I'm really staring to get into using 3D Studio Max and I was thinking of working on a model of Serenity. Has any fan done this before? I'd be curious to see if anyone knows of one.

There's an excellent 3D model of Serenity done in Lightwave by 'Treybor' , which is frequently re-used , but I don't know if that will help...

This subject comes up fairly frequently here , and it's even been a recent topic...

You should google-search this site , and you'll find the older threads...

I've been considering doing a model of Serenity in 3ds Max but just haven't the time. Anyway this link will take you to the guy's post on ff.net who did the model in Lightwave: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=12&t=6963

but at the moment the links are dead.

EDIT: I Found a forum which has the tutorial for the Serenity Lightwave Tutorial but you need to register, here is the link: http://www.foundation3d.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1281&highlight=SER

I've been toying with the same thing. The qmx blueprints are quite helpful for it. You can also get an electronic version that would be easier to put into MAX as a reference. It's at the bottom of http://www.serenitystuff.com/2007/11/15/review-qmx-serenity-blueprint-

/

The only problem I've found with the Lightwave model is that it's extremely detailed, and takes an awful lot of computer power to play with. It's certainly not a game model.
