----- Coretex News Flash -----

080608 The Browncoats are going to do the impossible. Again.

This Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 every Browncoat on Earth-that-is is being asked to make a concerted effort to break a record set by the fans of Xena: Warrior Princess for the highest number of votes received by a TV Show in a 24 hour period. To participate visit http://richlabonte.net/tvvote and cast your vote. Click the checkbox next to Firefly, then click the CLICK ONCE TO VOTE! button. 60 minutes later you can (and should) do it again. Those that need a reminder can download a timer program here: http://www.usbmicro.com/misc

Back on March 30, 2007, the Xenites got together and cast 2,803 votes in a single voting day (voting days run from approximately 0600 EST (1000 GMT) until approximately 0700 EST (1100 GMT) the following day. This is 25 hours, but the times are approximations. Start early, keep voting until late). The Browncoats came within 444 votes of tying the record on March 7, 2007, but have been unable to approach it since then, and time has almost run out to capture this last, most elusive record. Firefly currently holds the records for: Highest number of consecutive days above 1,000 votes (75), and Biggest Lead Over Nearest Show (182,000 (this lead is higher than the total votes accumulated by any show below 15th Place in the poll)). Daily voting information from before October of 2006 is still being collated, so no further "All Time" records are being claimed as yet, but for 400+ days, Firefly received more votes than any other program, and rocketed to first place. Recently however the fans of Moonlight have been coming on strong, routinely beating Firefly by 442 votes per day. The Browncoats are trying to rally, but thus far Moonlight is still gaining on them. Although there isn't enough time remaining for any show to catch Firefly, it would be the height of poor sportsmanship for the fans to simply wait out the clock, and any additional votes you would care to contribute would be happily received.

After five years of running the TVVOTE poll, Rich Labonte is finally shutting it down. Widely regarded as the most reliable poll of fan devotion on the internet, TVVOTE has accumulated 9,696,222 votes to date, and will shut down when it reaches the 10,000,000 mark, which is expected to occur in less than two weeks. What makes TVVOTE the most reliable? Rich's devotion to sussing out cheaters. Fans can vote once an hour every hour, but only once. If multiple votes from the same IP SubNet mask are received within an hour, all votes from that SubNet are discarded to prevent a single person from running to each computer in an office or library. If a bot is detected, not only are current and future votes discarded, but the show may be penalized votes as well (one such incident almost closed the poll in 2007).

(Reposted from previous thread:)

Mornin' stats BOMP!

Dark Shadows took a tumble, yesterday. It'd be a fine and friendly gesture if folks would help 'em out these final two weeks!

The missus and I put in 22 total votes on our IP, yesterday, including Bonanza, BSG, Buffy, Jericho, Angel, Babylon 5, Ponderosa, Dark Shadows, Blood Ties, all our friends with whom we share our success. We're on a sprint for the finish, Browncoats! Let's make sure the whole team gets across the finish line!

Many thanks to those Big Damn Heroes who are adding votes for Ponderosa and Bonanza! Bonanza now stands to make their goal of 500k, with our help (which our new westerns friends are graciously returning). Xie-xie!

2 weeks remain to vote, and Firefly is now 2 days AHEAD of schedule!

(Statistics in parentheses are previous day's stats, for comparison purposes)

An estimated 13.25 (14.49) days remain to vote, based on current rates of voting.

Our ultimate goal, 750,000, is 16,099 (17,488) votes, and 11.59 (12.52) days away! We need to maintain a minimum daily average of 1,150 (1,166) votes for the balance of the Poll to stay on track. At this point, every vote we fail to cast is lost forever; we won't always have "tomorrow" to make it up!

Let's keep up the hard burn, show everyone our Browncoat Fan Power, and clinch our final milestones!

http://richlabonte.net/tvvote

http://www.richlabonte.net/tvvote

http://richlabonte.net/tvvote/index.html

ALL three links work for voting, so if you have trouble, you can try an alternate address instead.

You can vote for more as many Top 40 shows as you like, once every hour. You can only nominate one show per hour, at:

http://richlabonte.net/tvvote/nominations.html

Download the FlyVote voting timer, a NEW version of the program. It'll remind you when it's time to vote, each hour: http://usbmicro.com/misc

Votes are counted per network IP, so, don't go to the library or your office and vote hourly on each computer on the subnet, or all votes will be thrown out; multiple votes on rotating IPs will likewise be rejected.

Total votes Firefly: 733,901 (732,512)

Yesterday, Browncoats voted 1,389 (1,397) times, 8 fewer than the previous day. Still mighty shiny numbers, Browncoats! We're closing in on the end of the Poll, and with the help of all our friends (now including the Bonanzais and Jericho Rangers), we need to keep the daily votes up!

We'll get our next banner, for 735,000 votes, in another 1,099 (2,488) votes, and .79 (1.78) days!

8,102,805 (8,082,752) Top 40 votes have been counted as of 07/31/08. Yesterday, 20,053 (19,558) votes were cast.

In other TV Vote news (shows whose voters also support Firefly and the Whedonverse, so, let's return the favor, shiny? We accomplish more together than we would separately!)...

#5 show Battlestar Galactica got 589 (529) votes, not receiving enough votes to pass #4 show Gunsmoke by the end of the Poll.

The Colonials need urgent help! Please lend 'em a hand!

#6 show Buffy the Vampire Slayer got 756 (749) votes, yesterday, not receiving enough votes to pass #5 show BSG by the end of the Poll. Buffy's numbers are still sufficient to hold off #7 show Farscape.

