We need your presence on the Universal HD Forums. Universal seems to be responding to our demands...HAHAHA! I'm reposting some info from fellow Browncoat and Uni-HD site Moderator "Cordrone" in the hopes that it serves as a little inspiration to go register.

Cordrone posted...

Ni Howdy fellow Browncoats! In case anyone had not heard the Shiny folks over at the Universal HD channel have picked up the BDS for another full run starting in a little over a month. The show was not originally scheduled to be picked up again after it's airing in 2007 but the influx of fans and traffic to the Universal HD Firefly Fans forum I've been told basically caused the Universal VPs to rethink that position. (My source for this information is the Universal_HD site Admin "A shiny Browncoat in his own right" who I now communicate with frequently since becoming a Moderator for those forums. No pay but the inside info is well worth it!!)

Anyway, Firefly will be re-aired in a weekly format like a normal series and will be shown in its proper order all in HD.

And a little more...

The Admin there reports weekly to some Universal VP's and he brings our Browncoat desires and stories directly to those folks during his planning meetings with them.

This is the main reason I'm so very adamant about Browncoats joining the site, posting, and such. The folks there can actually SEE us and have been responsive, on a smaller scale, to what we want. It is my notion that they will respond on a LARGER scale if there are more users there. As of 5 mins or so ago there are ONLY 1,736 registered users on the Universal boards and of those 1,736 users approx 1,500 are Browncoats (I'm user #176 and have been keeping count sorta from there). that's not enough for the Universal folks to say... "You know the fan base for this show/movie is big enough that I think it warrants us to invest in a sequel."

However, if there are 10,000 screaming Browncoats then that's a different story! I know that with all the fan sites out here in the black that numbers like that are easy to meet. You need not have HD to join the boards folks! http://boards.nbcuni.com/universalHD/index.php?showforum=4

Thanks for your time folks!

This is a happy development. =)

But I'm a little confused about the financials, in regards to a sequel and the UHD forum.

If 10,000 screaming fans two years ago on the official Universal Serenity forum weren't enough to get the movie to do anything better than disappointingly (and barely) breaking even at the box office, how can 10,000 screaming fans on a new forum convince any profit oriented VP to consider a sequel?

The economy certainly isn't in an up-swing.

So what am I missing? Anyone have any idea? What's the angle? Is it the merely awesome profits from the DVDs?

That's right FForama. This is an easy and FREE way to let Universal know that we really are out here in the black and we want more of the 'Verse.

At the same time I know some folks are coin-poor or just tired of spending their money without getting our sequel. I understand that logic but this here is free and not even time consumin'. If we Browncoats can't put a right good hurtin' on the Universal boards in terms of just registering and posting from time to time then how can we call Universal idiots for not making a sequel?

They have given us a shiny FREE place to show up and speak our peace and tell'em what we want from them. If we don't show up in full force then who but ourselves (and Fox) do we have to blame?

I missed the boat on the TV show. I missed the boat on the movie while it was in theaters. I'm on the boat now though, finally, and I aim to misbehave and do some rockin' GORRAMIT!

Peace,
- Cord

Hell's Kitten,

Serenity did not do well at the box office. True.

Since the release of the Serenity DVD, they have not been able to keep it on the shelves. That is why they made the Collector's Edition.

This interview with Joss gives me hope for a sequel.

First off I'd love to think we can get more than 10,000 since there were already 10,000 2 years ago. 10,000 really ought be the low number since there are now more 'Verse fans than ever before. I know this because I'm one of them and I've gone about converting many others.

Second, I think the movie did as poorly as it did because of one very important factor most folks forget... Serenity was released at the worst possible time it could have been. That is to say it was released on September 30th, 2005 just a month after Hurricane Katrina sank the south eastern half of the US into the Gulf of Mexico. Not only were folks still recovering from the storm itself and the resulting flooding (I had flooding from the storm and I live in New Jersey!) but the entire country (if not the globe) was being gouged mercilessly by the gas companies. The cost of everything went through the roof and your average movie goer didn't have the coin to go see a movie based on a canceled TV show with no A-list stars in it. I wanted to go but times were just too tight for me and my family and DVD's come out so fast after a movies run it's not even that long of a wait. I blew it, I waited

That's not going to happen this time around. Firefly and Serenity fans have felt that ever so familiar sting again and with all the new Browncoats I doubt any fans would miss the BigDamnSequel and 90% will find a way to make sure they see it several times. (I know I will - hell I'll buy tickets for strangers if I have too!)

