Every day as i walk down my school hallway I get stuck behind various groups of people, always walking painfully slow, but yet fast enough that it is impossible to pass them. so everyday with out realizing it I hear inside my head "Fast would be better than slow" which Mal says in SAFE, also while heading through the hallway I walk into conversations that I don't really want to hear and inside my head I hear again "Thats just downright unsettlin'" which Jayne says in WAR STORIES.

so my question is for you do you have any recurring fireflyisms (either physical, mental or verbal works) in your daily life?

I'm starting to think "Well, ain't that special?" about things so maybe that's how it starts... the crazy thoughts... soon I'll be saying it out loud...

Where I work people like to debate just about any decision, no matter how pointless, to death. I've gotten in the habit of delivering Mal's line from Jaynestown, "Why are you arguing what's already been decided?"

Funny thing is that I've gotten a couple of people using the same line now... and they've never even watched Firefly.

Simon: I've never shot anyone before.

Book: I was there, son. I'm fair sure you haven't shot anyone yet.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Ones I use all the time:

"Gorram"
"Ruttin'"
"That seem right to you?"

Ones I use when the situation calls for them:

"Fast would be better than slow."
"Why are we still talking about this?"
"Your mouth's talking. You might want to see to that."

Then of course there is the use of Mandarin when it is appropriate.

GUNHAND

I use: "I'm lost, I'm angry and I'm armed" quite a bit. Definately gets people's attention.

I spout Mandarin when I'm not even thinking about it, like when driving or dealing with stupid people. If I actually try to plan to say something in it, it doesn't usually work so well.

Shiny, creepifying and gorram I use a lot too.

Oh and the patented Niska,"Ah, yesssssss..." which is all manner of creepifying when you use it right.

I use "gorram" a lot without thinking about it, and "shiny" occasionally, but the latter almost exclusively when I'm around other Browncoats.

I spout the mandarin on rare occasions, the only one I use a lot is "Jen Dao Me" (sp?) which I believe translates as "just our luck." "Go se" also comes in handy when I want to insult someone without them knowing it.

The thing that's stuck the most is just speech patterns and ways of phrasing. I don't know how many times I say "them as can," or "you ain't wrong/you're not wrong."

You got a wife? All I got is that dumbass stick sounds like it's raining.

I've always had speech patterns like that, I come from a pretty rustic locale and my grandma always used turns of phrase that just seemed old fashioned and fanciable.

What's scary is when I say or type something and then look at it, go huh, and wonder how Joss started writing my dialogue.

On another board where I occassionally annoy people for some unknown reason instead of saying,"I'll give them the shadow of a doubt" I said,"I'm willing to give them the shallow end of a benefit of a doubt" Now THAT is just creepifying because it sounds very Firefly-ish and I wasn't even thinking on it.

Creepy.

I use Gorram a lot, and not so much.
I sometimes sit around like Jayne aboard the alliance ship in Bushwhacked, arms folded and moving my fingers. Its really funny when I do it with my tan Blue Sun shirt on.

I tend to use Chinese phrases like ai ya (damn), hwoon dahn (son of a bitch), and ma-shong: (on the double) a lot.

Y'know what's kinda scary? I started using ai ya a bit BEFORE Firefly ever aired, had no idea it was Chinese of any kind, and then saw the show - which just reinforced it so that now I use it A LOT.

Shiny has all but replaced pretty much every superlative in my vocabulary, and I find it funny to determine whether things are fact, are solid.

I use "not so much" all the time and also "that's not untrue" from the deleted OMR scene. Also, I catch myself saying "gorram" pretty frequently.

Also, just the general speech patterns -- I find myself adding "ifying" and "like" to the ends of all kinds of words.

Shiney, not so much, gorram and all kinds of mandrin are all part of my lingo now but one of my most used is probably " And I'd like to be king of all Londinum and wear a shiny hat" i love the reaction it gives someone after they have just told you what they want... its priceless

I, myself, have begun thinking (inside my head) with a sort of...Firefly "accent." I can't think of any other way to put it. I just re-read an email I sent to a friend who hurt her back (she herniated a disc) and I actually typed: "I hear you yourself have been herniated. I empathize. Hope you are getting therapied, it makes a world of difference."

Wha tha fuh?? I never USED to do that!

I do find myself occasionally saying "shiny" and "gorram" but only to other 'coats. Never to "civilians!"

...sigh...I guess it's just a side effect...
