Since the previous thread is getting unwieldy but gnashing of teeth should still probably be going on I give you this hiatus thread.

(REPOSTED for your pleasure)

Mornin,' vumpers.

4,612,636 votes were counted as of 10/12/07; not sure how many votes got through or were counted, subsequent to that, before Rich locked the site down.

Rich has declared his intention, at this point, to continue with TVVote until 5,000,000 votes have been cast in the Top 40. That leaves 387,364, +/-. (ETA: Mebbe. Mebbe longer. Who knows?)

Just using the last counted day's total votes ('cause I'm too lazy to work up a daily average for the previous week =^[.]~=), 12,658, as a divisor, that leaves just over 30 remaining voting days, once Rich restarts things. That's 30 days to reach 500k.

At last count, we were 63,286 votes short of 500k. You do the math. Actually, I'll do the math: That would require us to get at least an average 2,110 votes each of the remaining 30 days.

Good news is, if we manage that, we will have gone over 100 days at 1k+ votes/day.

I don't have to spell out the bad news.

Anyway, I'll still be vumpin' like a wild man, right up to the bitter end. No one is ever gonna catch us up; Xena would have to crank out 1,051 more votes, each day, than we did, last recorded voting day (1,263), for 30 days, to beat us.

So, let's go out with a bang! Meanwhile, if you know ANY Browncoats who have voted but stopped, 'cause there was no end in sight, or, who have never voted, let 'em know we're gonna need 'em, next weekend!

I'll be in my training montage.

Heynielsen.com is worth some effort, as it has grown enormously over the last few months (according to siteanalytics.compete.com), and is now got four times the traffic of richlabonte.net, and about the same as us at fireflyfans.net.

However, if you want a multiple vote fix, check out;
www.space.com/php/multimedia/spacemovies/
index.php?url=spacemovies_serenity_00.jpg&cat=spacemovies

This is a huge site (nearly a million visitors a month) where we are being beaten by Star Wars. I believe you can vote once a day. We were stuck at number 10 for a while, but a few Browncoats have managed to get us up to number six. There is more work to be done here.

BTW, just take the above URL and turn it into a new location item on your desktop. Click once a day, to get a needed fix.

Hey, does this make me a pusher?

I only discovered the Google voting site 9/19 through this thread and since I'm retired and a partial agoraphobe I've had the opportunity to cast 238 votes before the shutdown. Looking forward to continuing when the voting site is back up. The least I can do for one of the best series of any genre ever created.

BTW, what does "vump" mean?

Welcome aboard, Josephus!

Vump means to cast a vote, then, post here to bump the thread (push it to the top of the threads list on the left side of the page).

Bote is the corollary, to bump the thread and then to vote.

Can I make a suggestion re the new threads?

Please don't think this is a post against your threads DaveShayne - as you're right, due to more vumpers, voting thread does get full quicker.

As Flat starts a new thread on Mondays, I feel, it doesn't serve much purpose opening a thread on sunday. I think it would be better if in addition to the Monday thread, there was a Thursday (Or maybe Friday) thread by either yourself or Flat.

I feel that would be more effective, it would break the voting week pretty evenly and it would keep consistency. By Sunday the threads pretty full anyway, whereas by Thursday/Friday it's not as bad.

Just my thoughts, not sure if anyone agrees.

Hello Firefly fans, I've been lurking on your site (pretty neat set up by the way) probably since March. I'm a Gunsmoke fan for sure followed by many of the other westerns. Probably much older than most of you too, hence I don't really get into the sci-fis (tho I did watch OStarTrek and XFiles. Never watched Firefly but from the photos i've checked out it looks like a futuristic western of sorts connection. Anyhow, after the ruckus over on tvvote, I thought I'd introduce myself. I see so many shows being tossed about that "may" have had their share of inacuracies. I'd like to believe not many did. However, I even without seeing Firefly, thought you were doing a grand vote going for that 400,000 mark and ended up voting several times for the show sight unseen. I have previously posted results on several Gunsmoke lists and when Firefly is mentioned, I think 90% had no idea what it was, but, several have actually gone out and bought the video sets and have told me how much they enjoy the show. (lol, almost as much as Gunsmoke). If you haven't watched Gunsmoke before or if you watched the later color editions, you really should dig deeper into Gunsmoke and go back to the Black and white episodes, you'd be surprised how well and tight the scripts, sets and characters were. You may even see some similarities.

By the way Raycheetah, as a fire department photographer, thank you for donating firefly sets to fire stations, that is a great gesture on your part.
take care all, sorry for the long post, may everyone prosper when tv vote is back.

Hey Westernmarshal.......I'm certainly no "spokesperson" for this site, but let me tell you how much I appreciate your post. I too am older than most Browncoats here. I grew up watching all those great TV Westerns of the 60's like Gunsmoke, Bonanaza, Big Valley, Death Valley Days, Rawhide, Lancer, Wagon Train, Branded, The Rifleman, Rin Tin Tin, etc etc etc. Gunsmoke was indeed a terrific show, but I think a lot of today's youth would find it too violent and too much a product of pre-political corectness to bear nowadays. Anyhow, keep up the fun competition!

Ni howdy, and, welcome aboard, Marshal!

Glad to have you! Better heads'n I have noted the similarities between Fireflly and many of the classic Western TV series; on the TV Vote Google group, I noted that what a Laramie fan had to say about the character interactions there sounded a lot like our BDHs (Big Damn Heroes).

I'm old enough to remember a lot of the older shows, though, I was a weird kid, wasn't into Westerns (one reason I almost didn't watch Firefly, when "The Train Job" was first aired, too Western for my tastes; I watched anyway, and, got hooked). As a Browncoat, though, I am always happy when anybody is willing to give Firefly a chance, and, glad to hear their feedback.

So, drop on by whenever you feel like it, Marshal. Just don't try to take any of us into custody; we're all way too busy to be bound by law, right now.

Oh, and, when I was a kid, my dad was with a VFD, so, I still retain a special friendship and, awe, really, for the first-responders. Not a job I'm sure I could handle, m'self, so, I'm glad there're those who can.

Speaking of which: What ever happened to shows like Emergency? Dun see the likes, much, anymore.

Be well!

A little more info about Rankopedia:

http://www.rankopedia.com/ZoneID=3/11692/Logout.htm

You have to register, first, but, you can vote on any individual poll once per day. Be sure to click on the Arts and Entertainment link on the left side, and, focus on Movies and TV; vote on any poll once per day. Be aware that most polls require you select a mininum of three candidates when you vote.

You can set any poll you like as a favorite; that way, you won't have to hunt it up on the lists every day. In fact, if you've already voted on a bunch of polls, you can hit a button under favorites that will list every poll you've voted on as a favorite. Saves a LOTTA diggin'! Also, be sure that, once you hit the "I want to vote" button, you scroll down to the bottom of the candidates; a lot of our BDHs (and others) are new, and, at the bottom of the polls. If you want to add a candidate you don't see listed, use the green +sign button. Please be very careful to enter the required info carefully.
