IMO, RWED is nothing but a place for folks to abuse each other. (Browncoat S/M club?) Politics is just an excuse for folks to villify and dehumanize each other, get self-righteous, and work out their bad moods. No moderator, no consequences. No need to look anyone in the eye.

I've noticed that anyone who has and expects a basic level of respect eventually leaves RWED, or turns bitter and self-righteous themselves. I've seen even the humorous and light-hearted chrisisall get pulled down the angry path. I was a few steps along myself, which is why I won't go into RWED anymore. It doesn't bring out a good side of me, and the relationships I was developing with other RWED posters was not healthy or at all enjoyable. I'm not into S/M. I don't like being abused, and I don't want to get in the habit of attacking others. (Even those who ask for it by disagreeing with me, the fools!

)

So, yeah, WWTCD? He'd get his own ship and fill it with people who can keep a civil tongue in their mouth, and let the assholes of the verse hang out in their own cesspool and gnaw each other's tails off.

Here's to hoping the cesspool doesn't follow us here, xraftermanx!

Pretty much made this post for a laugh. It's funny to read how much people will get all worked up about politics at a site dedicated to entertainment.

I love Firefly and Serenity, especially the whole freedom or death thing and just wanted to make a post that pointed out that if we truly see ourselves as Browncoats that perhaps our politics would follow suit.

Yeah, I'd better get back out while I have the chance, I spend more time on Serenitymovie's RWED anyway- the peeps there are opinionated, but they're fairly cordial. I was on a similar thread about the puppy video, expressed the same reasons why I felt it was fake, and met with no hostility for it. RWED here has gotten measurably meaner, or maybe I'm just not used to it anymore.

Really, RWED has a culture of escalation. As soon as one guy's a jerk, the other has to outdo him (or her) and there's no chance to back off. The topic is secondary to the personality clash, and everyone just accepts that. It's hard not to feed into it. I tried not to, and failed.

I agree. Since this thread's author is fairly new, perhaps they were unaware that a thread about RWED should probably go in RWED. Perhaps a mod (if any are still lurking about) could relocate this thread. I can sympathise, there are several on-going threads in the main forum that I would not like to see "bleedover" into RWED.

OK, thing is - just like before, I wasn't talking about you. You seem to be eager to take everything I say as a personal insult aimed at yourself. What I'm after here is not a flame of any single person, but an unheated discussion of the general culture of RWED, the culture of personal attacks and escalation. It totally caught me by surprise - what you said, and the strength of my reaction. My "fleeing" that discussion and this is not so I can sit on my superiority throne and gloat over you or anyone else, it's to protect myself. I don't deal with mudslinging well. It. Hurts. Me.

Thing is, what you maybe didn't realize is that you yourself slung quite a bit of mud, as I recall, and did so in a very superior and hurtful way - you obviously did not mean to, it's not really in your nature TO mean to, but you got downright hurtful and malicious to anyone who simply shared a habit you didn't like, and I returned the favor, although admittedly at a level of unwarranted overkill.

Stuff like that happens, text doesn't carry naunces and is far more prone to misinterpretation, sure, and I *did* apologise to you, and I DO understand where you're coming from - or I would not be here suggesting we avoid inflicting RWED on posters who don't volunteer for our merry circular firing squad.

But that does not justify downright insulting folks because they debate there, that was uncalled for and unworthy of you, and I know you maybe got issues about it still, but that is no cause for allowing them to manifest here, and insulting an entire group of people while calling their forum a cesspool.

Frankly, you may not mean to, but you really are coming off in a holier than thou fashion that strikes me as out of place for you, and if you believe dealing with RWED affects you in such a negative fashion, why bother with throwing insults at the place ?

Look - I'm not fleeing! It's probably a very bad idea. You may have got enough dislike of me and a strong enough image of who I am that I won't convince you differently. Particularly not with what I'm about to say, but what the hell. I just can't see our situations as equal. You've been direct in your insults to me, while I've not directed anything at you. Even when you came down on me hard, I didn't attack back. You had to come looking into my chats with other people to find a response. As for "cesspool" - go into any RWED thread and count the number of attack posts versus discussion posts, and put together a case that it isn't a cesspool of animosity. The place is what it is. That's not your fault, I never said it was. The fact that you're so quick to take this as a judgement of yourself is all about what's in your head, not mine. (And please don't speak of me insulting "folks". This is about you and me. If anyone else has problems with me, they will talk to me themselves. It's not your job.)

Truly, the cesspool situation is all of our fault - including mine and Chrisisall's, who I was actually talking to when I said that. If I was pointing fingers at anyone, it was at him and the one he was arguing puppy aerodynamics with - and myself. I've been quite up front that I've taken part in the bad attitudes in RWED, but you seem to have missed that. Maybe it doesn't fit this image you've formed of me as the self-righteous "I do no wrong" bitch. So let me stress - I recognize that a vindictive, overly defensive side of me comes out in these threads. I'm trying to change.

Believe it or not, I am a person to work it out when I'm wrong, to own up to it and try to do better. But I won't admit to something I don't see. I'll discuss it, sure as hell, and I'll hear your side. I expect the same respect in return.

So again I tell you straight up and with no hidden agenda - I don't see that the tit for tat going on between you and me has been equal. I can't see your hurt as my fault. You've put your own spin on my posts, seeing insults that aren't there - when I'm not even talking to you! You take all kinds of affront at my tone, although I'm milder by far than most of RWED. Why do I get to you so badly? I don't know. I suspect that I didn't kiss the toes of your smoking habit the way you'd have liked, and that set something off in you.

Now, I've had addicts in my life, and your response to my lack of kowtowing was familar. (Certainly, I'm projecting my past experiences on you, and that's not your fault and not your responsibilty. I apologize if it seems I'm painting you as someone you're not. I don't mean to. I'm not calling you an addict, just saying that you're treating me the way addicts have in the past. See the difference?)

To me, it wasn't only your explosion, but the way you apologized as if you deserved congratulations for doing it. It made it all about you, and felt like a textbook abusive situation - you attacked me out of the blue, but it's my fault for being annoying and talking in a superior tone (when I wasn't even talking to you!) You apologize so you're golden, but I'm still a villain for not - what? What is it you want? You want me to abase myself to you in some way? Admit that I deserve everything you hand out because you find my posts unpleasant?

A civil answer is appreciated. And please, not a quick one. I imagine your first reponse to this might not be pretty. Please have a smoke and read again - there may be less fightin' words in this post than you see the first time through. I certainly don't mean to put any in. I really, really, don't like to fight. I like to *discuss*

Seriously, I give up...

I realize it's not your intent to be levelling insult, and imma just grit my teeth and leave it at that, ok ?

But in the future, try to ponder the effect your words will have on others when you call them abusive, self-righteous, bitter, disrespectful, unhealthy, stupid jerks and meanies who's portion of the site is a cesspool.

If you don't realize the reaction to that might be negative, there's really not a lot I can say to you about it.

So imma just file it as unintentional and move along, so as not to needlessly prolong a discussion that shouldn't even be here, cause it's obviously not going to resolve anything.

Besides, dancing is a far better use of yer time than arguing over a rather petty disagreement in the first place - let it go, and go have fun.
