I'm down here in little Rhody... could make a shindig in Boston or other parts of Mass. This month is probably too late for me to plan ahead.

Firefly BBQ looks like the perfect place. A little billiards, some good eats, and some shiny conversation.

Don't forget Worldcon/Noreascon 4 in Boston in September... I'll be there.

Looks like we're narrowing it down to May 23rd at Firefly's in Framingham. Not confirmed just yet.

Ya'll think you could make it that day?

May 23rd works for me. Of course, most any other day would work too right now, so if someone else needs it changed I can still be there.

Do we want do do something at Worldcon in Sept?
...Or is that a given?

When faced with a moral question I ask myself; "What would The Lone Ranger do?"

Here is the Firefly's BBQ site:

http://www.fireflysbbq.com

I'm not very familiar with Framingham--only know how to get to the Premium Cinema! But there are directions on the site. It's in the "Super Stop N Shop Plaza"? I guess some lovely strip-mall type thing? But the food is supposed to be really good.

I've never been to Worldcon but I hope there will be a FF presence of some kind. And if we can get a regular Boston group, I'd also like to propose a visit to the Peabody Essex Musuem on the north shore where they have a complete 200-year old Chinese house on exhibit (yes, taken FROM CHINA and rebuilt IN THE MUSEUM!). I just saw a couple of weeks ago. Really cool.

I've made suggestion to the programming committee for Worldcon that there be some Firefly discussions or panels. The preliminary schedule comes out in June.

HELENCLEMENTS

Hi

Damn.............I miss out by 2 days!!

I'm currently in Boston on business - with a couple of days holiday at the end - and I fly home on the 21st May!! (I'm from Oxford, UK)

I have some free time / days / nights etc - anyone about who fancies a mini-mini-shindig before the 21st?

What a wasted opportunity - if I'd known I could have stayed longer!!

[reposting something I said on the official board:]

I drove by Firefly's BBQ today while out in Framingham. For those coming up Route 126 from Routes 9 or 30, shortly after 126 crosses over 30, you will see a sign for a cluster of shops called "Old Path Village." At the next intersection, 126 bears left, but you will bear right onto Old Connecticut Path (there is a very small street sign). There's a shopping center on the right and you can see the Stop and Shop pretty clearly. When facing the Stop and Shop, Firefly's is next door to your right.

I didn't see that much of interest in the immediate area -- just shops, homes, and a YMCA. If we wanted to hang out further there's malls, movies, or we could go down Route 30 a bit to Cochituate State Park.

Hi Helen!
I'm sorry you'll miss it! My week is rather full-don't know if I'd have time to meet up. Are you staying in downtown Boston?

Whereabouts are you located?

Also, there are a few of us signed up on meetup.com and the next "International Firefly Meetup Day" is June 5th:

http://firefly.meetup.com/

I've never done anything through meetup.com, but hopefully it can become a regular thing.

TRAGICSTORY

Its from the Original Viz Graphic Novel translation of the Ranma 1/2 manga.

If you are familiar with the series this will make sense if not I will explain more in depth later (after finals tonight)

The chinese guide at the springs explains the curse of each spring by saying "oh that spring of BLANK, very tragic legend of BLANK drowing there X years ago."

Execpt for the charater Mousse. His explanation was "oh that spring of duck, very TRAGIC STORY of duck drowing there X years ago."

When I saw that I stole it as it is not as pretentious as Tragic Legend. Of course the fact that it is an extreme bit of anime trivia also helped as did the fact that I kept wondering how a duck would drown on its own.

Over the years there have been additional meanings and reasons to keep it but that is how I first got it.

Cool. I am very manga ignorant. Thanks for the explanation!
