TEMPEST

The question is, how willing are YOU to make it happen?

Hello all. While this may be my first post on these forums, I've been browsing my way around them for a while now. I'm so happy that there is a dedicated fan-base for Firefly out there, due to the fact that it is simply a masterpiece in its creation. I'm sure all of you understand perfectly well the grief of watching that last episode, knowing that there will be no more coming. (unless something miraculous happens, we hope!)

Thus, it is to you that I pitch my idea!

I'm in Australia, and we aren't lucky enough to have Firefly on Fox over here (yet), so I was able to watch them all at my friend's place (several times), and I have done my part in ordering the DVDs from America (which cost me nearly 80 bucks due to the dollar exchange and post). However, simply supporting the DVDs is not enough for me, like many of you, I'm sure. I want to do more.

Therefore, I present to you all, the idea of a Firefly MUSH. If we can't receive more episodes, why shouldn't we be able to create them ourselves, through the magic of a Mushing client, a universe we create, and the coming together of a bunch of people with storylines in mind, characters devised and a willingness to interact with each other in the universe Joss Whedon created with the sole intent of character development? I've had a lot of Mushing experience in my time, and I can honestly say, with enough support, this could be done. I'm not one to pitch an idea that couldn't be followed through.

It would, however, be a lot of work. This is why I want to see the level of interest for the idea. The project itself is far too big for my level of knowledge and my schedule, thus this would require a group of people who would be interested in learning certain coding operations, and willing to spend some time in making a dream come true.

Just think of the end result: Being able to enter the Firefly universe ourselves, creating our own character, giving them their own personality, history, description, with out intentions of how we want to steer their advancements. Meeting and interacting with others, forming or joining a crew. Entering relationships, encountering conflicts. All wishful thinking? I hope not. :)

Let me give you a few links to look at if you're interested, basically showing the foundations of MUSH code. It isn't particularly hard.. just a learning curve. :)

Don't know what a MUSH is? Well:

Hope that's enough for now. It's kinda late, and I'm rambling. :) If you're interested, post here! Or talk to me on msn or email through rileyrock@hotmail.com

I'm looking forward to seeing what you all think.

OH G*D YES! :)

There is so much material here, even in the limited glimpses we've seen into Joss' new milieu. All the elements for a good MUSH, with political and social organizations, varied locations and cultures, ships and tech and CRIME!

Heck, you wouldn't even need to work that hard to come up with good TPs. I'd be more than willing to sit around and "sip klah" in any number of locations, without Staff intervention. ;-)

I'd love to help -- I've been MU*ing since '95. I have not been Staff anywhere, and my coding is mostly of the soft- and builder- type, but I am very good at structure/organization/process and would love to be involved with a group defining the Firefly 'verse.

I have like-minded friends who will certainly be in touch. :-)

Well, I still have no idea what is involved with MUSHING... but if it's fun, I'll play.

Is it complicated?

I also have no idea what MUSH is, but couldn't you just create a pencil and paper role playing game, like they did for Star Wars? That would be easy. Of course, it'd also be really crappy.

well for my part I am doing a "firefly" fan film, its going to be set in the same verse but follows a crew of a different firefly vessel. We're in pre-production on the first episode now. Going to post them over at my website for all to view when they're done.

I'm a programmer/coder (well, I have the degree, no one's actually employing me to do it at the moment) so I might be off some use in the setup process and wouldn't mind a go at playing one if it was run right.

While I do know what a MUSH is I don't actually have much (or, in fact, any) experience with them and the link to godlike.com is down at the moment so I can't actually see what would be involved so can't say exactly how much help I could be. What I'm trying to say is, if the required group comes about, I'm available if you need me.

I used to do a lot of coding for MOO, which is kind of the same thing, but I'm way out of practice. Cool idea... I'm not much into roleplaying, but it'd be fun for chat.

And here I was planning to start this thread. *grins*

I agree that a Firefly MUSH (Multi-User Shared Hallucination) is a *great* idea.

I have a fair bit of experience working a MUCK, and I have played various MU*s in my day.

I recommend this space platform highly:

KODIAK

I stumbled upon this particular thread while looking for source material for a MUSH I'm building.

So, quite simply, I am in the process of building a MUSH based upon the Firefly theme, worlds, races, etc. I have a small core of volunteers to help me with this task and any work made at the moment could be forgotten if another project is already going strong. However, at the moment we'll continue on as we are.

I will be looking for volunteers shortly to help build, perhaps in the next month or so. Anyone versed in MUSH code (We'll be running the latest PennMUSH release as well as the latest HSpace Trueline release.) is more than welcome to drop me a line when I start looking for volunteers.

Not familiar with MUSHcode? No worries. You can very easily become a builder. Obviously you know the 'net and know how to type. That's the essentials of a builder! :)

Again, the call will go out in about a month or so. I'm quite an experienced MUSHer and the team I currently have combine for roughly 40 years of roleplay experience with 20 of those years spent in MUSH environments.

Just giving a heads up. :)
