Sorry for thinking like a typical Yank, SAB39; I just assumed Mr. Rogers would be a universal childhood experience, across the English-speaking world. And, I'm votin' the Rog 'cause LeadB has been asking me to for a long time, now, and, I respect the B.

Belated (and, I still can't gorram vote!) due to issues that I haven't been able to get to the updated screens (except fot the totals) on ANY link manual mornin' stats BUMP:

http://richlabonte.net/tvvote

http://www.richlabonte.net/tvvote

http://richlabonte.net/tvvote/index.html

Top two scores as of this morning:

(Previous day's stat)

Total votes Firefly: 501,203 (500,212)

Total votes Xena: 435,317 (434,839)

Yesterday, Browncoats voted 991 times (971).

Yesterday, Xenites voted 478 times (436).

(Xenites voted 513 (535) times less than Browncoats, yesterday.

Firefly is 65,886 (65,373) votes ahead of Xena, more than the vote total of #36 show Scarecrow and Mrs. King, 64,513!

Yesterday, Firefly got more votes than the next two top-ranked shows combined, Xena, 478, and Bonanza, 466, a total of 944!

Yesterday, Browncoat votes rose by 20, 2.06%; Xenite votes rose by 42, 9.63%.

Firefly has reached half a million votes! What a shiny banner we got! You can still view it at:

http://richlabonte.net/happy/firefly.htm

5,258,332 (5,247,337) votes have been counted as of 12/17/07. Yesterday, 10,995 (10,706) votes were cast. In order to take ownership of 10% of all votes cast yesterday, we needed to vote 1,100 (1,071) times, of which we fell short by 109 votes. Our share fell to 9.5315972% (9.532683%) of all votes ever cast.

Yesterday, our vote percentage fell, a bit. Not to worry, Browncoats. Yesterday was also the second shopping Sunday out from the Christmas holiday, so, most shows took a hit in the votes. We'll get it back on the rise, again!

In other TV Vote news:

Buffy got 483 (462) votes, yesterday, and, is now on track to pass The X-Files to take 7th place within 1.27 (2.86) days.

Angel got 409 (392) votes, and, is now set to overtake #11 show Lexx in 13.7 (15.24) days.

Finally, Dark Shadows got 436 (350) votes, yesterday, a new voting record!

Mr Rogers was never shown in the UK, they bought Sesame Street instead.

But when I see the decency and determination to teach tolerance, compassion and kindness that Mr Rogers strived for then I will stand up to support his efforts.

Wow! Thanks, Jorune!

I was fortunate enough to grow up (such as I did) with Mr. Rogers in my childhood.

Isn't that a wonderful message? I started to applaud before the audience did!

We need more people in the world like Fred Rogers VUMP!

Bittersweet news: I have just got a new comp , but in order to transfer all my stuff, I'll have to give it to an expert for a week . So, I'll only be here for a tiny bit.

Also, some personal bad news, but while trying to play b-ball with a friend of mine (keyword is trying- I'm not good at sports at all lol), and that retarded b-ball landed right on the tip of my pinkie, and it hurts whenever I move it

Sorry for ruining this, but I've been having sort of a bad day. I have a ton of new books, but I forgot to bring some with me while I'm here.

SAB39...
Actually, a -long- time ago, before DS nomination, before Drive was even a show, we tried to get a 'kid's show nomination' running. At the time, we were discussing
Sesame Street
The Electric Company
Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood

Some folks simply indicated they would not vote for 'this show or that', and basically... it was Mr. Rogers' who seemed to actually get the most votes during the discussion time... so that's the one I settled on (no idea how much the fact it was my favorite of the three impacted that, but so be it). I then went recruiting, and found Ellen over on the Bonanza board and a few other who said they'd support Mr. Rogers.

A lot has happened since then. The Drive nomination took clear preference until the show was 'cut short', and then it was a bit touchy to ask for Mr Rogers votes... what is a decent time to wait? Anyway, I decided that once DS made top40, I'd go back to hawking Mr. Rogers and see what we can do.