#9 show Angel got 705 (709) votes, yesterday, not receiving enough votes to pass #8 show Jericho by the end of the Poll. Angel's numbers are still sufficient to hold off #10 show Combat! until the end of the Poll. Angel is 18.79 (19.68) days from the Hall of Fame, about 5 (5) days behind.

In order to enter the HoF before the Poll ends, Angel needs a daily average of at least 947 (931) votes. Can we boost the Brooding One to the HoF, Browncoats?

#13 show Babylon 5 got 450 (460) votes, yesterday, not receiving enough votes to pass #12 show Little House on the Prairie by the end of the Poll. B5's numbers are still sufficient to hold off #14 show La Femme Nikita. B5 is also 5,547 (5,997) votes, and 12.33 (13.04) days from reaching 200,000 votes!

Lets help the Babylonians reach their final goal!

#24 show Dark Shadows got 389 (415) votes, yesterday, and is on track to pass #23 show Star Trek: The Original Series, which got 355 (322) votes, in 23.24 (8.86) days, not soon enough to make it! Dark Shadows will reach 150,000 votes in another 6,229 (6,618) votes, and 16.01 (15.95) days. At current rates of voting they are one day behind reaching that final goal before the end of the Poll!

The Barnabas Browncoats were instrumental in helping achieve our 75 consecutive day 1,000+ daily votes streak; please help our friends achieve their goals!

#34 show Blood Ties got 706 (702) votes, yesterday, and is on track to pass #33 show The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which got 305 (311) votes, yesterday, in 9.76 (11.03) days.

Thanks for lending your help to the Fitzroyals!

#36 show Moonlight got 1,825 (1,885) votes, yesterday, and is on track to catch #35 show JAG, which got 384 (369) votes, in 3.88 (4.64) days.

Yours in the cause,

-Raycheetah =^[.]^=

P.S.: I snerched this quote about us, 'cause I am never disappointed in my shiny Browncoat brothers and sisters when opportunity arises to prove it:

Okay, FT, my observations:

"Back on March 30, 2007, the Xenites got together and cast 2,803 votes in a single voting day (voting days run from approximately 0600 EST (1000 GMT) until approximately 0700 EST (1100 GMT) the following day. Look at those dates. Xena came along and BEAT our record. That's a lot different, and should be pointed up to motivate folks.

Also, I think you should provide the links for the current FFF.net voting thread, as well as the backup at:

http://boards.nbcuni.com/universalHD/index.php?showtopic=330&view=getn
ewpost

That way, folks can get in on the vumping, and also become aware of our voting partners, should they choose to lend them their assistance in these final two weeks. Dark Shadows, in particular, could use some real help, both to make their final pass, and to reach 150k before time runs out.

Now, let's do this! FAN POWER!

Ray - Excellent suggestions. I took a look at the data from 'back then'.
The ALL TIME HIGHEST RECORDS go like this:

Firefly Dec 12, '06 1,350
Xena WP Feb 18, '07 1,374
Xena breaks it's own record a few times, then
Firefly March 28, '07 1,791
Xena WP March 30, '07 2,803

Damn fine time to be alive...

I'll get the edited version up in a few minutes.

And as I look at it, it made less & less sense...

Our Personal best day was March 30, 2007, which is the same day that Xena set the All Time Record.

All this time & the daily has been wrong.

Fixed now though.

A "Tone" question:

Should this announce a generic audience (as it does now), or should it be to 'fellow Browncoats' (words like We, Us, You, Your).
I know it's going to Browncoats, but it's being sent as a newswave (for now). Which would carry more weight?

ALWAYS appeal to Browncoat pride, VOMP!

Might also mention that this is gonna be the LAST stab we have at this, and make sure that you emphasize the voting up to once per hour thing. Some folks might just vote once, then be done with it. If we can entice 'em to come and vump with us, it'll keep 'em voting.

How's this'n read?

080608 The Browncoats are going to do the impossible. Again.

Firefly needs your help. Yes, you personally. Won't cost you any coin to show you're a Browncoat either.

This Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 every Browncoat on Earth-that-is is being asked to make a concerted effort to break a record set by the fans of Xena: Warrior Princess for the highest number of votes received by a TV Show in a 24 hour period. The vote totals are updated once each day around 0900 EST (1300 GMT), so don't expect to see immediate results from each vote you cast.

You can vote every hour. You don't have to wait until Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 to start. Start now, get into the habit, work out any difficulties. Check out some of the sites below, and see how things are going, meet some more Browncoats, ask a few questions, maybe just lurk.

A very handy timer program can be found here: http://www.usbmicro.com/misc It will remind you to vote every hour (once you download, install & activate it)
The daily progress, charts, graphs, and other statistics can be tracked here: http://www.fireflyfans.net Follow the current "Vote for Firefly" thread (it changes twice a week, but always starts with "Vote for Firefly").

Well, since you're leaving us, I s'pose that'll be alright; I'll be pulling a Paul Revere on Sunday night to post the announcement closer to the "GO" date, VOMP!

Hopefully, our friends will also benefit a bit from the increased activity, particularly those who are close to their goals.

I've started to 'seed' a few copies to people who will help spread the word Sunday night/Monday morning.

I don't doubt that our allies will be able to ride the wave as well. How cool would it be to fill the remaining vote total eh? Close down the site with a serious BANG! 50k votes! Let's do it!
