We're looking for a name for our new big damn theatre at 111 Grace Street in downtown WIlmington, NC. I've been told by our marketing gurus that "The Big Damn Theatre" isn't a good idea, so now I'm turning to, you, my friends for help.

We're going against the grain with our new pub and theatre, rejecting the all to common sports bar motif. We're also staying away from the posh atmosphere of a martini lounge. Instead we're going for something that appeals more to our core audience. Theatre and film geeks...or just plain geeks in general...a sci-fi leaning, movie inspired fun place to hang out an have a beer while watching a play or film.

We've narrowed our name choices down to the following three. Please feel free to comment and toss them around to your friends. We really do need help with this very important decision.

1. The Brown Coat Pub & Theatre

2. The Blue Sun Pub & Theatre

3. Kobol

Thanks in advance for the help/advice.

Browncoat.

I'm not much of a pub goer, but I'd stop in such a place. Might even make a trip special for the purpose.

I think Browncoat. The Blue Sun is good, but I think Browncoat is better known. Just MHO:)

Good luck! or should I say....break a leg!

Browncoat is my favorite too. Some have expressed concerns that it sounds a bit militant. So far that's been theonly negative connotation.

Definitely 'The Brown Coat' !

SQUEE ! Delight ! Jumps with Joy !

Now I KNOW my new Hangout...I am so THERE !

'Filmington' has been needing this for a while now !

What are the brews that are going to be on tap ?

I really love Yuengling's 'Black and Tan' , which really means 'Brown' , if you think about it...

P-M me about this...It's so Excitin' !

BTW-- Ain't nuthin' inherently 'militant' 'bout a Brown Coat...

'Inna-pennant' is more like it...

It sounds like you're going to have more than just Firefly going on there, so I might try to do something that sounds a bit more sci-fi. "Browncoat" is awesome, but it doesn't exactly scream "Sci-Fi." Maybe "Browncoat Stardock" or something like that. That would attract fans from Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate (notice a "Star" theme in those names?), and even help introduce them to the 'verse.

Now there , that's not a bad idea...Only I'd suggest , "The Brown*Coat 'Star Port' Pub and Theatre" , 'cause one of the names for Wilmington is 'the Port City'...

I took a walk down there this afternoon , just to get a visual , and a little feel for the place...

Nandi and 'Nara would APPROVE !

The venue is still inhabited by a LINGERIE Store

called , get this , "Pandora's BOX" !

" There'll Be Whores ."
" I'm in ! "

An Auspicious beginning for this establishment...

...er , or should that be 'ass-picious' ?

P.S.-- For those that *may* follow such things , and who knows , *some* Brown*Coat actually might , 'One Tree Hill' was doin' a location shoot right across the street , at a building on the corner of Grace and the 200 Block of North Front Street...

I hate to be the downer here but you should check into copywrite issues with trading using material from an owned property. Universal is not known to be generous with anything they "own". It is a great idea and a place I would like to go (sounds like), I would just hate to see the rug pulled out from under you.

A legitimate concern...

I'm sure that the folk are lookin' into potential issues like that...

But nobody owns a copyright or trademark on the English phrase , "The Brown Coat" .

'Browncoat' might be a 'nuther cuppa tea , but these folk are not gonna be implying any sort of connection , nor would they need to...

This ain't their first round-up , so
'no worries'...

A very solid concern and one our real estate attorney is looking into.

Also, for right now, that's why we're focusing on "The Brown Coat Pub & THeatre" rather than "The Browncoat Pub & Theatre". A little space can make a big difference in copyright issues. Or so our attorney says.

My biggest concern is wonderign how Mr. Whedon might react if we go this route. My worst nightmare would be to do something that offended him or the other creators or somehow stepped on their toes.

From all that I understand of Joss, you might see him drop in for a pint or two.

The response we've gotten so far is split about 50/50 in favor of "The Brown Coat" and "The Blue Sun".

Folks seem to think the Brown Coat sounds either classy or militant and the Blue Sun sounds "hippie" or fun.

And if Joss or anyone from the show ever did pop in, drinks are on the house.

No worries...They're not mutually exclusive...You can have the Blue Sun Theatre inside the Fabulous Brown Coat Pub !

You know , Alan Tudyk's been here before ,
pre-Firefly...It wouldn't take a lot to convince some Big Damn Heroes to pop in from time to time...

What if Fox decides 'Dollhouse' should be made in Wilmington ? We might see a bit of Joss if that were to happen...
