Serenity didn't do too badly, but then Joss had to dumb that baby down for the multiplexes.

Why couldn't the tension come more from the characters (as it did in Firefly) and less from chasing about in a hurry with gunfights and explosions etc etc etc?

I interpreted that as Hollywood forcing everything be fit a genre, when Joss at his best defies such paltry definitions. The movie still rocks, of course! Just not as much as Firefly.

(Before I get flamed - yes, I know Serenity did have character tension more than most space action flicks, and I do love the movie. Lots and lots! But it just isn't as brilliant as Firefly ismypointisall. It was a change.) Extended cut? I'm all for that.
