Firsties!!!

Welcome back folks.

Ponderer: if somebody from New Orleans parks a big ass camper trailer in your apartment complex taking up like 6 spots and leaving you parking all the way across the complex just to find a spot, does it make you a jerk to want them kicked the heck out? I mean it's a minor annoyance and I know they've been dislocated from their homes but wtf they aren't paying to live in this complex. There have to be RV camps around.

I never said they'd be pictures of me.

We're doing this stupid thing at work right now where everyone is supposed to take like 5 minutes to do a little presentation to our department about who they are. Everyone is putting pictures in theirs. I feel like saying "I own a mirror. So, I've never seen a need to take a picture of myself. You want a picture of me then take it yourself." Also I want to point out that traveling is lame. Cause everyone so far as has said "I like to travel" or something very similar to that. Zeek needs not this travel you speak of. Zeek have discover channel, travel channel, etc. TV like travel whole world real quick and real cheap. Zeek beats the system.

Zeek may enjoy travel when he finds beautiful travel companion to sit on warm beaches and skinny dip in warm ocean.

Or maybe not.

NVG here!

Okay, here is a quick rundown to explain the crooked look in the pic.

I am still drunk.

Yayyy.

After an awesome 76th party where I got to meet awesome folkses (and accepted sanctioned nibbles) we went for a walk. Party in the lobby of the Hyatt, wandered around for a bit, I served as security for a Scottish Rockstar (A/B Michael who played the part so well that I was able to empty elevators for him and keep a perimeter cleared so we could move freely through crowds), apparently I ate parts of a candy bra off a girl who later the next day saw us on an elevator and asked if I remembered her, and I lost my sharpie after I was mistaken for the guy who plays Te'alc (sp) on Stargate. The march on Saturday morning was great. Okay, I felt like ass, but it was fantastic. This was only one night.

end transmission

Doesn't seem like the traveling would have much to do with it. Though that's exactly what I would expect needs to happen to get me traveling. It wouldn't so much be about going anywhere but about spending time with beautiful travel companion.

Does Austin have warm secluded beaches just prime for skinny dipping? And there is a certain...fire in exotic places that just can't be duplicated at home. What about a small cabin in snow covered woods? Snuggled up by the fire? There's some magic in that too. I think Zeek won't mind traveling so much once he gets a taste of doing it right.

Naw, that was me. I've been logged in as MSB for the last week as I am too lazy to log in for myself on the Mac. It was defiantely one hell of a good time. The Chatzys (PR, Roxy, Engie, Avery, Navy, and A/B Michael shared a room for three nights and it cost them around $140 each. Maybe finding folks to room with and decent airfare can get more people to attend. I met a ton of folks from online places and hope to meet more. There were lurkers at the Con who saw us that I hope to meet there sometime. And of course I got to "imagine" a Ninja Kitty hanging out at the Shindig, taking pics for the parade, and loitering in the Marriott with the Colonel and nearly causing collisions after folks would first see Doc dressed as Hellboy (awesome by the way) then her ethereal form gracing us with a glimpse. I have to say that folks from FFF and the 76th are so very pretty. I always wanted to look presentable and smell at least half decent. We're really hoping to rally folks to reserve a block of rooms in the Hyatt Regency next year. And I personally would love to part with more folks from the boards next year.

Now it is back to the real world. Invoices, inquiries, and staff complaints.

Still wishing for Browncoat Island. Also looking into Independence Valley in Northern Nevada (to fulfill that snuggling by the fire on a snowy evening feeling).

No beaches. We do have that fire stuff though. I saw a bunch of fire trucks flying by yesterday. We really really don't have snow. That's a good thing though. These people couldn't drive in snow if their lives depended on it.

Really I can't see me ever wanting to just sit on a beach. Just sitting around makes me antsy. I want to be doing something that feels at least semi-productive. Probably another reason why traveling in general annoys me. It's usually not productive at all.

Here’s a ponder: Have you ever had the experience of seeing something announced publically that you know from personal experience is completely bullshit? It’s so carefully worded to avoid the truth without out-right lying that it makes your blood boil? Ever been in the right every single time and still had the universe move against you?

Sigh. My blood pressure is up way too high today because of this shit. I’m going to go look at D*C pics and try to cool off before I go murder someone.

I feel like listening to politicians is always that way. They skate around facts and anything truthful while at the same time trying to not say anything of substance.

I've read some email responses people have gotten from the pres candidates on different subjects and they're ridiculous. They give you a page of just nothing.

