How does Firefly rank in terms of cancelled TV shows and how many years elapsed before Major Motion Picture was released?

For instance, I think Star Trek was cancelled in 69 after 3 season, and then MMP was around 1979.
Firefly debuted Sep 02 and can'd Dec 02, and BDM was Sep 05.

Anybody know of a quicker turnaround for a cancelled series?

The only other show I can think of off-hand is Police Squad. Canceled after 3? (there are 6 total) episodes in 1982, revived as The Naked Gun movie series starting in 1989.

Don't know if this counts, but the original Battlestar Galactica ran for 22 episodes from 1978-1979. A full length "movie" was released a few years later, but it was merely a combination of a 2-part and a one part episode...was called Mission Galactica....used episodes "Living Legend" & "Fire In Space". I saw it in the theater on the big screen...with SENSAROUND SOUND & it was pretty awesome.

Twilight Zone ended its' 158 episode run 1n 1964, and the motion picture came out around 1981.

Not sure if you would count this since the show wasn't so much cancelled but ended instead. Star Trek: The Next Generation ended 5/94 and the movie Star Trek Generations came out 11/94, so thats 6 months turnaround.

No, this (STNG) was not what I meant. This was part of the overall "Star Trek Plan" and STNG Movies were supposed to replace the original cast works, as they were aging and unable to continue performing.

I wasn't really considering Superman, Batman, and others which had different cast, but I can't even think of any of those with less than 3 years between cancellation (apparent end of the verse) and ressurection in MMP. Is FF/Serenity the quickest turnaround?
