Ummm...I'm confused. Isn't that the same weekend he's scheduled to be in Phoenix at this con? http://nerdvana.freedomblogging.com/2007/12/22/a-little-serenity-at-co

Did they clone him when I wasn't looking?

It looks like he will be in Phoenix and in Orlando on the same weekend. It isn't impossible with today's technology, but I bet he'll be very tired if it does work and in the winter time depending on planes to be there on time sounds like a bad plan.

Ah. Looks like he's canceled the Phoenix appearance.

Guess that means he hasn't been cloned yet. Darn.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I thought those dates sounded disturbingly familiar.

It is true that Nathan will not be attending the Phoenix Comicon. Due to a mix-up of dates, Nathan was double-booked for both cons. It is important to note that Nathan offered to keep the gentleman’s agreement he made with PJ Haarsma and Matt Solberg when he discovered the conflicting dates, but PJ refused to put his good friend in the position of breaking his signed contract with the FX Show. Everyone involved is deeply disappointed and we apologize for letting the convention attendees down.

PJ Haarsma and Kids Need to Read will still be attending the convention and we hope to meet all of you who are going. We’ll have auctions, give away free buttons and we’ll still have our panel without our star. We may not have an overflow audience, but we’ll have fun all the same. Please stop by to learn more about our organization’s efforts to help foster a love for reading among young children.

Squee!!!!!!! *fangirl moment!* He's one of the handful of BDMs I haven't gotten to meet that I wanted to meet most! :D AND THAT CON IS LESS THAN TWO HOURS AWAY!

It is my solemn goal to get all the BDMs' autographs, eventually, on my very pretty blue Serenity poster, which I've had for over a year - I've only gotten 2 so far, though! (Alan and Summer, missed last year's FX Show, or I'd have the good Shepherd's sig, too ). Eventually I'm going to frame it up real pretty with my original ticket stubs from the first theatrical run, and it'll look super-shiny! :D

...any other Firefly/Serenity folks there this year, I wonder? A couple of my favorite Heroes from a certain other series will be there this year, which is nice.

Hey, out of curiosity, are there any folks selling cunning hats at FX this year? I've been wanting one for like, 2 years running now and still haven't got one! Also have been eying the River Triumphant statue, and wondering if I could ever find it cheaper the last day of the con, it's gorgeous but sooo much money! FX generally has a good dealers' room (in fact, the only reasons to go, I've found, is because of the guests, and the wallet-drainer, aka the dealers), but it's so huge, I can only hope to stumble upon things most times, you know?

Such an incentive to finally throw together that River costume now! :D

Hi Emmazule

No other BDH guests as of now but you can keep checking here www.fxshow.com.

Many other great guests as you say, though.

If you're looking for a Jayne hat, they are all over the internet, especially E-Bay. You might even find the statue on Ebay. It might be available in the FX dealer's room too but I don't know about discounted.

It's the best line-up of guests to come to a Fla. show in many years. There are about 12 people I'm looking forward to meeting....and no, I don't mean Peter Mayhew either. He's become a regular fixture at Fla sci-fi cons lately, but he mostly hangs outside chain-smoking ciggys.

Captain, I can just imagine you at the head of a looooong line going "...and this one is for my friend Bill, he loves your work.....and this one is for my friend Sam, she thinks you're the greatest...and this one..."

Snicker, yes Captain I will be taking up a bit of Nathan's time (what a hardship, looking into those blue eyes...as they glaze over from all the requests). I was thinking of doing the autographs in a couple of stages. And actually FX Show has a great system, you get a number, go about your business then come back when your number is ready or after that. Makes for much shorter waits AND you don't have to stand there all day!

Hey FFG.....was that a great show or what?! I started a thread earlier today about my Nathan encounters and some of the other guests. Browncoats were certainly NOT disappointed! I really cannot believe the time and efforts Nathan put into this show...he was just amazing! When we left yesterday, my wife whispered to me that she can never have sex with me again! Were you sitting in the audience during the panel? Some of the questions were good & some were lame. I thought Nathan did a great job of keeping things upbeat and hysterical.

JS I totally forgot to look for you at the con :(

Yes, Nathan did pretty much take charge of the panel. I think Brenden carried that "remarkable" thing waaaay too long.

But yeah, it was a great con. Most of the guests you could spend time talking to.

Here's my Nathan report. If you're in the 76th, this is a repeat.

He called me “sweetness” but I’m getting a little ahead of myself.

