After posting in the wrong place i finally got it right so here you go:

I often wonder if those guys and girls over at
IGN are browncoats or just the type of uninitiated people we want to go see the movie at the theaters.

Today when i was cruising through the IGN site, i thought i'd check the DVD section and right in the headlines stareing me in the face was:
Serenity Collector Edition Review

So i read it and it the type of review you can be proud of, giving the DVD a 9 out of 10

But enough about me here is the review

America loves a winner!

I was under the impression that the Collector's Edition dvd was already out. I went to BestBuy, and they said I had to order it online. Fine. I do that, and then realize it's still due to be released.

Did they change the date or something ? I'm confused.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

They didn't change the date. The only announced date has always been August 21.

Wow...thats a pretty lengthy review. Doesn't surprise me though. Getting good reviews has never been a problem of Firefly or Serenity. Its getting the ratings/box office turn out.

Serenity could be called the ultimate modern western. Although it takes place more than 500 years in the future during a space-traveling era when men have found and terraformed entire planets, its heroes still carry futuristic pistols and live by codes of honor that would make any cowboy proud. It's not an easy configuration to swallow because these are two genres that don't seem to have anything in common - and, in fact, directly contrast one another; perhaps needless to say, spaceships and horses simply don't mix.

I do not get how this idea got started at all. Sci-fi and the western are rather inextricably linked genres dealing as they both do with frontiers and how people adapt to survive them. That science fiction deals with frontiers of the mind as well as the physical frontier more closely associated with the western should fool nobody. Anybody who failed to see the western in Star Trek given the opening monologue, "Space, the final frontier...." should at least have figured out from the movie "Outland" (remake of "High Noon") or "The Road Warrior" (remake of "Shane") that there is a close thematic parallel between the genres.

I had preordered the CE some weeks back, at Deep Discount.com. Yesterday, I received an email from them indicating my copy was just shipped.

As Deep Discount ships US Mail, I am expecting the DVD no later than Saturday or Monday!

You know what. Everytime I read a review like this, I get crazy mad. My heart breaks into tiny little pieces.

Not because of what they write. I mean, they're giving an excellent review.

But because every single time Firefly gets a good review I wonder why, oh why can't the studio bigwigs not realise what they're keeping from us!!! Can't they see these reviews and get their damn fingers out of their collective ears and give us more!!!

It should be so clear. There's a good movie. People love it. Make another one and promote it better. Why is it so damn complicated?

I'm still kinda fuzzy on one thing:

Is it packaged in a collector's tin (a la the Region 4 version)? I mean, I'll still buy it either way. Would just like to know.
