Actually doing pretty good. Kinda on the fringe right now but Death Proof comes out tomorrow and I'm debating whether or not to leave early in order to watch it real loud. It just sounds like a good idea.

I just might. Seems the order of business is happiness and I intend on having a steady stream for as long as possible.

Okay, so I have been thinking. At the onset of this whole thing with Mindy we watched a movie we had both seen seperately (me on DVD and her on Lifetime). It really was the day before stuff happened and we pretty much cuddled the whole way through. The movie is Now And Forever starring Adam Beach and Mia Kirshner. If anyone has ever seen this movie than it is understandably hard to watch in more than a few aspects. I just thought it strange that we would see it from different sources near to at the same time and be thinking of eachother while watching it and then to watch it together.

Anyone who has not seen it hit me up. I'd been wanting to start a movie exchange here but figured I'd wait 'til there were enough interested forks in the thread who would pass movies about instead of getting movies and keeping them for themselves.

Hugs, MsG. I'm doing fine this morning.

Adam Beach was in Squanto: A Warrior's Tale, Smoke Signals, Windtalkers, Skinwalkers, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and tons of others.

This is a pic when he was younger in Smoke Signals.

And here's one that's a bit more current.

*Whirls around the room in Jimi's arms* Phew! Now that is much fun. I tell ya, a man that can move on the dance floor is a dream.

I'm a tad jealous having missed D*C...it looked like tons of fun. This is what I've been up to....

That wasn't much fun. The age old adage about riding is something about keeping the horse between you and the ground. I'm a firm believer in that adage, but can't always seem to follow it. There was no permanent damage other than a very bruised ego and some serious disappointment in my pony who was behaving like a he'd never shown before.

Oh well, we have another chance in three weeks...and that includes a shot at $1000.

Oh my goodness 'Bug. Seems I cringed as if I were actually there. No permanent damage is a good thing. Might be a wierd question but has your pony been isolated lately? Seems to have a far off look about him.
Hope your backside (and your ego) is doing better.
Hugs.

Well ladies, Now And Forever is a film about a Native boy and a white girl who grow up together and seem to part ways for terrible reasons. The girl comes from a pretty screwed up homelife and the boy from a traditional Native home, but each have a single parent. It is strange because she learns how to live with the world from the boys father and how not to live from her own mother. Honestly it isn't the greatest movie but the emotional content is staggering. Anyhoo, avoid looking at the Amazon plot summary because it gives up some plot points and ruins it.

Oh, forgot to say good morning to all.

Good morning.

Heh. Everything's fine... One of the first things I did once I got up was ask the photographer if she caught it. I was very happy when she said she did.

Interesting observation about Show. I'm not sure how you can tell in that picture (because it's so small you can't really even see his eye), or if you're just seeing his worried expression from the jump (they don't much like it when you fall off) or from the show in general (he was a pill the entire weekend), but it did turn out that he was sick. He's got a high fever that was just starting on Friday. We attributed most of the problem as stress from being at the show, but that wasn't the full story. He's currently in isolation so as not to get the rest of the barn sick and is getting meds.

Body language, not so much expression. He's posturing for the sake of doing his job. But the dispassionate look is usually attributed to sickness (which you mentioned) or the lack of freedom. Like people, animals just have to run or break stuff to blow off aggression. Posturing and form stifle those basic needs and encroach on happiness and eventually health.

Yeah, it might be kinda dumb reading into a few pictures of an animal I've never had contact with, but sometimes the basic lines of a creature (human or other) are very tell tale.

If you think that's wierd I've seen trackers who could read the emotional state of a person simply by looking at their footprints, even in office carpet. Now there is a skill worth developing.

So, whoever wants to watch the flick first, the lines are open, postage paid. The only stipulation is having to pass it to the next person when you're done. Movie number two is being voted on in my head and may include a small log for personal observations.

ADD: I read "stealy resolve" but kept thinking Steel Reserve Zeek. At least I have beer on the brain instead of OTHER.

Cranky would actually be flat footed, toe dragging slightly on the instep, and heel plant off center, probably toward the inside.

Just thought of something attraction wise. I am attracted to women who lift their feet when they walk. There is just something about dragging feet with little purpose that bugs me. Problem is that people tend to keep their feet close to the ground are usually more cautious and thoughtful. Yeah, I'm wierd, deal with it.

