THEREALME

I enjoyed the Firefly panels with Ron Glass and Mark Shepard, the Mythbusters panel with Tory, Kari, and Grant, and the Star Trek panel with Gates McFaddon, Brett Spiner, and Jonathan Frakes. I liked the Monty Python skit group. I loved the costume contest (what I saw of it). I loved witnessing my first D*C parade (I slept through last year’s). Dragon*Con TV was funny, as before. I spent far too much money at the dealer’s room(s).

But the real reason I go to these things is to hang out with my online friends with whom I post and chat on this site. Here is a list of those I met. Hopefully, I have not forgotten anyone! If so, prod me!

Present and past crew of the Sereni-Tree: CallMeAth, CallMeSerenity (queen of Jayne hats), Citizen, Cozen, ItsAWash ( ), Jadehand, Lissa (who is better in person than THREE Lissa masks!), Mai, Karel (so join the crew, already!), ThatWeirdGirl, and XanderLHarris / Ash (our very own Shindig Goddess).

Others I met last year at D*C, and met again this year: AnotherFireflyFan, EngineAngel (what a sweetie!), ManWithPez (man of a million costumes), Nevis, RiverIsMyGoddess and “the other” Serenity (not to be confused with CallMeSerenity).

The awesome Southern Ohio Browncoats: Beans the Evil-esque, Emily, KarenKay, Lunakitty, TenthCrewMember, Wiccy, and other SOBs. I must again offer my profound apologies at not immediately recognizing some of you. However, in my defense, I have to say that when a bunch of attractive young women start waving and calling my name, the first thought in my head is usually, “What lucky bastard is behind me?” When I (finally) realize that, yes, these greetings are meant for me, my brain gets overwhelmed and shorts out.

And finally, some wonderful new browncoats that I met this year: Clara (beware Cozen’s bikini-eating shirt!), Magdalana, NavySeils, PhoenixRose, ValerieBean (I’ll have to make time to read some of your work), and WhimsicalNBrainpain. Rose, thanks for hanging out at the airport when you stumbled upon me there. That was delightful fun. Sorry I missed Rocky. Whimsy, sorry, but I lost track of you in the hectic shindig.

Ooops. Sorry, Mai. I should also mention meeting the Terrifying Space Monkey (with baby), who joined us during the slow motion Hokey Pokey dance!

The most important things I learned at this Dragon*Con?

First, good planning and excellent organizational skills make for a wonderful con enjoyed by all! Uh… At least that is my current theory. I hope to see it put into practice one day.

Second, copious amounts of alcohol do not necessarily improve one’s skill at Guitar Hero.

Third, you really don’t want to know why the stairs are so sticky.

Finally, friends are precious. Hang onto them.

Magda! You need to call me, sweetie! Jimi has my phone number(s).

Are you coming to Washington??? Are you taking the train from NY to here, or are you coming here first and flying out of NYC???

I have no idea what's going on. I'm so out of it.

So so glad you all had a great time at D*C !

Aaaah, sorry to hear that Amiton. You need to post more often in the picture threads. I was amazed at how many people recognized me. I think the best part for me was connecting with Browncoats from FFF.net and the 76th site.

You're probably right, VEx. One of these days I might decide to actually do some picture hosting somewhere. I did post in the first picture thread, and according to somebody around here, apparently I'm responsible for the deluge of weapons pictures in some way. I read that somewhere, I'm sure of it.

At any rate, the Con was still an incredible time. Meeting some of the people from this board was initially one of the main reasons I went in the first place, but I'm not in any position to complain about the weekend in any regard except lack of sleep - which is ultimately my own damn fault as well.

I'll figure something out to get together with the pack. Hell, I think Tristan's only a little over an hour away from here, so I could probably wedge my way into a mini-con with the 76th or something (not that I'm inviting myself...).

Amiton.

Did I get a chance to tell everyone how wonderful BC1 was? He came and walked Magda and me to the Vortex a mile and a half away. So very sweet

Rose, it was shiny to finally meet you and it was even shinier that you could make our humble room party.

I was happy to walk you and Magda to the Vortex. No way I'm letting such lovely ladies walk unescorted on the streets of Atlanta at night.

It never really goes away, MsG, not with folks as shiny as this, it just tends to dull over time, until it is refreshed by meeting and parting ways again. Last year was nothing compared to this, as I had only a select few whom I had gotten to hang out with and that I missed. Now, it seems that it is magnified tenfold (when it is actually more than that), both in the numbers of people and in the intensity.

*sigh* At least we have the interwebs ...

CANTER

Hi,

Back in SA and suffering from severe Browncoat seperation anxiety!

Thanks to everyone who made Dragon*Con truly special.

I woke up last night and for a second I thought I was still in my room at the Hyatt with my wonderful roommates.

Was kinda sad when I suddenly realised that I was "safe" and sound in my own apartment.

When are they building that bridge between SA and the US?

I didn't take near enough pictures of everyone... Isn't it strange how you always sort of assume that everyone else is taking pictures?

Can't wait to see all yours and I'll get mine up as soos as possible...

Missing everyone terribly :(

Everyone has to start saving for the South Africa shindig in 2009...

Aw, Zeph, you are awesome! I would not and could not run screaming because you're too shiny for that.
And hey, there are a whole lot more pictures in the two pic threads over in talk story! Sooo many shinies, but they need more! Post there? Please?