Why the Universal HD boards? Well they are showing Firefly, it's Universal, and for the most part it's a nothin' site. By nothin' site I mean is pretty much a calm surface of water that, if we make a big enough splash in it, the ripple effects will be felt that much farther and will be directly attributed to us as Browncoats. (We are already the main fan base with well over 90% of all users being Browncoats.)

As for the economy of things in the industry I think that actually helps more than hurts us. Serenity cost $40,000,000 to make (not a large budget by motion picture standards) whcih means Joss has proven that he can make a quality film on a lean budget (a good thing in these times). While theaters sales were not great (for reason already stated) DVD sales have shown that there is, or at least was, a large and lucrative market for the Serinverse. Because of DVD sales, TV runs, Internet distribution and the like that base is now even larger (always good). The stars of the movie are now also more well known than before but not so famous as to be charging huge sums of money (also a good thing if your the company producing the movie). However the producers are still left with a very fundamental question... "It's been a long while... Are people still interested in a sequel to Serenity?" That's where we come in. If we can get enough folks to join the Universal HD boards then the Admin will be taking that shiny info right to his VP. It ought to get some folks to at least consider doing another Serenity project. All we have to do is et some folks to really give it another once over and I think they will see it's a viable project worthy of their continued investment.

Peace,
- Cord

Actually, while I believe there are several reasons Serenity didn't do well, Hurricane Katrina is the reason I didn't make it to the theater. And I was nowhere near the devastation.
My husband's company sent him down to Mississippi and Louisiana to help with the clean-up while I stayed home and tried to manage two kids on my own. Going to see a movie was the furthest from my mind.
And I was an original Firefly fan.

ETA: I'm already signed up at Uni-HD but I went to digg it too. I was only #7 though. At this rate it's not likely to make it to the front page.

28,000 up from the start of 1,700... Yha, I'm thinking they'ed notice all right and it's EXACTLY the sort of thing the shiny Admin would LOVE to be able to say at his staff meetings!

That's the whole notion. When he mentioned in a PM that he has weekly staff meetings with Universal VPs where he has to give a report that's what got my engines turning. It's humdrum to most, stats on registration and activity and such, but I seen it as a great opportunity for Browncoats. And it worked! Last season Universal HD was ready to end it's run of Firefly because it's license was up on the show. However, when 1,000 Browncoats showed up in their little scrap of No and Where that was the Uni-HD boards they did a 180. Instead they picked the show up again for another season and here we are.

With Operation Full Burn I want to build on that earlier success and replicate it 50 fold to demonstrate to Universal that they are missing out on a very profitable product in the form of a Serenity Sequel. I want to have numbers there so large that they are pretty much forced into seeing the business opportunity they are missing. That is the notion anyway.

You depend on luck, you end up on the drift, no Firefly, no Serenity 2.

That ain't us.

Not ever.

There's obstacles in our path, and we're going to deal with them. One by one.

That's the notion POTV. One by one couldn't be more correct. One Browncoat at a time that is.

Each Browncoat here helps us march ever closer to the point where someone up the chain will be forced, as a matter of not neglecting their job of making money, to act and at least begin the serious thinking of making a sequel.

This is but the first step for us... yet it is the most critical. To boot it's both free and easy to do so we've got no excuse to fail at it. This is our shiny opportunity to prove what we've all been sayin' for a long time... "Now, more than ever, there are more Firefly and Serenity fans and our numbers can, and will, support a sequel!" So lets do it already!

I don't know the numbers for sure, but my guess is we got about 400+ more to sign up.I think Cordrone would know better, hopefully he will see this and respond. The current # is 2230 members, I think we started with 1735. Cordrone feels that some of the new people might not be Browncoats.

Please come over to the UNI board, the Mod is reporting to UNI on a weekly basis, we need numbers!!! Thank You:)