I guess that's not exactly the same cause you're saying they're flat out lying. I've only seen that at work really. They like to call things a success when they were a royal failure. It's annoying.

Yeah that's never entered my fantasies. Even if the beach is secluded it doesn't do anything for me. Why would I want to be outdoors doing romantic stuff? I don't need sand and bugs all over me while I'm trying to be romantic. Zeek does not understand this fantasy.

Oh man, if *only* it were newscasters, MsB. No, I'm talking about a press release. On something I have first hand knowledge of. Because I spent a year and a half of my life on it. Because it's the only professional project I've ever actually cried over.

Seriously, I acutally know where the guys who did this are today. And it's within driving distance. I could actually go throw things at them. Moldy rotten things. Or you know, bullets. But even showing up would make them feel like they somehow got to me, and I'm not willing to give them that pleasure.

Thanks for the video NV. My computer is being shitty right now, but I'll see if I can get it to play in a bit here.

Well I could go throw rotten fruit. I'm not going to, but I could. ;)

Actually, what I think I'll do is snub the guy who was on that project back in the day, who wants me to go out with him and a group of friends for a drink tonight. And be extra snarky in reply to him asking if I know how to get BlizzCon tickets at this point. I was mostly over his involvement in this, since he left that company earlier this year, but today he get's the full wrath of my cold shoulder. ;)

Ok, I must distract myself, or I'm going to end up dumpster diving for rotten fruit to go throw at those idiots.

Ok, so, D*C questions. I am trying to convince hubby to go next year. Probably not much chance of it, but doing costume sketches is a great distraction! So here's my list for those of you lucky enough to have gone, in no particular order:

1. When do tickets for 09 go on sale, does anyone know?

2. How early can you book a hotel room?

3. How cold/warm is it inside the hotels? In the conference rooms or just walking around the lobby or whatever?

4. Do you have to show your badge all the time? From the pictures I've seen on Flickr, a lot of people have their badge clipped to their costumes, but then there are lots of other people who don't have a visible badge at all. If you have it on you but not visible, is that enough?

Ok, I'm sure I'll come up with others, but that's what I've been curious about while showing hubby pics on Flickr and starting on costume sketches. ;)

I saw one post that said they open hotel booking after the new year starts. I've never gone though and I didn't know the person who said that. So, reliability rating of 15-20% on that statement I'd say. But I'm so bored today that I'll still reply with my 15-20% of info for 1 out of 4 of the questions

1. D*C tickets were on sale the second day of the Con.

2. You can reserve rooms Now (rumor says at the Hyatt but it is not confirmed), if not now then at the start of the year.

3. Depending on the hotel and the amount of people, about 75-80 degrees average. Remember, Atlanta is humid so you might not be sweating but you may be sticky. The large room we saw the Nathan/Jewel/Aln panel in it was very cool and insanely pleasing and I was in full uniform.

4. I'm sure all the people related to the COn have to wear their badges. A few places require them for entry. It is better to have it than not.

ADD: Costumes are not mandatory but sure do make the Con more fun. Seems I really liked the "barely" costumes on the Friday night. Though I do not remember talking with the Ivy chick at length...

Look! Real answers! ;)

1. Right, but for those of us not lucky enough to have gone this year, they will start selling them on the D*C site soon, right? Planning ahead and getting the best prices might be my best bet for getting to go next year. ;) Right now it doesn't look like they're selling them on the site yet, and the only promising thing I saw was that the "Eternal" passes will be up for sale again starting Sept 8. So maybe that's when they'll put up the 09 passes?

2. Oh the Hyatt might be available already?? Good to know!

3. Right so, I'm actually asking for the other direction -- are any of the ladies cold? I tend to get cold very easily, but I don't really want to have a ton of layers in my costume. For instance, it bugs the hell out of me when movie theaters blast the AC during the summer, because it means that I can't wear what I was comfortable wearing outside, I have to bundle up for the 20+ degree drop. So I was wondering if the hotels blasted the AC, or if it was warm-ish inside as well as out? Sounds like it might be (which might help explain why there are so many skimpy costumes, hehe).

4. Hmm, interesting about the badge. I've been debating trying to design some out-of-the way place to clip it onto the costume, or sewing in a badge-sized pocket. I would really prefer it not to be visible, except when I need to show it to Con staff. Where do all the skimpy-costume-girls put their badges??

5. Check, costumes not required. But I like designing and sewing costumes, especially when I have a really long time to work on it. Also, since it's a really long shot that I'll get to go at all, it's mostly about the fantasy of designing a costume right now. ;)

TY for the info NVG!

