HERO Part Two: Add the power of your voice to the world's most important public art project!

HERO Part Two speaks with the voices of the public. The following are important links, followed by ideas to help give strength to this life-altering concept. If we can change the way people think, we can change the world.

HERO Blog:
http://supersecretthingy.blogspot.com/
(Click on the blue "# posts" next to "view all" to leave a comment. Be sure to click "other" before you submit if you want to enter your identity. Otherwise it will be posted as anonymous.)
This blog will be an historical document, capturing people's feelings and dreams about heroes and the part they play in our lives. It will become an integral part of the project, as Martin cycles the ideas and returns them to the public arena.

HCC (HERO Command Centre):
http://www.myspace.com/ninjaofnathannation
This is the NathanNation MySpace page created to be a multi-media support site for HERO. It posts banners, wallpapers and buttons to aid in promoting the project. It is also a source for HERO-related press.

Martin Firrell’s MySpace page:
http://www.myspace.com/martinfirrell

Martin Firrell’s Wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Firrell
(Use this as an additional reference resource for anyone wondering who Martin Firrell is, especially the art press outside of the UK.)

Some people Martin would particularly like to hear from are:

· Males
· People in the Armed Forces (“…not to question or disrespect, I hasten to add, but to hear what it actually feels like to try to be heroic in a conflict situation - the human and personal face of that, rather than the political or rhetorical angle.” – Martin Firrell)
· People in countries all over the world

Please try to encourage these demographics to voice their thoughts on what being a hero means to them at the HERO blog.

An exciting place to reach many people in your community is by posting in your local newspaper’s forums. If they have an entertainment forum, you can start a new topic leading off with Nathan’s involvement. If they have an arts or social forum, make Martin the focus of your letter. (Remember to include his Wikipedia entry for reference, especially outside the UK.) Be sure to send a letter to the Features editor and any columnists that may be interested in picking up on a story about this provocative subject. Once you have composed your basic letter describing the HERO project, this is a very easy way to spread the word and can be extended to newspapers outside your community. Have one letter ready focused on Nathan and one focused on Martin.

Other great places to spread the word

· Parenting forums
· Educators’ forums
· Christian forums such as www.christianforums.com and MOPS International
· Socio/politico sites and magazines such as alternet.org, motherjones.com and Mother Jones magazine, feministing.com, Adbusters magazine, Reason magazine, salon.com, FreeRepublic.com

Let everyone know how they can challenge their conception of heroism and how they can add the power of their voice to the world's most important public art project!

STOWEAWAY

Watching this project unfold has been a profound experience for me.
But today, another dimension was added. While I was watching Nathan's segment, my oldest son (nearly 7 yrs old) walked up and starting listening. He was intrigued because Nathan was speaking of comic books and super heroes. Being an early reader, he was trying to read the comments as they came up. But the sentences disappeared too quickly. So I started reading them out loud for him. Then we had a talk about what it all means.
Now, mind you, we're the kind of family that believes in what Martin Firrell is saying. My boys are being raised as emotional, empathetic creatures. But I think this project is a wonderful means for discussing the very core values of our family. The project isn't even complete and it's already working.
I can't wait to hear more.
