A bit of both I think. But the interview said that a lot of the bastards that canceled Firefly are gone, and the new crowd was more receptive to the idea of "Dollhouse."

No joke, peeps. If you go on Whedonesque, you can see the mountain of responses singing the praises. There is that tiny matter of the strike, though. It will delay production for awhile if things aren't resolved quickly. But this seems to be a sure shot barring that, so we hold the line.

The title sounds vaguely sexual, and the content seems compelling and accessible. I don't see how it can miss.

I consider this good news! Joss has been missing from the television landscape for far too long.

Yeah, it's on FOX. I'd rather see it anywhere else, but Eliza's deal is with them, so that's where a series starring her is going to be.

Studio execs never seem to last long, so the FOX we all love to hate aren't really the guys in charge anymore. It sounds like the new guys have a lot more faith in Joss, if they ordered seven episodes without even seeing a script or pilot! That's unheard of!

It's like Paramount. The old guard didn't want any more Trek ever, after canceling Enterprise! New Guard comes in, and goes, "Hey this is the biggest franchise Paramount has! We have to have Star Trek. Call J.J. Abrams!"

I'm also not concerned with a new series hurting the chances of a "Serenity" sequel. Joss has proven that he can handle having several pots on the fire. With Tim Minear attached, Joss won't have to do the majority of the writing and producing! When "Dollhouse" finishes shooting for the season, Joss would have more than enough time to shoot a certain "straight to DVD" sequel!
Now he just has to write it! Hey Joss, no more killing off any of our BDHs!

Either way, I'm pumped about this. Any Joss on TV, is better than none!

I am becoming increasingly concerned that joss' rep/cred in hollywood is minimized to "geeks only." what the fuck is he doing on fox. that should be a no-go from the get-go. don't tell me the old guard left. they still cancel shows like they're throwing confetti. don't tell me eliza has to work with them: there's other actresses in the world. either he has power and vision for himself, or he's working for crumbs... and this REEKS of submissiveness that makes me sad for him.

the show is going to be terrifically interesting. for as long as it lasts. the premise sounds really derivative, but i trust joss to pull out of the alias/matrix shadow with his talent.

it gets worse. i just read the information at the shows' website. they've only given him 7 eps. (one third of a season.) don't get attached to this show.

Ummm, gloom and doom much?

If Joss has chosen to work with Fox again, there's a reason for it. I'm not thrilled about it, but if Joss has confidence that this will work, then we'll just have to get behind him.

And just so you know, Eliza is also a producer for the show. She's an extremely good actress, and is obviously very involved in the new endeavor. Joss isn't working with her out of the kindness of his heart; he knows she can get the job done, and well.

No, the deal is that he won't get LESS than 7 episodes...
he is protected from being canceled after one or two,
he has insured that at the very minimum he'll get a story arc out
(and 7 episodes of Joss are better than none!)

But in fact the Fox execs who hired Eliza & Joss are excited about this, they didn't ask for a pilot, they aren't asking to read the scripts first, they have totally already paid for 7 episodes....
this is a really good deal, this is a rare deal.
EVERYBODY has to make a pilot, most pilots don't get picked up!

If I'm going to keep promoting and cheerleading then I'm going to have to get pompoms and an outfit.

Let's do away with any negativity here. Enough time to weege IF it gets canceled, okay peeps?

WHY IS THIS SHOW ON FOX?

WHY IS THIS SHOW ON FOX?

It's getting to be a broken record!

Here's the answer. The only answer to that question!

Eliza has a series deal with FOX. Eliza called Joss for ideas for her series deal. Joss came up with a series for Eliza.

If Joss want's to produce a series for Eliza (which he obviously does), it has to be at FOX. That's the deal she has with them!

End of story!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

Give me a break! I am GLAD Joss is willing to do what it takes to get back on the air where we need/want him. If Evil, Inc. (the real-life Wolfram & Hart, IMO) wants to give him a show, then to hell with all else.

Joss has an opening here to be able to do what he does best. It's been given to him, I think, because of the success of Bionic Woman...he's on the next train of copycats, just as Heroes was to Lost, Bionic Woman is to Alias, Moonlight is to Angel and Forever Knight, etc.

The catch, of course, is that he's better than most out there. Hell, all of them as far as I'm concerned but that's just me. He'll make it into something amazing and original still, of that I have absolute faith. Maybe, just maybe, mainstream viewers will figure it out too.

I, for one, can't wait to "meet" new Joss characters to fall in love with!!!

I just wish he had the mojo to pull off a screw-you to fox and take his ideas elsewhere. why didn't the big networks snap him up???

He couldn't!!!!

Eliza has a series deal with FOX! Eliza called friend and mentor Joss for advice for HER new series. He came up with an idea for HER series, that he liked enough that he wants to produce. Any series starring Eliza Dushku will be on FOX, because of her deal with them!

What's amazing is, the new guard at FOX liked the idea enough to order 7 episodes, without seeing a single script or pilot first! It seems like the new execs at FOX have a lot of faith in Joss! We should be thrilled. Joss obviously is! He's getting back to the medium he does best!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.
