Are you Nutty for Niska? Batty for Badger? Do you swoon for Saffron?

Which minor or supporting player from Firefly would you most like to see in the BDM?

My top three:

1) Moshie the Jewish space-mail clerk
2) what's her name that Mal trapped under her horse. Katie?
3) Jubal Early (preferabbly having been picked up by the Reavers)

Mal trapped Patience under her horse. And I would love to see Bonnie Bartlett make an appearance in Serenity.

I definately would like to see Niska make a return. the BDH have a bit of unfinished business with him.

I'd also like to see Dobson again. Maybe Patience found him in the desert and patched him up.

America loves a winner!

I doubt that Patience could have 'patched up' Dobson, even had she wanted to. I know we didn't see the wound, but it's a safe bet Mal got off 1 clean shot to the head. ( Anyone notice how Book was standing right behind Dobson, in the doorway ? Kinda makes me wonder who Capt was really shootin at....). Besides, what's Patience gonna do w/an Alliance mole anyhow ?

Oh, as for which character in the BDM ?

Saffron? - not really,but I've kinda taken a shine to her..she's purty.
Jubal ? - leave him out in space...for now.
Niska ? - Lets face it, he's not getting any younger....best to close that chapter while we still can, if you know what I mean.

A good case can be made for most of the characters, but w/ out question, I think we need to see the return of the carnival freak show barker guy who tried to pass off a mutated cow fetus as an alien.

And btw..., YOU , FOX TV!

I've got a soft spot for badger myself. He's so little and British. Also, he has a very fine hat.

Niska's too sadistic, Saffron is too wiley, and Patience....I actually like Patience, but for her to be featured Serenity would have to go back to....Whitefall, wasn't it? I can't really see that happening

I'd have to say Badger too. Out of all the minor characters he's probably my favorite. Not only is he little, British, and own a very fine hat but he's a good business man too. Maybe he could possibly help with the plot development?

I'd love to see Jubal and Saffron return, but preferably after the movie when it comes back as a tv show (on showtime!)

Niska and Badger are both good candidates for the movie. Both can be introduced effectively in a very short amount of time, where Jubal and Saffron have so much backstory and unanswered questions to the shows fans that a quick "this is X, s/he's dangerous like this:" wouldn't feel right.

I also wouldn't mind seeing them run into the faux cop that was hunting Tracey in The Message. Even tho he delivered his lines like he was reading them from a script and wasn't entirely sure what they meant, he still sounded cool doing it. Not entirely sure how that's possible.

Am I the only one that sees an interesting problem coming out of that turn of phrase?

ROFLMAO!!! That's classic, if improbable. I'd like to see a bit part with YoSafBridge. They come running around a corner from opposite directions (fleeing from Feds/Reavers/whatever) and unknowingly bump into each other, recognize each other and freeze in place for a moment (Mal with the "big eyes" & in shock face), Mal looks down at the loot YSB just dropped, YSB kicks Mal - grabs her loot (yep, cleavage shot) & takes off running. Mal get up while mumbling something in Chinese and then starts running in the opposite direction. He he...I just think it would be funny.

I'll...third that motion. Anyone hear from Mr. Sheppard? I emailed him a long while back and asked if he might be doing (or be interested in doing) the FF movie, but he didn't reply back the second time, so I dunno.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but isn't he Australian? I always thought he was, but now that I think about it, he does sound more British.

That's exactly what I was thinking Thoreau - their characters are simple enough that the audience for the BDM would 'get it' right away.

And yes... I'd also love to see (from any angle) YoSafBridge.

Badger is British. . .his accent is "Cockney", which defines a more 'lower class' upbringing. . .which is perfect for his character.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Character to be in the BDM??? Let's take a look:

- YoSafBridg: Possible, but I don't think so. She has quite a bit of history w/ the crew & it might be time consuming for a movie to try to fill in the uninitiated on who she is and her connection to the crew.

- Niska: Same problem as Saffron. He has crossed paths w/ the crew twice, and now there is a personal issue between him and Cappy. You could probably wrap it up for new audiences w/ a brief but insightful exchange between two or more members of the crew, but I think it might be too much.

- Jubal Early: A distinct possibility. Sure he was floating around in space, but at the end of OiS, we see his ship peel off and head back the way Serenity had come from. We also see some sort of reflection in Jubal's helmet visor, but can't quite make it out. Could he have some sort of remote for ship? Seems likely to me.

