I looked around on the forums and thought it strange noone had ever mentioned this...

Its recently come to my attention that there is an "internal" version of the Firefly dvd set floating around.

Apparently it is a 6 disc version of the boxset, which additionally has an extra doco feature, more interviews of the cast and unfinished shots filmed for episode 15.

Anyways, its odd that I have never seen it on eBay but apparently it was only given to people who worked on the show... anyone know anything more about it?

I'm really interested in this, if it's true...

but please, tell me this isn't the return of baseless teases like the who would post lies about Firefly coming back to TV shortly after it was cancelled....

Not a tease. The only tease is, I don't know the source well enough to borrow the dvds or anything. This is why I asked, and was surprised about the whole thing.

Apparently it was given to people who worked on the show. I promise I am not kidding about this, but it must be one of the best kept secrets as no news, nor bits off it have found their way onto the internet..... I would pay for another dvd if they saw fit to release this thing!

Oh yeah, not revealing my source, because I can't confirm that they wanna be revealed!!!! But its not an insider, just a lucky smegger in the right place at the right time.

I dont know anything about it but I was wondering about even more footage that didnt seem to make it to the DVD - such as all those Internet Featurettes that first appeared on the original FF Website when it was still on FOX. Those short interviews with cast & crew were really cool, and I was dissapointed that they weren't included in the 'official' DVD release.

Ok, I have gotten some more news on the elusive 15th episode of firefly's contents now that my contact has watched the bonus features...

In case it ties with the movie I will spoilerize this...

Select to view spoiler:

So, apparently Simon attempts a lobotomy on River to try and disconnect the modifications that are making her a little loco. Also, it is discovered that Shepherd Book has military medical training, so more layers of that onion slowly peeling back.

So yeah, muchos excitement... now if only I could get my hands on it to watch it myself... grr argh.

Well if that is true, that is REALLY annoying. If it just went one episode longer!! Just one!!

Somehow I doubt it though. They were cancelled while still working on The Message. I think we would know if there was even a 15th script, and we hadn't heard anything about that. I'd like to see the 15th script if there is one, of course. ;)

I was suprised enough that noone had heard of this dvd set, and someone I know (though not well enough to borrow it! dagnabit!) gets a copy of it. He did say it was just excerpts. Maybe I should get him to prove it? Hehe.

Actually, there IS another script - It's called "Dead or Alive" - the focus is pretty much on Mal/Zoe.

Personally, I think someone is yanking our chains (I'm more apt to think the "connection" than the poster...). No way would Simon ever do what the spoiler suggests. Watch the scene in Ariel in the holoimaging suite again.

Dead or Alive was not a 15th script, it was a canned script. Supposedly, it would have come in around Jaynestown. It's an interesting story, but not all the kinks were worked out, and they ended up borrowing much of it for later episodes.

The production number on the "Dead or Alive" script would place it as the episode whose place Jaynestown took. It's interesting to look through and see what elements made it into later episodes. I'll have to do a re-read, but I kept getting "Message" flashbacks while reading it. There was a conversation here a while back mentioning that several more scripts (up to three or four) had been ordered by Fox before they dropped the axe. None of them have leaked out as far as I know, but it makes sense. A television writing schedule is generally a couple weeks ahead of production, so since the cast and crew were notified while "The Message" was filming, there would undoubtedly be other scripts out there.

As for unseen episode 15 footage, it is *possible*, as a show as complex to produce as Firefly would likely have some overlap in its shooting schedule for the more technically complex scenes, so they could rushed off ASAP to the CGI folk. I doubt there would've been more than a few pages of a script's worth that had actually been filmed, though.

Still - interesting to ponder...and desire...but as a wise man once said, "If wishes were horses, we'd all be eatin' steak."
