wouldn't it be absolutely cool if they made a Firefly/Serenity Video game.
It would one way of carrying on the story, as long as it was done right and not a rush job.
Maybe a mixture of RPG, third person exploration, space flying sim, third person combat etc...Not just a shitty First Person Shooter that most cool movie/TV titles end up being made into.
The main point is it would have to be multi-platform, not just XBOX360 or just PS3, because if it was just made for one console it would leave out a whole section of fans who would be crying into thier beer!!
Get the original cast and crew involved and you've got the makings of a classic game.
Wouldn't that be SHINY!!!

I for one wouldn't appreciate a MMORPG. 1) I've committed myself to NO online gaming until I complete college. 2)I think the reality of scarcity present in the Verse would not be very appealing in that setting. Most MMORPG's have a ridiculous economic model. WoW, from what I've heard, devolves into a trading game once you surpass a certain level. 3)If Joss isn't involved in pretty much any mission that adds to or deals with the cannon of the Verse people will be very turned off.

My two cents

I couldn't agree more, These MMORPG's sound like a bunch of people running around shooting eachother!
There wouldn't be much scope for a storyline as such, which is one of the things I watch Firefly for, it also wouldn't have the original cast's acting talent, which is the biggest thing I watch Firefly for.
It wouldn't exactly carry on the Firefly story, it would just be a game that features cultural references from the 'verse.
No, they should make a game with Capt. Mal and the others, it could be set just before Serenity, just after Serenity, just before or even during Firefly. Then us fans might have something to cheer about!
And like you said, if Joss isn't involved somewhere, we're not going to like it!

Take care bud!

I'm thinking, I played a game. STV:EF (sorry, but it is probably the kind of idea that you're on about)

Basically, in it you play as part of an elite security team, you get to wander all over the ship (within the plotline) and the storyline goes on as you complete certain objectives (i.e. you get back from a mission, have to be checked out by the doc before you can relax, chat with people and then get briefed for your new mission)

Now, this idea is a good one to include in the game I feel, a plotline that you get to follow as was so rightly said, it's a way to keep on telling the story!

Also, I love another game, X3: Reunion. For those of you who haven't played it, it's a space sim, where you have to fly around and both keep yourself alive as well as follow a plotline involving invasion etc. You start off with quite literally the basics, and you have to make money in order to improve your chances of survival against an ever increasing threat. The great thing about this is that the plotline can be ignored for as long as you want. You are free to drop in and out of it at any time (with the exception of during a mission of course). You do have to buy your own weapons, shields etc.. which gives me another idea:

You have to keep an eye on the credit fund and supply levels, including ammo and food. This also allows for you to buy yourself shiny new guns.

Combine this with an idea from Rainbow Six, where you can set a plan up pre-mission for each team to go in a specific way and do certain actions at certain points, and even on command. This would me an that you can buy your own weaponry, you can plan missions yourselves (such as in the pilot when Mal sent Jayne to take out the snipers and do some himeself) as well as having the story continued.

Obviously, I haven't explained this as well as I could, but this is more of a rushed job as 'm just trying to get the basic idea over. One thing I will say is that I personally think that the whole flying Serenity bit won't be too brilliant, as personally I don't much want to be flying her 3rd person and the pilot gets a good view, but it wouldn't be that terrificly exciting (except for maybe such situations as the massive battle between the Alliance and the Reavers)

Anybody who disagrees with any of this violently can do so. But no matter what you do, "You can't take the sky from me".

I can see what you mean about flying the serenity 3rd person, yes the pilot would have a better view.
You've got some good ideas there concerning pre-mission set-ups and such like.
I'm thinking along the lines of "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" meets "Splinter Cell".
There should be an overall plotline underlying everything, but with the 'go anywhere, do anything' philosophy.
Mal and his crew taking (or not taking, if you prefer) criminal and legal jobs to buy fuel, ammo and food, etc.

I think a great model for the game to follow would be the Mega Man Legends series. You get all sorts of interaction but yet still have to complete missions and the such. With Blu Ray technology you could fit one big 'verse onto a 50GB disc.

Well, i cant say i'd prefer a mmorpg over a new BDM or series. But hey, if its free, and actually a decent game, i'll have no problems with that.

I'm really not a fan of MMORPGs. Why not an RPG more in the vein of games like Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect? I think a Firefly game like that would be great.

But alas...
