About the MMORPG? It's true. Multiverse, (MMORPG software engine company) has the rights to Firefly and are currently looking for a developer.

No recent news about them finding one yet. They have some online boards where they are fishing for idea's etc.

i also posted about this recently.. there's another thread that has more details... basically a very recent response from multiverse was very vague... just saying they couldn't say anything, not yes it's happening, not no it isn't happening.

A demo of a game engine i've written in Flash is being presented at Adobe Max in Chicago on Wednesday.. i'm still looking for a 'theme' for the demo game that will run on my server while development of the engine is ongoing.. if we don't get anything from multiverse then i'm really keen to make this 'demo' version based on the firefly 'verse.

so either way in the next 12 months we'll have a MMORPG we can play... no disrespect to multiverse but i hope it's mine. Not because i have any problem with them. Just because my engine is designed to allow players to not only provide their own content but run their own servers...

best of luck to multiverse... cause making an MMORPG is HARD!

1) If you wanted a chance that Multiverse would use your engine, then you should've actually used what they're developing.

2) Multiverse has the rights to a MMOG for the FF/S 'verse. So, if you release that 'demo', you're just asking to get sued i.e. availability of the 'official' game means nothing, it's all about legal rights of which you have none.

whoa, take it easy.... first of all i didn't want multiverse to use my engine... i wanted to do it myself.... i started writing the engine before i'd even seen firefly.... i got into the whole firefly/serenity thing and thought it would a great idea for a game... then i discovered multiverse had bought the rights and started creating a game. My primary goal is to build an engine using a specific platform. Not to make a firefly game.

the 'demo' is not based on firefly - i obviously didn't make that clear in my post. So releasing it is my decision. It actually uses a set of star wars models to provide some context. Lucas Arts have seen a previous demo we produced and were quite happy to let us use the models for demo purposes.

I'm fully aware of the legal position i'm in, thank you. I'm a professional games developer not some amateur trying to throw something together. I'm certainly not going to waste my time developing a game that's never going to see the light of day for legal reasons. But thanks for your concern, and your friendly tone. Much appreciated.
