I've been watch Summer's new show with my dad, last night he asked the question "did they pick her because she was such a bad actress that she acted like a cyborg, or because she was good enough to pull off the transition to human?". I haven't watched FF/S for a while (got too much other stuff backed up to watch/play/read/listen to), so I ask you all, which episode (preferably a fairly stand-alone one) has Summer's best acting?

Now I suspect that many of you will simply say "have him watch the whole series" or "why haven't you had him watch the whole series yet?", the problem is that neither of my parents are good with TV, I tried showing them the pilot once and my mom read through the whole thing while my dad surfed the net through the whole thing (that's what they usually do while they're "watching" TV). Because of that I've pretty much not bothered to try to convert them again, but now I've got another shot and my dad might actually pay attention this time.

I would go for Objects in Space or Ariel probably Objects in Space but if your parents haven't seen the movie then I'd go for that since I think Summer's acting progressed since the series and is more professional not to say it wasn't bad in Firefly just she got a bit better with experience. I've managed to get my whole family to watch Serenity when it came out in cinema while we on holiday despite that I'd never seen Firefly at the time. Whereas with Firefly I managed to get my brother, sister, & Mum to watch it they all enjoyed it. But my Dad isn't much of a TV guy plus he didn't think to highly of Serenity and he doesn't get that much time coming home after 6pm plus half the time he watches TV is at night so I haven't managed to get him to watch any of Firefly.

For River acting most human, I'd think Safe. But all of the cast said their jaws dropped the first time they heard River's exchange with Badger, so maybe Shindig is the one.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Her 'found me broken' scene in Safe makes me cry every time, even though I've seen it dozens of times. It's also an episode that features her quite a bit. Objects in Space might also be a good one for her acting, but I wouldn't have a 'verse newbie watch that one first. She was amazing in Shindig, but I don't think there was enough of her.

I don't think that being cautiously ashamed, or selectively ashamed, or in any way ashamed of who I am is any way to live my life.

If I had to choose one piece of acting by Summer, which is very difficult, seeing as I think her performance as River was the best of any Whedon actor or actress, I would go for the monologue to Jubal Early in 'Objects in Space' where she says she's become the ship.
