Sorry, I don't know who you're talking about- I got that from an awesome book- The Man With the Golden Torc, by Simon R. Green. It's a lot like his Nightside series, if that helps you any, either to understand or to buy the book

Ah. That's weird, because I know who that guy is now that you've described him, but I've only ever seen him on this jacket of my dad's, and that was a while ago.
