Why do the " Hands of Blue" guys wear gloves? They sure aren’t surgeons. Any ideas?

It's not gloves, it's a full coverage body suit. And I don't know why other than it's some sort of armor.

So we can tell them apart from the other bad guys...plus maybe those aren't gloves, maybe they're just deformed:)

Their psychic powers are conferred via physical touch so they wear the gloves to protect against inadvertent pain/killing?

'Cause Joss felt like it, thats why. I'd do something like that too, were I in his position. Besides, it gives River a neat little whacky rhyme

It seems to be some kind of protective layer against those fright-pens they have - y'know, the kind of nosebleed that starts in your eyeballs?

Thanks everybody
Good responses from everyone and I agree. The creator of the “Blue Hand” segments may have been recalling the real life experiences of a doctors visit. For those of us that have had this experience, and who hasn’t, the sight of watching a doctor stretching tight latex gloves over a big hand with pointy fingers, well lets just say it may leave a mark, mentally. Not the doctor’s fault, they have to do what has to be done but in the same view, it don’t look good most of the time.
Anyway the latex glove on the hands does give the air of creepyness about it. Then the little prong thing adds to that.
Great idea and use of something visual without needing words to explain anything, course I can’t see anyone now that are wearing blue gloves and not think of FF. Ingenious.

Ps: no doctors were harmed in making this post

ACTUALLY, it's not latex. It's nitrile, a non-latex material. Many people are developing allergies to latex, and nitrile is a lot less like wearing rubber dish gloves than PVC.
Nitrile gloves also come in a stunning array of truly shocking colors! I've seen blue (of course), purple, green, yellow, orange, and PINK!!!(which could start that orbital hemmorrhage even without the little wand).
Someone brought a box of the blue ones to a function I was helping out with for the food prep gang. We had the "Evilest Kitchen Ever", with photo op.

EDIT:
Speaking as someone who has to put gloves on, we aren't always that thrilled about going there either... trust me.
