How I met summer glau this week / aka my best day ever

i know, i know, this is identical to my blog- but i figure, not a lot of folk read those, and this seemed news-worthy. plus, i was excited. (if these are crappy reasons, someone let me know and i'll kaboom one of 'em).

I’m starting to think I have actual magic powers. Or maybe wish-granting plank. Point is, this just doesn’t happen on one’s ordinary, run-of-the-mill luck. Atleast, not to me.

Ok, so I know, plenty of you folk have met cast members, but this still feels tell-worthy because a) random circumstances, not at a convention b) the- the randomness of it! And- gah! Y’know? Ok, so I’ve alienated half of you- bear with me, im just excited is all.

So, background: I was in LA (from last Tuesday ‘till today, Sunday) to visit an uncle.

On Thursday we went to the Universal park where, oh yes, there was the mule. I seem to recall someone posted pics a while back, but it’s moved since then, so I’ll post mine in a bit.

Ok, so we get back from the park, I’m pretty much in a state of joy and contentment, perfectly willing to endure the evening’s entertainment- a classical music concert in the Hollywood bowl, something I had no particular interest in.

On the way up to the bowl, my dad asks me which of the cast I’d want to see, and I say Summer, without hesitation.

So were at the bowl, our seats are way up at the top and at the far left side. So I’m looking around, and- say, that woman looks awefully like summer…. Nah, it can’t be. But wait, we are in Hollywood and all… and she lives in, what, Burbank?

So of course, I spend the first half of the concert switching back and forth between two lines of thought:
1) Is It Her? (accompanied of course by both frequent glances over my shoulder, and much would-be ‘logical thinking’; i.e., is it reasonable that she would be here, would summer be wearing those cloths, would summer have her hair like that, etc)

2) What Would Happen If It Was? Which of course I came up with no reasonable answers to, as most thoughtpaths quickly digressed into fantasy-relm… ahhh, fantasy relm…

aaaanyway, at intermission, my dad, to my horror, goes to find out by taking a quick walk past her general area; he later tells me that he DIDN’T think it was her. but, before he gets back, SHE gets up to go to the bathroom, and walks RIGHT by- not more then a foot or two away.

So I say: s-summer?

She turns: yes?

At which point my brain pretty much shut down to the “fire bad. Tree pretty. Summer pretty” level;

fortunately, no one told my mouth, which had the presence of mind to ask if maybe I could have a picture? She says yes, I go and fumble in my mom’s purse for the camera; when I’ve got it, she has come back up the steps to stand at the top of our set of seats.

Sooo, I go to take it, and she says something like “don’t you want to be in the picture with me?”

<=== I mean, how ‘bout that!?!?! Just offeren’ herself up like that. So I go stand next to her… and she takes a step closer, and puts her arm around me

ladys and menfolk, I’ve just died of pure and overwhelming joy. I went to cloud nine and didn’t come back till- actually, I’ still there, we’ll see if I ever get down.

So my dad gets off a couple pictures, before she-

-stays to chat. I mean, not all intermission or anything (she was on the way to the bathroom), but a good couple of minutes. Asked my name and where I was from and all (oh! Oh! And she said she liked my name! Ok, so maybe she tells everyone that… but probably not! Shiny, no?).
and we talk a bit about what she’s got commin up. Best 5 or 10 minutes of my life.

y’know how everyone comes back from conventions talking about how nice summer is? It’s the case; she’s just GREAT. I mean, c’mon, how many actresses would so willingly take a picture with you and stay around to chat and all? She’s simply the very best.

Oh, yes, and after she went away and then back up to her seat, I realized that if I wanted and autograph, now was the time; so up I go to her seat, and a few minutes later back down I come with a new prized possession- a shiny little note with my name and everything.

Just think about it; I go to LA for 4 days (not counting flying in and out), and I just happen to run into the person who is absolutely my number one top choice of people I want to see. WHAT are the chances?

Wow, nice! Yeah, I've never met her (curse south texas!) but I hear she's really nice - good to know she really IS.

Wow - that is way shiny - there really is something special about her isn't there? Well there's something special about all our BDHs I guess - but thank you so much for sharing your story and I, for one, think that if Penguin can be forgiven for starting a thread just coz I phoned him one day - you are most definitely acting appropriately when you post a thread all about Summer!!!

And you're right - I rarely get online long enough to read people's blogs here!! So thanks again!!

Pretty amazing story I would never have believed, but the pictures are proof of the truth. Amazing! Like hitting the Lotto! What did you talk to her about for the 5-10 minutes? Firefly? 4400? Terminator? the Weather?...pls tell.

Who was she with? Did any other folks crowd around once her "celebrity" was revealed? I had a simialr experience 2 weeks ago at my usual waterin' hole...'cept it wasn't someone like Summer regrettably, it was the lady on TV who says " With Life Alert You Can Live Alone Without Being Alone". But she denied she was that woman, and I just said sorry, my mistake.

talked mostly 'bout the 4400 and SCC. she said she's off to shoot more scc after comic con.
not 100% sure about who she was with, there was a group-ish sort of thing, but it was unclear if she was w/ them, or just one other woman (there was also an ambiguous comment that MAY have suggest that said woman was a sister- but quite possibly not, too. dunno, wasn't really very focused on things-not-summer at the time.)

darkfly, best of luck! let us know if The Increadibly Unlikely But Still Possible should occur!

also: does anyone know at what address is can write to her? summer-glau.net seems to suggest writing care of her agent; is this infact the approved way? does anyone know?
and another thing: it says one should include a self-addressed envelope if requesting an autograph, which i am NOT; so, should i not have an envelope? on the one hand, it seems like it would be helpful to have one in there, save her some trouble if it's still true that she answers all her fan-mail; on the OTHER hand, its kinda forcing, y'know? so, thoughts?
