OK, we've gone through the favorite Mal and Jayne quotes, enough of the lightweight stuff.
Now let's see what are the fave of our most intriguing character, River.

Also, I can kill you with my brain.

"Doesn't matter! It'll still be there....waiting!"

(That line, plus a new addition the BSR, makes me wonder - was there something about Book's hair that reminded River of her recent past? *starts making fanficcish notes*)

You know, it's an oddness - even though River is clearly one of the focal characters on the show, she really doesn't say much, except for a few episodes like 'Safe'

"Stupid son of a bitch, dressing me up like a gorram doll!"

and OiS. There's a great deal more quotes regarding River by the rest of the gang. Curious....

It really was. I laughed so hard when she said it. I think Summer did an excellent job of delivering it. I could actually picture River's mind working to figure out the little person inside.

Um... Well, there's the obvious ones, but those aren't my favorites. I like those slighty obscure ones, like

It's just an object. It doesn't mean what you think.

Call me if anyone interesting comes along.

And I love how she gets all tachno-babbly on this one, wish I could do that

So we'll integrate non-progressional evolution thoery with God's creation of Eden - eleven inherent metaphoric parallels already there. Eleven, important number, prime number, one goes into the house of eleven eleven times but always comes out one

And the days as measurement of solar cycles, not applicable one, I can't recall the exact wording off the top of my head.

And I can't believe that no-one's mentioned these yet:
I swallowed a bug, and
My food is problematic

I think I got carried away with this a little

Ahh, but then there is the classic:

"You are such a boob."

RF, I'd suggest you check out some of Schooner's stories - he's got River down cold. I, too, love it when she does her human scientific calculator bit, and Schooner did this one short story where she dabbled in the culinary arts - it was a RIOT! Oh, and 'River's Letter to Santa' deserves to become a classic. (Schooner, you listening? I'm plugging you, dude.... )

Everything from the Our Ms. Reynolds Deleted Scene is great (my favorite scene).

"Two by two, we want a match made, double, I love you"
I want to use this someday

"The captain took a wife"

"We'll take care of each other-I'll knit."

"Now we have to be married, we have a family in the way."

Famous quote no one has mentioned:
"Bullet in the brain pan-squish."

I wonder if we can quote her various screaming scenes.

I have always been a fan of the line
"No power in the verse can stop me." The way that line is delivered is ominous and kinda nonchalant.

Even though it is not a quote, the look she gives Simon after he asks "Am I talking to Miranda now?" always makes me smile

Zoe: "Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?

Book: "Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."

I think the scripted line for that response was "I'm not a double, dumbo." Her look carries it off, tho.

Not to be nitpicky again, but that's NOT a River quote. I know it's in one of the shooting scripts, but in actuality River just does her "Two by two, hands of blue" thingy.

Not to be the bad guy all the time, but just doing something right in absentia of doing something smart. :) The correct text is:

SIMON
What?!!

RIVER:
Two by two?! Everyone a match, a mate, a doppel. I love you (not 'double', but 'doppel', as in 'doppelgänger').

And, I'm sorry, but that whole "Now we have to be married, we have a family in the way." is nowhere in that deleted scene.

Yeah, she says: "Now we have to be married, I'm in the family way." I guess I was being a bit petty about it. :) Shouldn't have said it's nowhere in the scene: it is, just not in that exact wording. Sometimes I go a little overboard. :)

The above quote is so horrific, because you can feel how her madness and her pain are getting too great even for her. (Her face takes on a weird, morbid look of ecstacy when she says "squish" that just tears my heart out.)

I also vote for her entire soliloquy to Jubal Early.

And from the end of BDM: "I do. But I like to hear you say it."

The relationship between River and Mal is poignantly summed up in that line, and I always felt that relationship was one of the most beautiful in the whole story.

I love it, everyone here loves River and the show and the movie. And everyone notices different thing. I have been through 45 post, smiling and warm in side. River is my favorite character of all time, actually. So it goes with out saying that every River quote is a pearl to me. The amazing thing is, my absolute favorite has not been mentioned yet. It is very small and out of context its not even great.

In the opening scene in the BDM:

Mal: "You know your role in all this, little one?
River:"Do you?"

The eye movement of Mal afterwards tops it off.

Also, it was the line that hooked me to ´verse. I am a Serenity then Firefly coaty

That opening scene is SO full of meaning. The haunted, incriminating, judging look Summer gives Nathan is what you call outstanding acting! No to mention Joss getting so much emotion and relationship from such a subtle glance.

I really wish Joss would hae included the comment about the rocks in the BDM, where River is looking over the side of the mule saying how "the rocks have no order, completely random."

It's in the deleted scenes. It shows the mania and intellgence of Summer's character while telling the aidience her brain is truly somewhere else.
