My local newspaper printed a story the other day about the 10th anniversary of My So-Called Life being cancelled. In the article Ted Harbert the former president of ABC Entertainment said that he has a poster of My So-Called Life hanging on his office wall. He said that it was not to remind him of a great show that he brought to the air, but instead it is because he does not want to forget that he canceled the series after one season. He said "It's one of several things I call my humbling pieces, the things that remind me of how easy it is to screw up and let good television get away from you. There are plenty of mitigating reasons why MSCL got canceled but to me all of them are worthless. I still carry around a decent amount of guilt.".

I could not help but think of Firefly and Wonderfalls and Gail Berman the pres of Fox Television. Do you think she will regret what she has done to two of the finest television shows in quite a while? Let's make Serenity a big hit so that maybe Gail will be motivated to put a Firefly poster on her office wall as a reminder to think before she screws over a great show again.

Also, over on www.thefutoncritic.com today's poll is which network chief has made the best programming decisions. It lists all of the execs but there is no option for NONE OF THE ABOVE. Does anyone out there think the network chiefs are doing a good job? I sure as hell don't.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Interesting Cap CDC. It would definitley be a humbling piece if Gail had one hanging in her office.

Of course I hope all the Fox execs choke on the success of the movie.

Yeah, me too Browncoat1. Network execs strike me as being totally arrogant and holier than thou. I don't think I have ever heard one of them admit they made a mistake by cancelling a show. I was struck by Mr. Harbert's openness about his error in judgment. If all of those jokers could develop a conscience, the TV world would be a lot better off.

While I would love nothing more than to see Berman--or ANY network exec, honestly--eat a gigantic slice of humble pie, in public... the chances nowadays of any exec owning up to a screw-up is slim to none. The admission by Mr. Harbert... shocking, truly... but for the most part, admitting a mistake in TV is about the same as painting a target on your head, passing out ammunition, and lighting a cigarette.

Basically, it won't happen, but a guy can have fantasies (like that one about me, Inara, Kaylee, and the engine room hammock... but that's for a very different kind of forum )

I'd rather have a poster of Gail Berman on the wall...

...a wanted poster...

...on Jubal Early's wall...

...not specifying any particular need for her to be brought in alive...

Great idea! I think I'm going to send her one of my firefly posters. ( www.fireflymovie.com/poster_order.html )

Too bad the DVD's for MSCL came out way to late to try and resurrect the show. It was a great one.

Yes, I think she will have a Firefly poster on her office wall...

When her office is a cardboard box on "the corner of No and Where", hopefully sometime real soon.

Respectfully,

I voted just to see what the results were [I voted for CBS, despite that I watch absolutely nothing there].

For those curious, here's how it breaks down after 888 votes:
1. Leslie Moonves (CBS) [49.32%]
2. Jeff Zucker (NBC) [14.98%]
3. Susan Lyne (ABC) [12.27%]
4. Jordan Levin (WB) [10.02%]
5. Dawn Ostroff (UPN) [6.76%]
6. Gail Berman (FOX) [6.64%]

And, if I was ranking them in my opinion, that looks about right to me.
