2 Hits and a big miss. Do yourselves a favor and watch Burn Notice. It is by far the best show of the year. Psyche I had never heard of until watching BN; and after catching a few episodes I have laughed my a$$ off. Ignore Flash Boredom it is horrible. There are actually petitions on the Flash boards at scifi.com to have it cancelled. One funny thing was the poster who said Ming the Merciless is more like Ming the Mildly Annoyed.

I like Burn Notice too. I watched it for the second time last night. Smart, sarcastic and witty without being dumbed down.

Hang on, are you saying they have made a TV show of Flash Gordon?

"Flash Gordon" is utterly craptacular. It PAINS me to think that SciFi is investing money and screen time in that abomination, whilst our beloved Firefly drifts ever closer to the Scrap Belt.

I agree. Burn Notice is a great new show. Psych is very funny this year. It seems as though the writing for it is a little different. It is slightly more tongue in cheek this season. And I wasn't very impressed with Flash Gordon either. It is about as good as Painkiller Jane. I watch it, but I don't know why.

Well, at least Sci-Fi Fridays aren't completely wasted. We still have the greatness that is Doctor Who, and I hear that Painkiller Jane is supposed to be decent. But Flash Gordon? I cringe every time I see the commercials for that. Wasn't the movie torture enough?

Ok, Burn Notice is my big gotta see show right now. I've been a fan of Jeffrey Donovan for years. I'm glad Burn Notice seems to be doing better than Touching Evil, his last show with USA. And look! Bruce Campbell!

Psych is also good but I'm not a huge fan. I watch it now and then but it's just not my kind of show. Light fun.

Flash Gordon. You should have seen my dad (who is old enough to remember some of the original Flash Gordon serials) when I told him this was happening. It was worth a laugh. I did give it a shot and was decidedly underwhelmed. I didn't think it was completely horrible (at least the girl seemed clever) but it's not really worth the effort of changing the channel to it. Maybe it will improve. Maybe not.

Ric, count yourself lucky that you were not able to see the new Flash Gordon. The Sci-Fi channel has chosen to invest in a bad show (not a bad premise).

Ming is not Ming. Horrible casting and makeup and costume. Just bad. Flash and Dale weren't miscast, I think both are fine choices for the parts, it's the writing and delivery that suck.

I say skip it. If you happen to get a chance to see it, have a book handy to read when you get bored.

Saw Burn Notice for the second time last night. I love it. The writing is so good.

Especially when Bruce Campbell told the couple he trying to intimidate that he was "Detective Cagney and this is Detective Lacey" indicating Fiona.

It was made all the more funny because Sharon Gless (Detective Cagney from the long running "Cagney and Lacey")is playing Jeffrey Donovan's chain smoking Mom.

How have i never even Heard of this "Burn Notice"??
If it has Bruce Campbell, I'm in. Where and When is it on???

I've seen 1, or 2 episodes of Psych, it was allright, but didn't grab me enough to seek it out.

as for Flash....
I've "seen" both episodes, out of the corner of my eye while surfing... the premise has promise, just needs a better team behind the scenes.
I tried Watching Pain Killer Jane, but got too bored 5 minutes into the pilot, and never looked back.

But Yes, God Bless Sci-Fi For Airing Doctor Who.
now if i only got BBC america....

Optimus, if you can at all afford it, try to get BBCAmerica. They're showing Torchwood (the Doctor Who spin-off) starting September 8th. Maybe it's just the crazy fan-girl talking, but any chance to watch Jack is one not to be missed.

Hey, don't knock the movie. It's some of the best camp sci-fi out there and I'd rather watch that than the 3 new SW's films. At least the kind of camp on the Flash Gordon movie can be enjoyed, as opposed to the stiff (taking ourselves too seriously) camp of SW 1-3. Don't mean to sound nasty, just have to defend one of my favorite 80's sci-fi films. I have to remember to ask for the DVD for Xmas.

But now I'm curious to see what the tv show is like. Will it be coming to Canada? Or can I see it on-line somewhere's? (along with the other two shows)

Oh, and with the mentality (IE: intellegence level) of the suits today you just have to think that Burn Notice, which seems to be popular, will probably be dropped and FG kept on. It seems to be the in thing these days, y'know, keep the crap and throw away the good stuff (I hope not of course, but I'm going from the last 5-10 years of network television here)

It's just I'm so into the Flash Gordon premise. I can't help it. I used to watch the 30's serials on TV early in the morning here in the uk, before I would go to school. Larry "Buster" Crab was Ace. The Sets were Ace, Ming was ace and the way the spaceships flew was brilliant! I have the Purple Death Seasons on DVD and I just love them. Grainy quality and all!

Hey Preaching to the choir sister, i have already seen the series(and made my own dvds, incl. Torchwood Declassified) courtesy of bit torrent,
and the only prob with me getting BBC America, is that i am currently living with my folks, and convincing the old man to upgrade to digital cable, would be nigh on impossible. (the man still listens mostly to am radio, and kinda prefers B&W TV, hell they don't even own a cordless phone! but i ramble now....sorry...)i can only pray that the US airings will lead to a US DVD release.

