Thank God For Joss and his creation Firefly. It's has been a great glimpse into the future of SF. I mean its great to see no wookies, Aliens, Predator's, Terminators, horseshoe crab foreheads, droids, and laser beams etc. Look at how long the Star Trek franchise has been around. Don't get me wrong it has it's place but what crap! Bad acting, sets that a 3 yo could make, prime directive garbage. The Earth as one planet nonsense. Roddenberry's interplanetary eutopia? And the ever present..."Hmmm lets try to settle our differences before we raise sheilds". Mal would just shoot them! Lucas got too full of himself. Forgot fans give him his money. The "It's my vision I will do what I want". Hence the garbage he put out after Jedi. He messed that up with; reworking the Solo vs Greedo cantina scene, burp and fart jokes, Ewoks, Jar jar Binks, and that moron who played Aniken. Boring! Don't get me wrong I saw Star Wars on 25 May 1977. I had the toys, and was a fanatical SW fan. But I evolved and saw the light in 2002. Alias, it was short, but a singular moment in my Sci-Fi "evolution". Joss's creation went against the grain and in doing so probably did him in. Granted the western tie in was probably to korny for most. I thought it was a refreshing creation in marrying the two genres.
Firefly was real, emotional, entertaining. It had character developement that anyone would enjoy sitting around a table eating with them. Maybe it was good that it was not allowed to get so stale as Star Trek, NextGen, DS9, Voyager, and the "train wreck" Enterprise? Thank God that Star Trek TV thing is over. Firefly showed us the future where we would probably fit in and interact similar to the Serenity Crew. Lastly by the whole Browncoat revolution to get Serenity made, Joss gave credit where it was due. Not too many Hollywood types would do be able to thank the fans. Just thinking out loud, after pondering the whole Joss Verse.
Take care Browncoats!

I agree, the last 3 episodes of SW was an exercise in futility and bloated ego. Lucas took himself too seriously (unlike the first 3 installments Episodes 4,5 & 6). I too was an original SW fan (saw them all at least 3 times in the theatre) although I didn't collect SW memorabilia. And Jar Jar Binks; please don't get me started. Lucas forgot what got him to the top of the Sci-Fi mountain - the fans. In retrospect, I'm glad he retired. He should never write or direct another SW movie. And now we come to the 'verse created by JW. Firefly. Who would have thought to mix SF with a western motif? What I like most about FF is the character development. The writing on this show is excellent. Like seeing a mini-movie each time out. I was particularly impressed with the way he slowly developed and revealed the River Tam character. The fools at Fox had no idea what they had on their hands. They were still stick in SW mode and couldn't understand what JW was bringing to the table. FF could have ran for 10 years and it would not be stale - on the contrary it would have satisfied the most hard-core SF fanatic. That first season was just the tip of the iceberg.

I hope she does the soup in the hair thing, that's always a hoot and no one dies from it.

Shiny,
Your right. what I don't understand is this similar occurence. Fox cancelled Family Guy. Sales of the DVD's went through the roof and they brought it back. Why haven't they noticed the DVD sales for Firefly? Have they forgot what drives the business? Hello, money. Nowhere have I seen any fan base as devoted as Browncoats are. Really who aires a TV show and shows the episodes not in order, sometimes 3 weeks between episodes, and expect it to succeed? Joss had a gold mine. Characters, storylines, and a new take on Sci-Fi. Lastly why hasn't it been addressed to the Sci-Fi channel. Maybe it has, but Firefly kicks Galactica's butt! And that lasted longer than a half a season. Just another Browncoat holding his breath!
take care friend.
