Is finally arriving!

http://www.quantummechanix.com

I ordered one a while ago, and I've been patiently waiting ever since they announced the delay. Now it's so close I can even taste it. Not that I'm gonna eat it, of course. Well, maybe lick it.

I just saw this too, gotta say Im extremely dissappointed after a year of waiting, to see the changes, and I know the hero version is completely out of the question pricewise to me, I had to ask for a refund.

How much do you think the Hero version will go for?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Got to agree that the changes made to the pistol disappoint me a bit just looking at the pics.

Particularly as it doesn't appear to include the (rather distinctive) magazine.

However, I can understand their decision. They're trying to get the best of both worlds, and there's only so much they can do.

Rumor has it, around $800 and no even ballpark figure of when it will go into production.

I was most looking forward to the real walnut handle and the fact it was limited edition, one of only 1000 they were going to make, even had a spot on my wall all picked out. I notice this new stunt version is an open edition.

$800?!? For that kind of money it better be a working firearm and shoot real bullets!

I don't think it fires real bullets, but I believe the plan is that it will "work" to some degree.

I'm interested in buying the cheaper version of Mal's Gun but does anybody know if QMX ship worldwide since I live in England, futureplanet.co.uk do sell most of QMX's props, etc but they aren't selling Mal's gun anymore and most likely won't sell the cheaper version.

Rumor being the operative word, Dear.

I've only seen this figure "quoted" once prior to Teh Awesome ArtCat, and it was not from QmX.

Getting the all-metal one Aikin got may be the best bet... and with my access to machine shop... moo hoo haa haa...

As for shipping overseas, the easiest way to find out is to visit their webpage and ask them.

This is taken from a quote at whedonesque:

'BlueEyed - I know for sure we're no longer able to ship Mal pistols into the U.K., which is a major bummer because there are a lot of loyal Browncoats who I know have been hankering for these. But I'm not sure about Canada. Let me ask our fulfillment folks to look into it and I'll post an update here. We should probably add something to the next newsletter about countries that ban "weapon replicas", fantasy-based of not.

Thanks for the heads-up!'

They can't ship to the uk due to customs.

Thanks darlin'. It's comfortin' to know you've always got my back. Just don't go buryin' no Ninja-to in it.

I do think the all metal one Akin found is the way to go. Unfortunately not all of us have access to a metal shop.

Ooops - after listening to ( http://www.fireflytalk.com ) FireflyTalk I realise that the magazine isn't missing - it's the correct version from the movie, which differs from the series.

There's also a nice review over at Serenity Stuff ( http://www.serenitystuff.com/2007/10/02/qmx-mal-stunt-pistol-the-first
-look
/ ) which includes some decent pictures. The non-flash pictures make the pistol look really cool - I'd love to see one in the flesh.

I'm confused people are talking on this thread about a Hero Mal Pistol but on QMX it only lists the Stunt Mal Pistol. Could somebody explain what are the differences or even if there are 2.

Originally there was going to be 1 pistol, retailing at $250. However, after a bit of market research, QMx realised that $250 was too much for the casual market, but that the planned pistol was actually a little bit lacking for the serious replica market. So they dropped a few details from the original pistol, dropped the price to $150, and you get the stunt pistol. But they're planning to do a really high quality replica (I believe with a working action, but not sure about that) which is the "hero" pistol, but will retail for a bit more.

There's an interview on Firefly Talk with QMx from just after the announcement, if you want to get it from the horse's mouth (which is likely to be much more accurate):

Thanks for clearing that up but when people preodered the orginal $250 pistol didn't it fill out all 1500/1500 preorders so what happened to them.

Anybody who preordered had a number of options:

1. Complete refund
2. Refund of the difference, and receipt of the stunt pistol (complete with the original delivery price, which has since increased)
3. Put the money towards the upcoming Hero pistol (or, IIRC, any current QMx items)

There's a FAQ about the gun here: http://www.quantummechanix.com/stuntpistol.html

and details of the different options if you preordered here:

For those of you that can't get these shipped to you, someone has been selling a few on ebay that aren't nearly this quality, but still cool. You'd have to paint it yourself. I think they generally run about $50.

If you're talking about the Wilco kit, I bought one and am distinctly unimpressed. Beyond having the wrong grips for either the movie or TV version of the gun, the casting I received is full of air holes, has lots of molding flash and the barrel is warped.

However, I've read that others are very happy with the castings they've received. Maybe mine was just a poor example.

If you're talking about the "Coolmodels" pistol, it's even more inaccurate than the Wilco.

I haven't actually bought any of the pistols. I'm so cheap I had to carve one myself, and then the barrel broke off. :-( I need more money...

Yep, that's the Wilco kit. It comes cast in three pieces of black resin - the two grip halves and the main gun body.

Caveat emptor - I was not pleased with the casting.

Well 39.95 beats 800.00 if you plan to buy one.
I agree. For $800.00 it better fire real bullets.

The QMX Serenity stunt pistol is only $150, and it would be a great piece at twice that price. It fits perfectly in hand, unlike the Wilco (the grips are oversized for the frame and not properly angled) and the finish is incredible.

My only complaint is that QMX can't legally produce a Firefly version.

So there have to be slight alterations so it is not a perfect copy. But just looking at some of the pictures, these guns are nearly perfect. I would have to freeze frame Firefly several times to see Mal's gun from different angles just to see where these differences are. $150.00 is a little more reasonable than $800.00 for sure.

Sure, there have to be differences, but it didn't have to be uncomfortable to hold - or, in my case, poorly cast.

The top rib is different between the Wilco Firefly and the QMX Serenity, and the Wilco has a slightly longer (.25 inch, maybe) barrel. Admittedly, Wilco didn't have the original to work from, so they based their grips on existing Ruger grips.

And yeah, the Wilco unit is $40, but that's unassembled and unpainted. What's your time worth to finish it?

The picture posted here is assembled and painted. When I ordered my Wilco, they said I could get it assembled and painted by them for an additional $25 or so, but I haven't seen that version, so I can't comment on it.
