Does anyone else have this feeling of foreboding?

I was just wondering what everybody thought about how Fox is treating the show. Is it getting enough ad time? Are they pushing it enough? Is the timeslot good? (I happen to think the timeslot is a good one, there's nothing else on on Fridays).

I have fear that Fox will somehow hurt this spectacular show that I have come to know, love, and crave like a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken at 12:00 at night (or, ya know, something you like and crave a lot. MMMMM cripsy chicken....)

so post it up!

Well, I think there's no way on earth the time slot is good. There's a reason nothing else is on then: Nobody's watching.

I don't really think Fox is doing it any favors, PR-wise. But I still think they're behind it, so I wouldn't really say I have a feeling of foreboding.

The timeslot isn't ideal. But the upside is not much competition. Fox is still promoting the show somewhat, although it's not their highest priority. The ratings for Jaynestown and the amount of promos during the World Series (next Friday is an off day in the Series, so FF and John Doe are really the only shows to promote) should be a good indicator.

The timeslot is basically a show-killer. But stranger things have happened.

My concern? SFC is moving the remaining 11 eps of "Farscape" to the same slot as of January. Given the very unpopular cancellation of that series and the massive movement to get huge ratings when it airs again...well, it's certainly not going to do "Firefly" any good. And I'm not pleased to have two series that I think deserve strong support in direct competition.

Of course, I've already solved the problem to deal with the "Alias"/"Angel"/"Sopranos" scheudling on Sunday, so that one's a no-brainer for me!

At least Sci-Fi will only run the Farscape episodes when the major networks are showing reruns. So it won't hurt Firefly for either the November or February sweeps, assuming it's still around by then.

Are the ads still showing on Yahoo's e-mail? That's how I found out about the show, and without those I probably would have missed it entirely. Happy I am that I don't use AOL. Firefly's the only thing that has reconciled me to Yahoo putting the massive ads into its new e-mail format.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. SFC is planning to run the final 11 eps of "Farscape" at 8 PM on Fridays without a break at sweeps. So they're going to run for 11 weeks straight.

You know what bugs me, though? This rating system doesn't take into account VCRs or other recording devices. I record almost everything I want to watch, especially on the incredibly inconvenient early Friday timeslots.

Hey, got some good news, Nielson finally (gasp!) counts VCR's into its ratings now. Here's a quote from the Nielsen VP of MarCom:

--------------------------------------------------
http://www.adage.com/news.cms?newsId=35685

“” . . . However, a Nielsen spokeswoman pointed out. . . “When we go into a metered home, we connect our equipment to every piece of television or video equipment we find there," said Anne Elliot, vice president of marketing communications. . . .
. . . “For instance, right now with traditional VCRs, we have automatically credited the program as it was recorded in the home. That amount of the VCR recording goes into our initial rating. . . .””
--------------------------------------------------

What this means, is that if I decide to tape Farscape and watch Firefly at the same time, Nielsen will count both of them as being watched by my household! Uh, that is, if I have a Nielsen box, survey, or pager.

However, If I simultaneously watch and tape Firefly, Nielsen only counts once. No double-counting allowed.

A couple of main Farscape websites were concerned about this as well. No one wanted to hurt another science fiction program. A few scapers who work in the media industry took time to confirm this and are spreading the word around. http://www.watchfarscape.com

If any January deal is struck between the 3 million Firefly and 1.5 million Farscape fans to watch/support each other's shows for ratings' sake, many of us will be ready.
Thanks!