FX Show in Orlando, was scheduled the same weekend as ChattaCon in Tennessee and so I was the only member of the 76th Battalion to make it to FX Show, where Nathan Fillion was one of the guests.

I wore my uniform on Saturday and as I waited online to be let in I wondered if some of the new show stars attending like Greg Grunberg of Heroes or Brad Beyer of Jericho would get all the attention.

Once allowed into the room, FX show is one large room, I had my answer. There was already a long line for Nathan started by the folks who had purchased passes that allowed early entry. Other star’s tables were not so crowded yet and I busied myself wandering around collecting some other autographs since Nathan hadn't shown up yet.

FX show uses a "virtual line” which works well when implemented in a timely manner. The idea is that you get a ticket with a number on it and every so often you check back and see if your number is listed on the board. You can get online anytime after your number is listed. That way, there are generally no more than 20 or so people waiting at any one time. The “virtual line” did not start for Nathan right away for some inexplicable reason.

I could tell when Nathan arrived, because there was thunderous applause, and after Nathan said something there was much laughter.

A few other guest lines had begun to elongate, George Takei for one. I went over to Nathan's line and patiently waited my turn. I chatted with other Browncoats, gave out some information on the 76th and met up with some folks I usually run into at the Orlando conventions.

There were about seven people excluding myself, who had sent me money, and/or items for Nathan's autograph. I decided a couple of items at a time would be best since then I'd have an "excuse" to see him more than just once. Plus, I didn't want to scare him to death with a ton of stuff to sign.

Nathan was very cordial and spent a bit of time with everyone. When my turn came, he looked up and said "we've met before." I managed a "yes at Dragon con." And he replied, "remind me of your name." I said "Aleta". My arms were full with two large posters, and I laid them down and Nathan asked "okay, what do we got."? I told him who he was signing what for, and as he signed I asked him when he was going to call Joss and find out about a sequel. He jokingly replied." As soon as I finish this autograph." I teased back and said "I would appreciate that." As I gathered the items Nathan had his arms out “helping” and asked "do you have that" I said, “I think so” and I walked to find a spot to safely put everything away.

I got some more autographs. I also spent some time shopping all the dealers. I ran into a friend of Archimedes Kitten who came down for the show and Nathan. She and I spent time talking Firefly and Nathan and Browncoaty type stuff.

Towards late afternoon, I decided to make my second trip to Nathan's table for more signing. The wait was shorter now that they had the virtual line going. I was hanging back waiting for the people in front of me to move on when Nathan looked up and said "come on up sweetness." Okay, I know he only called me sweetness because he didn't remember my name but Nathan can call me sweetness anytime his heart desires. There was less juggling this time, since it was only 8 x 10 photos and a comic I had for him to sign. He signed them all. "Stay shiny” which was a bummer, but not much you can do, I guess. Although on the comic cover Nathan signed "I know you can't read". Can't wait to see what the Browncoat in Arkansas thinks of that when he gets in the mail.

The FX staff was very liberal about photos. You could take as many as you wanted of Nathan but you just couldn't ask to pose with him. The staff would even let you move closer if there was room. I imagine the rules were the same for the other busy guests but as you can see in my post, many of the guests had plenty of time and didn't mind posing for photos with you at all.

The only panel with Nathan was scheduled for Sunday so after getting those last autographs from Nathan, I headed to the hotel.

On Sunday, the virtual line system was instituted right away. I grabbed my ticket and then walked around some more waiting for my number to come up. I was in civilian attire that day, which was totally backwards since I planned to give Nathan his certificate as an honorary 76th member.

My number was posted on the board, and I took my place online. I was getting my photo of Nathan and I from Dragon Con 2004 signed. Then I planned to present him with the certificate making him an honorary member.

I met up with another Browncoat, Chris who “runs” www.SerenityStuff.com. His wife turns Barbie and Ken dolls into BDH’s and Chris showed Nathan the Mal doll his wife made. Nathan loved it and he began having a shoot out with a little Lego Mal someone had given him earlier.

I was up after Chris and his sons and when Nathan saw me, he said. "Are you back again Aleta?" (sigh, he remembered my name). After he signed my photo I brought out the 76th book I put together with the certificate printed by Captain Zephyr and an 8 x 10 of the 76th group prior to the parade at Dragon*Con. I also included a 76th crest pin and the story of how the 76th came to be. I told Nathan, we were making him an honorary member. He looked through the book and said he really liked it. I also mentioned if he came to Dragon*Con and wanted to march with us, if he let us know “we” (meaning the Colonel) would have a browncoat ready for him.