- Patience: I could see her showing up, but she doesn't strike me as having much potential for being a great nemesis.

I am thinking that we will be introduced to an all new character, one that will be a very cunning and deadly nemesis for our favorite crew.

I think seeing Badger is a distinct possibility, just as I figure Joss was going to have Badger become a fixture for the series to begin with. . .simply because Badger can fit in easily and is a good 'plot device'. Badger is a source of work. There's no need to 'back-fill' a history with the crew or anything like that. . .newcomers to the audience don't need to know about the pilot episode or "Shindig" to figure out, "Oh. . .the guy in the hat. . .he's someone that they don't like, but they get work from. Cool. Got it."

Badger can be an ally or a nemesis. . .or more likely both at once. He and Mal have this "love/hate" thing going on. . ."I love to work. . .I hate this little cockney bastard and his stupid hat."

Yup, have to say Badger should be in the movie. He's a part of the Firefly/Serenity universe, same as YoSafBridge.....

I have to say I'd rather see cool new characters on the show than just re-hashing existing/old characters. Of course, Badger is a recurring character as an important business 'contact', but I don't see any particular need to revisit the other characters (until maybe the seventh season) ;)

Playing Alliance Advocate, here...

Actually, I do like that we see and hear about the other characters fairly often. Too many other action shows, sci-fi or not, tend to have the "villain of the week" syndrome. Serenity tends to operate in a particular part of space that is fairly familiar to the crew (and thus to the audience). This means that we occasionally bump into familiar faces at opportune (or inopportune, often as not!) times. Even when we don't *see* them, they play a role. Consider Mal's comment about waiting to pass out, in Heart of Gold--Saffron gets hers without ever showing up.

I don't want to see Firefly go the way of the "Ming the Merciless" villain, either, with his Plot of the Week (To Be Continued In The Next Thrilling Adventure). I like the way Joss did it: here you have nine people that are not movers and shakers in the 'Verse, just people with their own qurks living their lives their way. Occasionally they run into other people somewhat like themselves, pursuing their own interests.

Badger is not "evil", though he is not someone to trust, and YoSafBridge (or whatever) is just not well (let's face it, she has issues). Niska is sick and twisted in other ways. The Alliance is not evil en masse, they are people who had some disagreement with the Independents about how the 'Verse should be, and they won. The Reavers are not portrayed as "evil" so much as "alien"--something about them is so strange as to be beyond normal ideas about morals and ethics, almost like a force of nature.

The only real "bad guys" as compared to our "heroes" so far seem to be the Blue Hands. We have yet to see *any* redeeming quality in them, any excuse or mitigating circumstance. Perhaps Joss was getting to that point--or perhaps he never will.

To get to the point, and I do have one...I like the "small corner of the 'Verse" feeling of all this. The crew will never Save the Galaxy, in fact they have yet to Save the World (and I hope they never do!) They are little fish in a big pond keeping a close eye on all those other fish of varying size and grabbing what scraps they can. The other fish are just as important in their own way, and they should not be used and dumped in favor of "somebody new": it's their 'Verse, too. They each have a role to play.

Even the ones that get shot between the eyes because the Cap'n doesn't have any time for this crap and then get dumped out in the desert. Being a fish means sometimes you get the worm, sometimes you just get the hook.

"I give up. I admit it. I'm a Browncoat."

Good point on Badger. He is a source of work, and a contact for fencing goods. He is also that obnoxious little character that annoys you because he has just enough power to be a thorn in your side if you cross him.

Since he is merely a go between for business deals, there would not be a need for backstory to explain Badger to new fans as Static pointed out.

Late response:

Actually, the character I would like to see back is Sir Warrick, from "Shindig". I really enjoyed how that actor pulled off his role, and I think he could do well coming back. Perhaps something like this:

Warrick: "Captain Reynolds. How good to speak to you again."
Mal: "Sir Warrick! How's business?"
Warrick: "Not good, really. I find that I am in need of your services once more, for which I am prepared to pay handsomely. There is a very important cargo that needs to leave Persephone from the Eavestown Docks immediately. Some of my...friends desire to lay hands on it rather desperately, and I fear I must thwart them in their design."
Mal: "Ooookay. Can I ask what this cargo is?"
Warrick: (rueful smile) "Why, myself, Captain."

"I give up. I admit it. I'm a Browncoat."
