Doesn't. All it proves is that EvilDead1971 is an idiot.

DARKFLY

Acutally I've read up about this before, its just a few of the people over at NCsoft (creators of Guild Wars) are Browncoats so they named a character after Kaylee but Joss Whedon playing GW doesn't have any relation to this.

More Guild Wars references to Firefly:
Vekka's (some GW character) say's, "I can kill you with my brain" and "Now you're my kind of stupid" are homages to Firefly, the original quote being from River Tam and Malcolm Reynolds.

An item named Vera is a Unique item dropped by Jayne Forestlight in The Eternal Grove (Explorable). This item is a reference to the gun "Vera," owned by the character Jayne Cobb from the television series Firefly.

You can't stop the Sigma. But you can ignore it.

According to Wikipedia, Guild Wars is AF. (Anno Fluffy) 2005; so I'm thinking Joss invented Firefly before he saw/played Guild Wars. :)

That don't mean Joss weren't inspired by nuttin'. Alien 4 leaps to mind (The Betty and crew); and the whole Harper/Wash thingy from Andromeda (which, in one of the earlier episodes, also has a main character called "Kaylee"). Ain't nothing wrong with that, either, btw. It's what binds all great artists: they see the potential for something great in the mundane, whereas others allow it to move on unnoticed.

Well, Joss wrote the original script for Alien4, so I guess it's self-referential rather than plagiarism. (But Ron Perlman is definitely a Cobb - one of the up-country cousins.)

Anyway, you can see Firefly anywhere, you look hard enough. I personally find a lot of oddly familiar things in Torchwood/Dr Who.

And did I read somewhere that some of our BDH's have in-joke voice overs in Halo?

@ASARIAN:

I'm not sure if you're aware that criticizing someone for being rude while at the same time being rude yourself doesn't exactly allow you to retain the "high ground."

I cannot abide baseless conjecture. And jumping from a character in a game named a common enough name to "i think joss played guild wars"...

Quite frankly, the only real thing that could be said about my post was that it as too harsh. Other than that these things really need to be called out for what they are. Everyone saying everyone else's stuff/comments/etc is good, or not saying anything at all, is one of the big problems with (fan) communities i.e. quality goes down the crapper when anything and everything is accepted (as gold). Certainly, if people were more critical (constructively) of incoming stuff we'd have less of it. But, what we have would be of much higher quality. And I'm the type of person who values quality over quantity.

And yes, everything I've been involved in, FF/S or not, I've actively sought (and given) input at every turn. It has certainly improved the quality of the output and helped mitigate "feature creep." We all have "neural misfires" from time to time. To think and work otherwise is rather... unwise.

At any rate, I've digressed and need sleep.

LOL. I said:

"You can't stop the Sigma. But you can ignore it."

I was shooting you... politely. Which is what happens when you call a fellow Browncoat an idiot. If you can't take a polite retort like that, best not lash out with the uncivil tongue then, come next round.

The whole point of name calling is that it ain't appropriate. Your sad rationale here is self-defeating: if you want higher quality posts, write higher quality posts.

To your first part: um. okay..be unnecessarily pompous.
To that second part: welcome to the real world, that happens way more often than you'd think. Too bad everyone isn't as smart and sophisticated as you @_@ so much for being civil.

Perhaps "politely" where you come from, but certainly not where I come from. People here aren't referred to as "it".

The whole point of name calling is that it ain't appropriate. Your sad rationale here is self-defeating: if you want higher quality posts, write higher quality posts.

Which is where the idea of "I agree with what you said but not how you said it comes in." What you did was being rude back. Which is rather "school-yard" in and of itself. This is why the "tit for tat" argument that you propose here doesn't work. You're also continuing along this line with your "sad rationale" comment. You've quickly lost the "high ground" with how you're arguing your point and I don't think that you are aware of that.

(NOTE: I've already admitting that calling him/her an idiot wasn't right. So, why you're continuing along those lines is rather beyond me.)

Also, whether I post "higher quality posts" or not has nothing to do with what I've seen on this board for the past couple years. In fact, I've seen the quality of discussion go down significantly since just before the movie entered theatres. To be certain, whether I've posted rudely (the exception) or posted politely (the vast majority of the time), has nothing to do with the response I've gotten. The response only has to do with whether the majority agrees with what I've had to say and/or how I said it. Well, that and probably if the person has had a bad day or not.