I was just kidding, and cannot say it is for children honestly since the show is a comedy where the three to four main characters insult each other with british versions of swear words like smeg head. Red Dwarf is a science fiction comedy which does not take itself too seriously, and while it does its best to stay true to science fiction it will not let that get in the way of comedy. Basically the show is about the last human alive, andong with a hologram of his old roomate who hated him, a descendant of a cat who he illegally smuggled on board and was put into stasis for, and a mechanoid who has a fetish for cleaning things.

And what is the deal with Xena? That program, alright, it has alot of nice women in it but come on it was pretty bad, how does it get such ratings?

Still being a New Zealander its nice to see.

Tales of the gold monkey was a great show, and I would definitely nominate it, except now I am on a mission to get Red Dwarf into the top 40. BTW vump, but can you remember if the Tales of the Gold Monkey was pre Indiana Jones or not? I remember vaguely its cancellation being a somewhat mystery because it was a much watched show with a great plot, but I cannot remember having any knowledge as to why it was cancelled.

First off, it's not generally considered polite to insult the other shows on the list. We've had some trolls on here making very insulting comments about Xena fans in the past - yours isn't anything like as vicious as some, but after those incidents Xena fans who post here are understandably a little touchy. And besides, nobody likes to see their favorite show get put down.

Anyway, I'll give you my theory, for what it's worth, on why the list looks the way it does. It's not really a measure of the "best shows of all time". Or even of the most popular, or any other "logical" measure. (It's just coincidence that the show at the top of the list really is the best show ever made )

Firefly routinely gets 1000 votes a day or so and those are spectacular numbers - all the other shows on the list struggle to get half that. Considering that without too much effort it's possible to get in 10 votes per person per day - and there are nutters like Ray who regularly get 24 - that only equates to about 100 active voters. Probably slightly more than that with a bunch of them voting less than 10x/day, but still, the number is in the low hundreds.

So what it's really a measure of is which show has a group of fans who (a) know about TV Vote, and (b) are organized and motivated enough to get 100+ fans to vote, consistently, daily, over a period of many months. There's no scientific rhyme or reason to which shows that's going to apply to. I think Xena is so high up partly because they were one of the first fandoms to discover the site, and secondly because when their first place was threatened, they fought HARD to keep it for a long time. To date, we still haven't been able to come close to matching their peak voting effort. Instead, we just outlasted them.

I don't know if all of that had any particular point to it, or whether I'm just rambling because I'm supposed to be working and I'm procrastinating it.

Oh, and vump.

I just went to wikipedia and they said the reason the tales of the golden monkey was not reneed for a second season was that while in America and in Great Britain it received great ratings the producers at ABC decided it wasn't worth the cost of production. I bet somebody at ABC regrets that decision.

Yeah, I suppose I'm one of the last still nominating Drive... And I'm really tempted to start in on Mr. Rogers, see if we can move him a bit, it's just hard to let another fabulous show (Drive) die.

Just a reminder, folks... Though you can only nominate one show per hour, it doesn't HAVE to be the same show, each time. I'm casting a couple votes each day for both Red Dwarf and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, the balance of my votes going to Moonlight, which is both my wife's current fave, and, another fandom friendly and related to the Dark Shadows fans.

Many of the newly-liberated Dark Shadows fans are nominating a slew of shows, now that the push for DS is over. Some stick to one favorite, others drop a few votes in on shows they want to see move a few slots, then, switch, again.

It's a lotta fun! Also, if a show you like isn't even on the Noms list, you can get it added by nominating it. I've toyed with the notion of adding some old Japanese tokusatsu faves from my distant childhood, but, it'd be kinda pointless, since I couldn't support them, much, and, I'd very likely be the only one voting for them.

Nominations options BOTE!

Another vote. The Prisoner was one of the best productions ever on a small screen. Who are we and how do we know this was the prime premises, along with social norms forcing people to conform. Rover was the ultimate law authority, the ultimate censor. Most cool.
