I've been watching Stargate Atlantis and finally Jewel had an episode where she was more than just an exposition filler for medical knowledge. I thought she did a great job in "Missing" where she and Teyla are in a very dangerous situation on a planet. Her character finally had a chance to grow and expand a little and we learned more about her background. Still Stargate can't hold a candle to Firefly. How did that show stay on the air for ten years? And now Atlantis has been renewed for a fifth season. There is no justice.

Jewel was most impressive last night. Really played her part well.

"First I have to have someone to treat," she says and shoots the man in the leg.

Now that's a doctor!

Loved the movie Stargate. Tried watching SG1 a few times, and gave up, mostly because the episodes I saw never lived up to the movie. Never watched the spin-offs until last night's episode featuring so much of Jewel (I'll watch anything w/a BDH at least once). It wasn't too bad, and enjoyed her part in the episode.

Was anyone else reminded of River fighting reavers when Jewel's female companion was fighting the enemy (sorry - don't remember any character names). Next time I'm home on a Friday night might have to watch again.

I'd rather be a smartass than a dumbass...

I don't watch SG Atlantis that much and was happy when I saw her in an action scene while flipping channels. There was a second when I thought "oh no, Kaylee's going to get shot again", then when she had the gun and shot him in the leg, I almost cheered for her, she did what she had to but stayed true to her morals...then I remembered, "oh yea, it's not Kaylee...damn you F*X! (once again)".

I love both Stargates, but yes, nice to see another BDH get a good role.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Liked the episode, moreso because it not only allowed Jewel's character to develop, but because it was a real Teyla centric episode. I think it is also setting the stage for some more episodes down the road where Teyla will get some attention. What is it the doc wants to talk to Teyla about? What is the mystery?

Did anyone else get annoyed with how whiney Jewel's character seemed to be? I know it was merely setting the stage for her finding her courage at the end of the episode, but it really grated on my nerves the first part of the episode.

INdeed, I watched it, we watched and learned Jewel's character developing in that episode. I believe that the character share almost similar traits as the Kaylee. yall agree?

I think Teyla is pregnant. The whole episode they were dropping lines about Teyla having recently developed a romantic interest with one of her native people. Now she will be obsessed with finding them for a whole other reason.

Watching Teyla fighting is always awe inspiring. Whoever does the fight choreography did a splendid job in this episode. Her enemies were attacking in concert instead of the old one guy attacks while the others stand around waiting for their turn to be killed. Those guys really reminded me of Reavers what with the grunting and cannibalism. Danny Trejo as the chieftain was great, that guy is so underappreciated.

That was what I thought when I was watching her hesitation in taking the scalpel and listening to her whine.

That was my first thought too, that Teyla is pregnant.

I thought that the writers were trying to put her and Sheppard together. So much for that plan, at least for the immediate future.

Agreed. I love watching her fight scenes as the choregraphy is really very well done.

The fight scenes in this episode are the best so far due to the fact, as you pointed out, her opponents were attacing in concert, not one at a time. It came across as more realistic and really showed Teyla for the warrior she is in the show.

Adam's in one episode of SG1, as well you know. Maybe more than one but that's all I've seen him in so far. Season 7 I think. And (blanking on the name) from Slither has a major role in another episode.
You know, he was the guy who turned into an alien. (Kind of like getting taken over by a symbiote but nastier..).

I don't *think* I remember seeing the fellow who played the sheriff in Train Job/mayor in Slither.. but my brain is trying to plug him in somewhere on that series.

I'm not trying to be snarky, I swear, but it didn't even occur to me that there was supposed to be a mystery. I just figured it was supposed to be obvious that she was going to say Teyla is pregnant.

It did, but frankly, I don't think I would have fared much better if I'd found myself on an alien planet surrounded by people who wanted to kill and eat me and who had apparently killed an entire village full of competent fighters, with no particular hope of immediate rescue and no weapons.

What I DID particularly like was when she stopped Teyla and told her, essentially, not to give her special treatment; not to consider leaving the other guy behind just because she was there. I actually found that far MORE courageous than shooting the guy at the end.
