My work colleagues keep telling me off for drinking too much coke. Yes I KNOW that it's sugary badness that rots your teeth, but since I don't drink tea or coffee what else am I to do?!

My moan for the day: bloddy health and safety Nazis! I've been told that I can't do dissections or sampling in streams or catch small animals for study next year. I'm going to fight this. How am I supposed to teach Anatomy and Ecology and keep it interesting without doing fun stuff (which always has an element of risk - I mean, can you think of anything fun that is absolutely risk free?!)

Rant over! What's on everyone else's minds today - apart from samwiches?!

The mention of small animals in the same thread as sandwiches makes me think of 'V'...

You could take some shovels and go hunt on the roadside for roadkill. 'Pre-deceased anatomical specimins', plus cleaning up the environment. I s'pose you might have to like jigsaws for that one though.

I have writer's block at the mo, and I've found I might have to go back to Cubicle World ie paid employment. Suckage.

Not sure of the V reference, and I've both read and seen it (unless we're not talking V for Vendetta here)

Nice idea about the roadkill but I think the powers that be would be even more upset about that than the oh so risky pig heart from the butcher idea!

Sorry about the writer's block. What you need is a boring desk job where you can serrupticiously write all day whilst getting paid for it. I spend a happy year as a Receptionist doing that!

So, am I right that everything fun has an element of risk or can anyone come up with a fun 'safe' activity?
I thought of reading but then then there are those pesky paper cuts. Plus I go in for 'extreme' reading, like reading whilst walking (or even driving, but only when there are big queues!), or when in the bath!

'V' - sci-series wherein the aliens-disguised-as-humans liked to snack on rodents.

I've done the 'Boring Desk Job, Hidden Notepad' before. I just prefer the writing without the getting up early and dealing with idiots part. Sigh.

I think you might be right about the mutual exclusivity of 'fun' and 'safe'. Depending on your klutz level, though, pretty much anything can become unsafe fairly fast. Reading is about the safest I can think of, provided it's not combined with cooking etc.

PS I was intrigued by Pratchett's mention of Extreme Sneezing in his last book. The mind boggles. (And I still see David Tennant as MvL.)

I've done that! Plus the risky reading under the desk when you're supposed to be working extreme sport!

You! It was your fault that this has got stuck in my mind! I couldn't remember who first proposed this to me but I had to phone round all of my friends in excitement over the perfectness of the idea! I'm a bit worried as I have heard that the BBC is planning on dramatising Going Postal this Christmas and anything less that the georgeous Scotsman will be a SEVERE let down!

Reading IS a pretty safe activity, but so's being at the comp, chatting/playing games/whatever. I don't really see anything happening with that, unless it was a REALLY freaky, bizzare thing.

But what really, what IS absolutely safe? What carries a 100% guaurantee that absolutely NOTHING bad will happen, fun or not?

My opinion, the only completely safe thing is being dead; nothing bad can happen to a corpse (unless they're undead or something, but they just need to be killed again).

O_o why?

and yes, reading is a very safe activity. unless something happens in the story that causes you to hurl the book across the room at an innocent bystander.

o.m.f.g. i just came back from a friends birthday party, and while i was there, and everyone was asking what we were gonna do next, michelle (bday person) said "okay well we HAVE to watch Dr. Horrible." and i went "......Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog?" And she just grinned at me and nodded.
mind you, this girl is not a firefly fan, or a whedon fan, and i think she's only seen serenity once, and it was shortly after it came out on dvd. i nearly went through the roof.
after everyone else was finally introduced to it (only three of us out of about ten had seen it) the FIRST words out of another friend's mouth were "ok so when are they putting this on broadway?"
to which everyone immediately agreed "OH MY GOD THAT WOULD BE AWESOME"
"or a high school stage play, because i could SO see that on a school stage"
now i must convert them to the browncoat cause ^_^
btw michelle paid to download Dr. H from itunes. XD

Anywaaaay.... thanks for the disection website MsB. It's good, but not as much fun as making a glove puppet out of a cow heart!

I have been told that I may be allowed to take them out looking for wildlife footprints. I may have to go out and plant some so that I can be sure of a good lesson! Now where can I get hold of fake fox feet?!

Sorry, I'll stop going on about work now and share in FLT's joy over Dr Horrible popularity. I've managed to share the love with a couple of non-sci-fi friends too! No-one can resist his might! Bwahahaahahahahahaa! (I've been practicing projecting from the diaphram!)

My dad never let us in my parents bed... mind you we woke him up a lot anyway. Once we got a puppy ( I was 6) and my mom said I could show dad in the morning ( now mind you he got home from a business trip around 2 am ) at 6 am I went running into the room , yelled "dad look what we got" and launched the puppy onto him. Being my dad he blinked, said " that's nice snicklefritz" shoved the dog to the floor and went back to sleep.

Good news and bad news in my life.

Good news is, I got to go shopping for clothes today with Dani (my best friend)! And found the most GOREGEOUS jackets ever (two, one's green, one's all wild warm colors), I might take pics later if I find the camera...

Bad news, schools tomorrow. Bleah. I'll get to see my friends mostly every day, but still... it's school. You kinda have to get depressed over it....
