Well now, she does complete her mission, doesn't she? and it scares the shit out of me! How else could one react? foreshadowing for a sequel... probably.

She is definetly not the sweet innocent young lady we saw, wanting to fly, at the end of the movie. The real question is, does Simon know and is he going to share that info with Mal? Most likely, NOT!

I think when River killed Dr. Joss, she was in a chemically induced, bizarro state of mind. Like a very, very, calm Reaver.

The higher ups probably saw the tape, with River telling the Doc of the failed PAX experiment on a fellow student, and ordered a clean up. Then, gave River the mission, thinking that she seemed to have the Doc's trust, and then do the job all to easy.

She's cute,
she's crazy,
she's also a bit creepy.
River Tam!

Chemically induced...ummm... more likely Behavioral Conditioning of the Suggestion variety.

Sublimination (her trigger in the Maidenhead) is reinforced through behavioral conditioning,
a la "A Clockwork Orange".

*smacks forehead*
Duh, the needles her brain and eyes.

Still, even in the movie, while River is "sleeping" in the chair, the doctors are saying something about amping up the drugs.

I'm no expert in Experimental Psych, but I do believe psycoactive drugs are used in conjuncture with conditioning, usually to trigger a negative response to stimuli, like inducing vomiting, for recovering alcoholics, when they drink.

But, River was clearly subjected to conditioning, and may still be a danger to all, on board. Just a thought

Poor thing

But... she's so cute.

Especially when she says:
"I do. But I like to hear you say it."

Yeah, cute, crazy-brilliant, and DEADLY and Serenity wouldn't have much of a plot without her being all three.

I love the sessons, they're very interesting, I wish they'd make more! And you're right without river being cute, crazy, deadly and brilliant FF and Serenity wouldn't be much

SHAMELESS

I'm not sure... I think that was actually a surgery where they were trying to alter that student's brain like they did with River. Trying to make a psychic assassin and whatnot. Plus, why would they "cut too deep" when the Pax is used in the air and not injected or whatever?

------------------------------------------
RPG launcher bought in third world country illegally - $10
Landmines - $50 per
Attack/track dogs bred 1st class - $250-500 per
Highpowered assault rifles - $600 per
The look on your face when I show up on your doorstep with a bigfoot - ... Priceless

I'm not sure if PAX was used on River at all... and the surgery could have been a physical attempt to control her brain function by stimulating and altering synapsis. It sounds like they could monitor her brain function (they knew when she was in REM, "scary monsters"). Actually we know that now (by wave patterns) and this is 500 years in the future.

Simon is not even sure what they did to her over the years. Heck, the writers aren't sure, so the possibilities are endless.

The Interviewer in the clip looked like Nathan.

The question that I have is how were they able to do surgery on her brain witout first cutting her hair?

non invasive future laser tech? aka fudging?
or...
possibly the surgery to the brain took place very soon after joining the academy -
a 'first stage' of the process before the full modifiication, education and conditioning process...
