Congratulations Daddy!
Hug the mamma! Heating pad, ice packs, and analgesics are her friends for a while. Tell her I said "welcome to the zipper club" and she may be able to do crunches again in about five years. (Okay, I'm a slow healer and I don't really WANT to do them..) The numbness is normal and will eventually lessen. There is numbness somewhere under all the owie, honest.

Here's to the first of *many* sunrises you will no doubt enjoy... more or less... depends on how much sleep you were hoping for.

Rose, that's the hardcore spelling.

I will look for the Bawls this weekend when I am up there getting Magda, I am sure that somewhere carries it.

Rosie, thanks for the advice, I will pass it along.

Whimsy, I am really looking forward to meeting you at D*C (amongst many others). Make sure you ask me for a beer when you see me (and a hug, if you like).

The heat's kinda bad down here right now, but you know what's worse? The AC broke today.

They are bringing a new one tomorrow, but Ami and the kids are all sleeping at the neighbors' house tonight...

I just want to smash things. Really, actually, I just want things to get better, but that's looking pretty ruttin unlikely.

Are your primary or secondary aged kids? The only place tecahers have their own room is in primarys chool (prep to grade 6). Once you hit high school, teachers ahve to move every lesson like the kids...so any resource you need you prtty much have to carry with you. Even specialty subjects like art, science there will be several rooms you shift between...

PR,
Burn some incense and light a candle to the PTB to shake things loose. Just remember that sending up a prayer to Kali in anger is playing with fire.

Find a calm center and just breathe there for a little while, let all the crap move through and around you. Things happen for a reason, maybe now is not the right time and frustration this instant will lead to something working out better than you'd hoped later on.

HUGS Rose...well you just barely started the path to better things ( new job, going back to school, etc.) it can't change overnight...but it will change and get better. Just takes time is all. I felt that way when I first started teaching ( without training or proper credentials on a conditional certificate) there I was taking classes all night and teaching all day and exhausted and frustrated with no money or anything. I really hated it and wanted to just chuck it all and scream, but it did get better and yours will too sweety!!

Suz- wow I cannot imagine having to shirt all my curriculum( 4 filing cabinets) and books and supplies and everything with me for each class change. Why do they do it that way? How do teachers get a chance to make a welcoming environment or develop creative, complex lessons? In answer to your questions I teach junior high ( equivalent age 12-15 years old both genders) in a fairly rough school ( lots of gangs and violence...opening faculty meeting we had the announcement that over the summer one student was shot and killed in a drive by shooting, one was charged and will likely be convicted of a totally different shooting in which he killed 2 people, and one student committed suicide...not our cheeriest faculty moment, but hey it happens...on the plus side only 8 girls got pregnant last year)
However I really happen to love my job:)

I should have some time tomorrow, as I anticipate a slower than normal day. I hope.

Can I just say...HVAC contractors are the neediest people in the world. And I thought the interior designers at the Furniture Farm were bad. Sheesh.

well, at most schools teachers get two drawers in a filing cabinet at their desk, which is in the staffroom. Any decoration or display of students work in the classrooms must bedone in colaboration with several teachers (and often doesnt happen at high school much - although it depends on the school and the subject area). And these days, most curriculum documents are in digital form as well, I guess....

Sympathies to all the teachers as watching my other half wrestle her new classroom into shape.

It's all effed up, gun control is not always the answer, Canada has a ton more guns than we do and less gun crime but then again they have bears. It's taking the whole guns don't kill people, people do idea, throw in the idea that these weapons used are all illegal, I'm a great big pacifist so don't always 'get' the idea but have no problem with people wanting to shoot at clubs, even assault weapons cause I get that people might want to have a go. It's more to do with just how people can just casually toss away other's lives like it means nothing. It's like the stories of friendly fire incidents caused by a soldiers who haven't cleared their guns properly before attempting to clear them, comes down to respect, for the people round you but everyone is so busy wandering round in their own heads chasing their own desires at the cost of all others that it effs up their perspective and societies. Hmmh, think I need another drink.

I get what you are saying. Taking someone or something else's life is the most selfish thing you can do. Period. (a line from The Shield, I think, but it is still relevant). Here's my outlook on life, and it goes for all sorts of activities, whether certain governments proclaim them to be legal or not: Do No Harm. I don't mean it in the medical sense, as in the Hippocratic Oath, but in general. Everyone should have the freedom to do what they want, provided that those wants don't impede on another person's freedom to do the same. Stealing isn't right, because it infringes on another person's right to their own things. Speeding on the highway is ok, but driving recklessly and endangering others' lives is crossing the line. That sort of thing. I'm rambling, so another movie quotation and I will end it:

Murphy: Do not kill, do not rape, do not steal, these are principles that every man of every faith can embrace.
Connor: These are not polite suggestions, these are codes of behavior and those of you that ignore them will pay the dearest cost.
Murphy: There are varying degrees of evil, we urge you lesser forms of filth not to push the bounds and cross over, into true corruption, into our domain.
Connor: For if you do, one day you will look behind you and you will see we three. And on that day, you will reap it.
Murphy: And we will send you to whatever god you wish.

I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