My point isn't actually "self-defeating" in the way you think it is. I'm talking about what a well functioning community must do to be well functioning community. Which is true no matter who says it. You could call me a (temporary) hypocrite for saying it, but that doesn't mean that the point is false.

For your logic to be true, my posts must consistently be rude, not the exception being rude. And my history on this site over the years I've been here tell of the latter, not the former. If you want a good example, go back and take a look at my involvement in the "Organize the Revolution". You know, the ones that ended up producing:

http://newsoftheverse.net/
http://www.bigdamnzine.com/

Basically, if you want to continue with this "I'll get you back for what you've said/how you've said it" attitude (ignoring my admission of it being rude), then I'd appreciate you just plain stop responding to my posts. Because it makes you exactly what you're apparently fighting against. And that certainly is NOT the definition of civil.

You miss my point... completely. It has exactly nothing to do with my being or not being "smart and sophisticated" relative to others (here). Please see my "well functioning community" and the "becoming what your fighting against" comments to Asarian.

Quite frankly, the only person in this thread that responded appropriately to my, admittedly rude, comment to EvilDead1971 was EvilDead1971. This speaks very well about the level in which (s)he is working on. So, kudos to him/her. Everyone else attacked (or ended up doing so). Which does (and should) get a wag of the finger.

I'll also mention that after that first post I backed off and admitted my being rude. Yet I get this after doing so. Perhaps you guys are inappropriately applying the tone of my first post in this thread to my latter one(s)?

But indeed, "so much for being civil."

You're right 'bout that, actually: NOT everything is accepted.

You're missing my point. What I'm saying is that one cannot take the high ground when one behaves in the manner (s)he is against. That is the point. That is what I'm criticising you for.

Btw, people can and do admit error. I did this above and your reaction was to continue the attack, even now. This is what I'm criticising your for now. Though in a manner far more civil than yourself.

You didn't read my posts then. You, most likely, read (into) them in the tone of the first post which puts those posts out of context. Please go back and read them again. You'll find my admission of error:

1st post afterward:
"""
the only real thing that could be said about my post was that it as too harsh
"""

2nd post afterward:
"""
ignoring my admission of it being rude
"""

3rd post afterward:
"""
admittedly rude
"""

So, in every post after the first one, I've admitted being rude in that first post.

I said no such thing. You're combining separate unrelated statements and considering them one.

Yes, I said the reason why I made the statement was that "I cannot abide baseless conjecture". But, that is exactly not justification for the way I said it. There is a very big difference between the two. I reference my admission of being rude in every post since then including this one! It is the difference between what was said v.s. how it was said. Why don't you understand that?

I also never said that my slamming people was a "valuable contribution to this site". Where you get that I'll never know. What I said was my "slamming down folks" was the exception and that I am generally helpful and gave a reference to such an act that yielded positive results. While at the same time point out when things are wrong. Though politely; not how I did it in the my first post here.

You're twisting what I'm saying to a great degree. In fact, it doesn't even resemble what I said. Please stop these slanderous remarks.

You take that quote out of context. It was a general comment about what I have seen regularly on these boards. I said nothing about whether EvilDead1971 or anyone else was having a bad day or not. But, perhaps you are having one today.

What are you talking about?!?!? When did I "stomp on" anyone? One sentence in one post is hardly stomping on someone. Never mind that I admitted error directly after. Furthermore:

1) I'm NOT trying to make you angry.

2) I'm NOT making any judgment on if you are a "hero"/"incensed" or not.

3) I'm NOT saying this is a school-yard. Though I do find vengeful attitudes in that realm.

As shown above, I already admitted error in the way in which I wrote my first post. Time and time again, even in this one (multiple times). Why is it that you cannot except that? Must I be the "bad guy" from now till eternity because of one post? Are you honestly the type of person that requires that?

I also find it interesting that you are apparently trying to do to me what you want not to happen to other people. There's a word for that and it starts with an H.

Unless there's a major turn in what you're doing is right around the corner, I don't think that this is going to lead anywhere near constructive. So, if your next post is on the same level as this one, don't expect a response. I've already spent too much time on replying to your false and misleading posts.

@All:

For the record, as shown above, I have admitted error in every single post since my original in this thread. Again, I admit it was wrong. At the very least it should have been worded in a very different way.

I would also hope that people see Asarian's posts for the, at best, misleading misinformation that they really are. I will let my posts stand for what they are and trust that others won't read into them as Asarian obviously has.
