined in, and the three of us watched Outa Gas. A good time was had by all.

Next up (next Sunday) will be Heart o' Gold, with Our Mrs Reynolds on deck.

Sunday, 2007 June 24, DarkJester & I watched Heart o' Gold, before other commitments intruded ("1408" for him & his son, helping a friend hang drywall for me). Next up (next Sunday) is Our Mrs Reynolds, with Shindig on deck.

Sunday, 2007 July 1, the room maxed at 7. Ebo met Sean Maher (read all about it http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=29459 ), thought "It was the best day ever", and NinjaKat & I decided that was a sign from god we were meant to watch Jaynestown (Ebo, as usual, didn't have her discs). Less than a minute in, we were joined by WrmyWorm; oh, ya, all this time LemOnaDe was in the room, sitting quietly in a corner. DarkJester joined us just before the end of Jaynestown, and stayed to watch Our Mrs Reynolds, and Shindig. MrsKB came in not long after we'd started OMR, but couldn't get her DVD drive to play, so she just stayed to keep us comp'ny.

This is definitely more fun with more folk. Next Sunday: War Stories, with Objects In Space on deck.
