Think I'd Rather be a Cowboy.

Being of a certain age, I remember the great days of TV Cowboys, Hop-a-long Cassidy, The Lone Ranger, Suger Foot, Colt 45, Larado and most important of all, Rango.

These were the shows of simplistic view and straight talking men, who meant just what they said and did the right thing, because it was the right thing.

On TV today we have morally ambiguous heels in the leading roles, likely as not.

Considering the ending of The Train Job, I wonder what Joss is really trying to bring back.

Are you old enough for your memory to be going?

Or are you just applying a filter? I seem to remember quite a few unsavory types being glorified in Westerns, to the point that one could make a case that the general tradition in Westerns is actually to make unsavoriness itself look good.

Rango? Rango??? yasurubetcha, that was a western.

I think Joss is a little later in the history of westerns. Have Gun Will Travel, Branded maybe. Moral men in an immoral world making difficult choices trying to be true to themselves and survive.

And in the later Westerns, the hero is often a Confederate vet who has lost eveything and everyone. Mal wears butternut brown of a reason.

But then, I don't think Mal kicked that guy into the engine on purpose. I think he just meant to knock him down. After all, that has _got_ to be hard on in innards of an engine.

Hey, I'm from Cleveland, Ohio, Chagrin Falls is just around the by-pass.
I thought he tossed the guy into the engine because he may be a nice guy, but he isn't stupid enough to leave a living enemy.

Chagrin Falls, well, that explains Rango anyway. but think of all the fuss when a jet eats a bird now. and that guy was pretty big. and covered in metal doodads.

Mal was trying to give the money back to keep old what's his name off their backs. although, it was a powerful incentive for henchman number 2 to take the money and run. but we all know it wasn't going to work anyway. I predict we are going to hear from what's his name again in a big and messy way (what is his name!?) Mal knows that too, even with out the "you know what reputation is" demo.
