Yes its true.

As a big fan of Serenity and later Firefly, i saw the movie then purchased the series on dvd, i wanted to captain my own firefly but how?
Its easy. You will need the pc game freelancer. Its an older space sim, doesnt need much power and is cheap. There is an enterprising group of "modders" who have been rewriting the core game for years now. You can find a list of all the "mods" on Lancers Reactor.com. Dont worry they have made a "mod manager" that will do all the work for you. Its totally free and the opportunity to role play any way you wish on any of the servers cant be beat. I found the core game "Freelancer" on ebay for $5.00 US brand new :)....The best server i have seen has to be Evolved Ones... www.evolvedones.com... The server is a little empty of players right now but the Administrators are happy to have new players join. If we can get enough new players interested in roleplaying Serenity im am sure they will be glad to help us. There is only the "serenity" freighter at the moment, but who would want to fly anything else?

Do yourself a favor and check out Lancers Reactor and Evolvedones. You wont be sorry.

I would be glad to send in game shots of my firefly to any who ask. Dont mind the guns. You need firepower flying around all the outlying systems. Just reply and i will send as soon as i read.

p.s. Lancersreactor.com has a free trial version of the core game available for download. No controlers needed. The game uses Kb and Mouse.

You could also try out a mod of the simulator called OrbiterSim if you just want to drive Serenity around. Just go to orbitersim.com and download the simulator and then download the modification that lets you control Serenity. It has a steep learning curve, but is pretty fun.

You know, I somehow knew it was going to be Freelancer before I even read the thread XD I've actually just recently got back into Freelancer, but I've lost some interest as well. I've beaten it before, and when stuff gets hard I just get annoyed.

Mods are the only thing keeping the game alive, though. Honestly, it's a GREAT game without mods even, but once it loses its new it becomes merely a "good" game.

This IS one of the best spacesims out there...I'd say THE best _current_ spacesim. It ranks right up there with Freespace 2 in my book (another AWESOME game!)

have you tried the online servers. its a whole different game. the downloadable mods are ok but the server im in now updates daily. new bases, ships, systems and factions all the time. evolvedones even has new random and sticky missions daily. oh you can also build your own bases, mning factories etc. :)

no. disconnects are no frequent. Tak, the main admin who hosts the server is on a trip and has been unable to do a full server reset so they have been a little more frequent.

New players get 15mil starting money. the server knows your Reg number so you will only ever get it once.

be sure to read the forum. it explains about starting money, banking, storage, building factories etc.
