Well, I can't find a soul recording device, but here's a soul if HK doesn't want it.

As for the ponder, I would really, really like to kill my LA teacher. She's a stupid, petty little b*tch! We are studying Longfellow right now, and she put us in these little groups to dicuss it. I complained to the friend that happened to be in my gruop that this was stupid, and she gave me a detention! She does the same kind of thing to everyone. It would definately be a public serice to everyone in my school if somebody killed her.

Well in my experience that's not too unexpected. Calling a teacher's lesson plan stupid is grounds for punishment. Next time just be sure she can't hear you say it.

as for manga, there are a lot of decent online sites where you can read all sorts of scanslations... i usually go to them to see if i'm going to like a book or story before i shell out the cashy money for it. i could try to find you some links, if you'd like....

Detentions are serious things, and I think they go on your record permenently. She shells them out like candy. And just saying something shouldn't get you a detention. It gets you lectured at a little, but not a detention. And the same with homework. She shells out detentions if you don't have your homework completely done! You're just supposed to get 0's on it, not detentions!

uh aren't there plenty more parties? I thought there was even stuff like a communist party and stuff on the ballot. Sure they're a complete joke, but they're there. I think the libertarian party is the closest to a third party these days. You can always drop a vote their way.

It wasn't all that long ago that Ross Perot had a darn good shot of winning as a third party candidate before he showed what a flake he is by dropping out and then re-entering the race.

yeah we have multi parties but because of the way we are ...we just ignore all the other parties... so defacto 2 party system

RF- I wouldn't have given you detention, but I would have been pretty ticked... group work has been shown to increase comprehension for students. So that's probably why she's doing it...

1999 was a good year. Graduating high school. Going on to start a computer science degree when the tech bubble was still going strong. Hearing about all the money people were making. Life was good.

4 years later not nearly as good an outlook. I was born too late!

SPOILED

IF you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

******************

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious
diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what
with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning .. uphill BOTH
ways ...
through year 'round blizzards. Carrying their younger siblings on
their backs ... to their one-room schoolhouse, where they maintained a
Straight-A average, despite their full-time, after-school job at the
local textile mill . where they worked for 35 cents an hour just to
help keep their family from starving to death! And I remember
promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was
going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it
and how easy they've got it!

But now that...

I'm over the ripe old age of thirty something, I can't help but look
around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy!

I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today don't know how good you've got
it!

I mean, when I was a kid we did not have:

The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn
library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog. The card
catalog is worse than torture why don't you research it on the
Internet!!

There was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter on
paper with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street
and put it in the mailbox and if it got there in less than a week you
were lucky!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to
hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you
had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd
usually talk over the beginning and messed it all up - DAMN I hated
that!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone
and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! Have you
ever heard a busy signal on an old rotary phone? That's why we are
losing our hearing so early! What do you mean you don't know what a
rotary phone is?

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang,
you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your
boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just
didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with
high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like
"Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ! Your guy
was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And
there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen
forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder
and harder and faster and faster until you died! .
Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium
seating!
All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad
with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just
screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15
channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had
to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You
were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your
rear and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no
Cartoon Network either!
You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm
saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little
bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up ...
we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire -- imagine that!
If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid JiffyPop thing and
shake it over the stove forever like an idiot. That's exactly what I'm
talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.

You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

Fun read MSB. Can't say I was actually from that era with my upbringing. I think we were about ten years (at least) behind but hey, I do miss making real popcorn and we don't have stadium seating locally.

Hiya guys!

Heheee...that's pretty funny, MSB.

When I was little, I was my brother's remote control. When a show ended, he'd sit there until I got up to change the channel. Stubborn ass that he was, he'd sit there watching the news because I refused to always be the one changing the channel.

