Just got back from a promising job interview(or so I thought until it actually happened).

Interviewed by a handful of people, with odd questions like "What do you think this company owes you?", and "Define service value"!

Seriously, those were just some of the zingers they threw at me. I just drew a blank, because the questions were for the most part oddly worded. Weird interview. I seriously thought I was being punked!

Most employment relationships begin with a foundation of lies and contridictions. They want you to think "out of the box" but you can have only 7 effective habits. They say they want you to have an arangement that is mutual and fulfilling but then hit you with a question like what they owe you in an attempt to intimidating you into lower pay. They say they value you as a person, then encourage you to read Who Moved my Cheese to let you know your behavior needs modified or you will be like a rodent.

The best job I ever had was the one with the strangest interview.

After meeting with the gentleman who would be my supervisor I was introduced to John. Thats all the information I was given about him at the time. Were left alone.

John looks at my resume and sees I like to read. He askes me what I read. I tell him mainly history. Then he asks me what history books I have read. I tell him about the two most recent history books I have read. Then he asks me what I think about the authors and what I thought was important about the books and if I liked them. John blasted me with these questions. I would no more than answer one and he would rapidly ask another question. After answering all these questions, John thanks me and leaves.

My original interviewer returns and tells me they will contact me in a few days to tell me if I got the job.

Turns out John is the president of the company. He has studied history in college. And he was impressed with the answers I gave him about the books I've read. In other words, I got the job.

I wish I had that job today, but the company went under.

You can never tell if an interview is good or bad unless you really screw it up. I was certain I was not going to get that job, but I worked there for eleven years.

I have to interview ppl all the time for jobs, and we were recently informed by our HR dept that we would have to conduct 'behavioral interviewing'.

This involves giving the candidate scenarios and seeing how they would react/respond to them. It's supposed to give you an idea of how they would 'behave' in the position they're applying for.

It's pretty much all rubbish. Someone who's smart enough can game the interview and then spend all day surfing the net. And you can have someone who's a genius and would perform great in the job who just is lousy at interviews. After a while, you realize that much like everything else in life, it's a crapshoot.

OMG! I thought my company was the only one to "request" that all of its employees read that! And we had to read it on our own personal time, not during work hours. We have to fit in 17 hours of stuff like that on our own time EVERY year.