Must be a browncoat thing, 'cause I feel the same way about all those shows. I was hoping Flash Gordon was going to be interesting: but I don't think I even saw a cool-looking spaceship in the pilot episode. I don't know, maybe it'll be one of those shows that takes a few episodes to get good, but it just sort of bored me (same with Painkiller Jane, come to think. Wasnt' terrible, just not good enough for me to care to watch it again.)

I'm loving Burn Notice, though. I'd been lacking a decent show that I look forward to each week lately, and that's got me hooked. (And bonus points for Bruce Campbell, too.)

I've watched the first 2 episodes of Flash Gordon and I admit it: I'm not all that impressed. However, I'm going to give it a shot and let it find it's footing. The first season Star trek TNG wasn't all that good, yet it got better and went on for 7 seasons. And just think-if people had done that for Firefly we'd be starting season 5 by now (and just might know what Book's past was-sorry, discussion from work the other day). We still have the obligatory character development episodes to go yet before we even see what the actual season plot is going to be about, so I'll give it a year at least.

Burn Notice is on USA (a Universal/NBC cable channel-props to them for Serenity/Serenity CE and hopefully Serenity 2) Thursdays at 10 EDT. It's repeated on the weekend but I'm not sure when. You might want to check a schedule.

I've been enjoying Burn Notice, and The Kill Point. I was also unimpressed with Flash Gordon. I'm just looking forward to season 2 of Torchwood, and Dexter now. I can do with out painkiller jayne too. Very bad. And to think they killed Dresden files to make room for that stuff.

If you've missed, or don't get the right channels for, these shows, keep an eye on TV links.

With all the series that have been canceled, or will soon be coming to an end, I am wondering exactly how sci-fi is going to fill those time slots.

Burn Notice is a good show. Normally I don't go for spy stuff but this show has a great cast and enough humor to set itself apart from typical spy stories.

I'm still giving Flash the benefit of the doubt. However, if things don't improve over the next 3-4 episodes I'll be jumping off that train.

America loves a winner!

Burn Notice rocks! There's not a character on that show I don't like, though Fiona holds my attention the most.

Psyche is one I've yet to check out, though from everything I've heard, it's damn good.

Flash Gordon? No interest what so ever. Hated the original, the comic strip, the movie re-make, ... I don't care how many times they try to update it, I just find it boring and lame.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I adore Burn Notice - my parents and I have only missed one episode thus far. Though it makes me sad that Fi looks anorexic... if anybody ever saw Scent of a Woman, she was the girl that the old guy tangos with, and she looked amazing - not bony.

Burn notice rocks the shit!!... Macgyver+ an Elmore Leonard novel = Burn notice ... Every week during the intro we get to hear Bruce Campbell say "Spys are such whiny little bitches", Awesome.

Psych is hilarious, its one of the few shows that me and my wife acctually watch together. its one of those warm fuzzy shows.

Flash Gordon is a pig of a disaster of a television program. I got into an argument with Coop at a poker shindig last week. he says its fun camp with a serial thrill, I say that I see what they were TRYING to do but it flops.. the best thing about it is the Queen title song, and even thats 25 years old... Oink.

P.S. we played the game ZOMBIES!!! at that shindig...its terrific, run out and get it.

Just discovered Burn Notice myself. Fills my Veronica Mars void. It's my fav new show. In fact, I just stay on USA all the time: Burn Notice, Psych, and Monk. Never watched Psych before, but the last few episodes have gotten me hooked. And I've been a Monk fan from the start.

I couldn't sit through a whole episode of Flash yet. They need dialogue and plot and characters....

AMEN to all that! Still being dependent solely on broadcast TV (and in my neck of the woods that means about 3.5 stations, and none of them USA or SciFi), I have not had the pleasure/displeasure of seeing any of the shows in question (maybe between now and Christmas I can remedy that), but I'm totally down with the early 80s big-screen Flash Gordon. I didn't appreciate it fully when it came out because at the time I still expected sci-fi/superheroes to be treated with some gravity, but over the years it has become one of my personal all-time faves...and IMO Dale (Melody Anderson, now a social worker - funny old world, idn't it?) was HOT. And SWs 1-3 were...NOT.

Edit: Ooh - Topol (Tevye / Hans Zarkov)...I almost forgot Topol...he was HOT, too...

Burn Notice is GREAT, one of my fav's on tv at the moment.

Painkiller Jane is just..meh. Not worth the time IMO. I was DVR'ing them, then noticed at one point I had 4 episodes saved and hadn't watched the show past Episode 3.

Flash Gordon had one of the worst pilot episodes I've seen in quite some time, but the second episode was a little better. I'll give it another week or two.

Until Jericho and BSG start their new seasons, it's pretty much Burn Notice and various Discovery Channel things for me. Robin Hood on BBC is ok, every episode is hit or miss.

Psych is a good one too though I catch it when I can.