I also learned to dread commercials because he'd beat me up during them. We'd be all sitting there calmly watching Emergency! and a commercial would come on and it was pow, pow, pow...oh wait, the show's back on. Think kids these days who can Tivo themselves through commercials will ever experience that? :D

On the subject of fictional heroes: I was looking at the men I saw as displaying hero qualities on film. My favorites include: Nathan Fillion(duh), Adam Baldwin(double duh), Charles Bronson, Tom Laughlin, Steve McQueen, Jean Reno, Sam Jackson, Sonny Chiba, Richard Roundtree, Adam Beach, Eric Schweig, Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, and Toshiro Mifune. I remember seeing Mifune in Red Sun with Charles Bronson and as a kid saying , Wasn't he in Seven Samurai? And Charlie Bronson was in Magnificent Seven." It clicked that they were in the same movie after they were in similar movies. Mifune as Kikuchiyo, a brash and undisciplined Samurai (who we find out is no Samurai at all) cracks me up. So tough and hardcore yet he has no trouble hanging out with the village children then attempting to whip the villagers into fighting form. Though the characters are more composited in Magnificent Seven, I believe Charles Bronson fills two SS characters, Kikuchiyo being one of them.

Not sure what I'm actually rambling about. Just that our heroes tend to have this soft and funny side more than the heroes of others.

Just wanted to say that.

I'm hanging in there. Nursing some injuries, but I suppose on the bright side, pain makes you know you're alive. Haven't seen much of my house lately, but that's not bad because I haven't had heat for almost two months. I really do need to get that fixed.

I've been obsessive lately about Veronica Mars. Such an amazingly excellent show. And while it was cancelled, there is some joy knowing that there are three (mostly good) seasons to re-watch. There isn't quite the heartbreak of Firefly, but I still want more. My obsessive streak being what it is, I even bought the soundtrack. Good stuff.

How's about you?

Finished it all. Season 3 wasn't comparable to 1 and 2 (one was definitely the best...how often does that happen?), but was still enjoyable. It was better than most TV out there, so.... I'm almost finished with Season 1 again and will make my way through all of it. It's sad that the FBI pitch didn't work. It looks like it could'be been an interesting direction.

I didn't see anything wrong with Veronica in season 3. Well except for thinking there was any reason to still give Logan a chance and that she ever dated that Pez kid. She had to be able to find someone better than those guys.

It was the overall plot of Season 3 that didn't do it for me. The mysteries were weak. Some stuff just didn't even work. The first big mystery would have had national attention. Yet even the campus didn't seem to care. That was dumb.

The only real redeeming quality was the smokin hot dean's wife. She was just yummy :-)

Hehee.

MSB...if you haven't seen VM, you should. It is VERY good.

And Logan is suppose to only be 16-19 on the show. That's WRONG. The actor is older, though not by much, but I hate to say it...me likey the character. Cute-ish, tortured, rapier wit. Just my type. Not so much your's, ...but you could probably still appreciate the show).

I work with half and half really. My team has some technical people (all men) and some documentation writers (all women). Not really true there's one dude but he work remotely so I've never even seen him. Plus I've had 3 managers in my 4 years with this company and they've all been women. So, I guess you could say that tips the balance and I work with more women than men. And yes all the drama is either two or more women at each other's throat or a woman and man at each other's throats. All the guys get along fine. Therefore I think we should make a sweeping general statement that women don't belong in the workplace

*runs home for the weekend*

(Laughs and points as Zeek runs for his life)

Can't say it would be any better working with guys. Had to hear a table full of manly men (line workers at a local truss production factory) whine like little girls about their boss and how their bums are being rode like a sway back pony. Funny part: the one riding them is a five foot tall woman. Yay for her! These are some hard to break dudes and she keeps 'em in line and productive regardless of their bitching. I might have to take some pointers from her.

Seems all I am good at is making a few of them cry. :( Boo hoo.

That was in very bad taste, Zeek. Therefore... What should we do to him, girls?

Zeek- guy's birthday is June...so he's still 25

NV- Work with about 75%/25% women/men and I spend all my time with the guys... not a huge fan of women bosses ( I've never had one that wasn't difficult, prickly, and frustrating ) I'd rather work with guys... easier

Rugbug...HUGS