What was actually happening can fall into the description. Show was 'sucking back' (i.e. not galloping forward, not listening to my leg telling him to go) because he was looking at all the activity on the other side of the jump outside the arena rail. The jump was facing the in/out gate and everyone was congregated there. He was like 'what's going on out there." The jump ended up surprising him because he never focused on it until it was right under his nose. He stopped, I clucked and added leg and he leapt over, or mostly over , from a standstill.

The picture of the other jump was a similar situation, he was looking at the ring crew guy sitting on top of a utility box outside the arena.

That's our biggest problem. Show can jump much bigger in his sleep, but it's hard to keep him focused on his job because he gets worried and distracted by all the goings on outside of the arena. He gets better as the day goes on and he realizes nothing outside the arena is going to pounce on him.

If he were in a herd situation, he'd be the alarm horse, always telling the others where there is danger. 'Cept he'd see danger in EVERYTHING and would soon be the 'horse who cried wolf.'

I'm impressed that you could see a lot of that going on in the picture.

I figure it like people: Those that look far away can see danger coming and have the benefit of time on their side. But if the bus is already a few feet away then they usually wake up in the hospital (if they are lucky) wondering what hit them.

Does he have ADD? Not meaning to make a joke but children (and people who suffer from PTSD) do the same thing. It might be especially difficult to get him in game mode if you live in the country where there is alot of foliage/cover in an area where there may be water within a few miles and plenty of game. Mountain Lions are a big fear (and aggressor) with horses due to their soft skin and enclosed living space. The smell of amonia really gets 'em going because Lions always smell of urine. Is here any way you can correct the problems of distraction and vigilance? I usually translate from human terms and lack horse sense that folks like yourself are fortunate to have developed.

Seems Mindy gets the chance to ride and work now. She's been helping GND's old boss sell and maintain his revolving herds for a few weeks. She was interested in a large white mixed breed(at over sixteen hands and having a charger mentality I was almost inclined to get him myself) that I had the chance to ride a few months ago. But she wants something smaller and faster for roping. How is it some folks are lucky enough to combine their jobs with the things they love?

Whoops. Meeting time then off to lunch and to buy Death Proof. See y'all in a bit.

hmmm there's no way to take him to the arena early?? My sis had a horse like that. Took ages to get him in the trailer and he would have a fit for the first few hours. We always took him early and let him have a wander, it helped a little... but I swear that horse spooked at leaves and everything else.

NV- ooh sounds like that's a great job for Mindy...and were you not so amazing at your job and so needed, I'd suggest you look elsewhere.HUGS enjoy the movie darlin

Heh...yep. ADD is a fitting descriptor for Show. I have a hard time focusing his attention, my trainer does a much better job of it.

He lives in your typical CA barn. Sometimes we have coyotes (which he definitely lets me know about). Sometimes there are Bobcats...and I'm sure Mountain Lions are about ocassionaly, although we rarely see them. He definitely knows he's a prey animal and is always wary, especially of things coming up from behind because that's how many of their predators attack.

Those are the struggles the owner of a sensitive horse goes through. Really what would make the situation better would be more experience, but I just can't afford to go to more shows. It's a catch-22.

That's awesome that Mindy gets to combine horses and work. Wish I could find a way to make a sufficient amount of money involving horses. Unfortunately, the other age old adage in horses applies to me, "To make a small fortune in horses, start with a large one."

MSG: he DID get into the ring early. We spent about an hour in there on Thursday doing walk/trot/canter and even jumped a few things. You can't go into the ring on show days until your class starts.

Not anymore. He's 9 and if he was going to outgrow this he would pretty much be done at this point. He's just having a spooky period, partly because he's eating a lot of his neighbor's alfalfa. That always makes him spooky. But I can't figure out how to keep him away from the other's hay. Show does horsie yoga just to get at it.

Oh well. Back to more imponderables. Don't mean to monopolize things with my crazy horse issues. Let's talk about Zeek and his dancing issues.

*turns and waves to Zeek*

Um Mr.G... *points up*

Nobody ever listens to me.

MSG: Thank you for being so kind (too kind) as to cater to my tastes. White chocolate is technically not chocolate at all and should be shot for trying to impersonate it.

True scotch, excellent.

Single Malt, preferrably a Highland or a Speyside. Neat. A good cigar would be nice with it too ...