Sand and bugs? Not so much. Warm ocean water? not so bad. ;)

And yes, I have NOTHING to say regarding D*C, so I'm stinking with the 'try-to-persuade-Zeek-that-travel-really-isn't-as-bad-as-he-thinks-it-is-even-though-I-kind-of-think-it-sucks-because-who-reallly-wants-to-pack-and-leave-home-for-that-long-anyway?' line of conversation.

I've only ever been to swing dance conventions and I really didn't enjoy myself. I'm not a drinker in anyway that leads to wildness or even to lending comfortable chats with people I don't know, so I can only see D*C as half a week of torture. (not that you are all torturers...but my HIGHLY introverted self would surely revolt.)

The D*C staff will be back on the 8th and I believe you can purchase memberships then. You will get a postcard in the mail eventually that you must take with you to Atlanta to get the badge. You DO have to show your badge to get into panels, the dealers' room the walk of fame, etc. So it's good to have it with you all the time. (You can ask for a lanyard to wear it around your neck or buy one.)
The hotels are NOT what I would consider "movie theater" cold - and I arrived BEFORE D*C (Wednesday afternoon) - they were comfortable - 72 degrees. After the Con started (what with literally hundreds walking in and out) the hotels were actually quite warm.
You 'may' be able to reserve a room for next year - but not at the 'con' rate which is negotiated each year by the D*C folk.

Ocean water!?! Haven't you seen jaws? And there's sting rays and...and...pirates...and other bad stuff I'm sure.

Yeah I'm the same on the socializing side of things. If I went to D*C I'd be all for going to the panels and getting my picture taken with the BDHs but not so much into the partying and such. I'd probably just get back to my room and watch TV or just get extra vacationy sleep (I hated when we'd go on a family vacation or something as a kid and the plan was to get up extra early to do stuff...we're on vacation darn it!!!)

Thankee Sister. I noticed the change too. It was a bit cooler Wednesday and Tuesday (in and out for MSB and myself) as there were CONSIDERABLY less people about.

I am still considering alternate costumage for next year. I really wanted something easy to pack, moderately recognizable, and hides my identity. Not an easy feat (the identity thing), but it just sounds like fun.

And I can imagine how much better the skimpy costumes had to feel. Of course they rose the temps of other con goers so the lessening of surrounding tempratures had to be negligable at best.

Membership = Con badge, same thing, different words.

Book your hotel early is you want to make sure you stay in one of the main ones.

Sister is right, so far as I know, in that the memberships will be available again starting Monday, Sept. 8th. At verious intervals, as the Con gets closer, the price will go up. The first of such increases is around the middle of November, IIRC. There is also an available option of going with a group of 10 or more, it takes $5 off the price of everyone involved's badges.

Yeah because it was believed that AIDS was contracted from the monkeys. Not the band but the animal. And we just wanted to deal with that issue - just a couple of points. Just changing the attitude towards AIDS from being "Eww AIDSy" to more like "Oh! Fun monkey disease"

CK - there's usually a wait for the 'con' rate at the hotels - in other words I think generally I've booked at the beginning of the year for that year's convention. There are a number of people here who keep a close watch on when those rates become available and they will post about it. This year I booked at the con rate and then later extended my stay by one day and had to pay the full rate for one night ($349!!) but that was okay with me as this is my one big splurge of the year.

Good morning Ponderers.

Okay, I get to wondering if there is something wrong with me. I love the idea of staying in bed all day and doing nothing but laying about, eating every so often, maybe watching TV. But then my body takes over and insists on more active pursuits and I just can't tell it NO.

I wonder if there is something wrong with me. First off I'd like to say that having been with someone previously who didn't like to do much extra curricular or recreational activity and never went anywhere with me that didn't have her primary intrests on hand really sucked. I can honestly say that I am trying to make up for lost time.

Does anyone else have this problem? I use my brain (it is a taxing task) all week to solve problems and absorb a lot of stress in the process.

How do I relax?

Help me!

Can't help. I'm more or less the same way. I can't just relax. There has to be something else going on. The most "nothing" I can do is watch movies or tv. Other than that I have to be doing something that seems at least slightly productive.

Hit me over the head?

Haven't you ever heard that No means No? (insert non-working emoty thingy here)

I can relax. It just takes work.

Man I sound dumb.

At the end of a stressful day, I take my dog out into the field near our house and play with him. Then I go exercise for 45 minutes.

After that, stress is gone, and I feel fine loafing about.
