Okay, so here it goes. Since we all have been fighting over whether Mal or Jayne is better we should all take each of the nine passengers aboard Serenity and say at least one thing that we think is truly cool/special/different/why we like them about each of them (no cop-outs)

Here it goes:

Jayne: He hit a guy in the neck with a bent scope from really far away (what was it 50 ft away?) plus, he's likeable for no apparant reason

Zoe: She can kill any man with her pinky

Malcolm: He admits it when he's wrong, and he loves his crew

Inara: She's just so beautiful and poised and i love the look on her face in OMR while she says "You stupid son-of-a..."

Simon: He's such a bumbling schmuck and i love him for it, plus i love intelligence in a guy

Kaylee: She finds something good in any situation, plus we share the same name how cool is that?

Wash: He's a tall semi-muscular man! Plus he's hilarious

Book: His genuine care for everyone

River: The beautiful and graceful way she moves.

There we go...now its YOUR turn.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
MAL: This is my scrap of nowhere. You go on and find your own.
SAFFRON: You can't just leave me here, on this
lifeless piece of crap moon...
MAL: Sure I can.
SAFFRON: I'll die.
MAL: Well, as a courtesy, you might start
getting busy on that, cause all this chatter ain't doin' me any kindness.

CAGEYBEE

deal.

jayne- i love jayne. he's so funny and deep down, he's a good guy. but mostly, he's so damn sexy.

mal- while just about everything about mal is delicious, his loyalty is what gets me every time. it makes him so perfect and so human all at the same time.

wash- i'm all about the sense of humor. everyone has a kid inside, and it takes quite the guy to let their's out as well as wash does.

simon- what he did for his sister is beyond words to me. to give up everything you have ever known and worked for.....like i said, beyond words.

book- his mystery is my favorite thing about him. i hope it gets wonderfully complicated in the big damn movie.

zoe- could you be any cooler? no

inara- she's gorgeous, but well-adjusted. if only my beauty didn't give me such a big head.

kaylee- how can you not smile when kaylee's around? when mal said she was dead in serenity, i wept....and i didn't even cry at the end of old yeller.

river- i gotta go with mystery here too. i love not knowing everything, that way i can invent crazy ideas and spread them around fan message boards.

ok, all that said, can i still incite riots on other threads? its in my nature

me

~Mal- "how drunk was i last night?"
~Jayne- "i don't know. i passed out."

ANKHAGOGO

Okay, I'll play!

Mal - I love the loyalty and the protectiveness and the integrity, I love that he's rather bitter yet still has a sense of humour but I also like that he doesn't always have the answers and that he can be a complete jackass, particularly when it comes to "this is my gorram ship, I am the boss of you, and if you don't like it, get the hell off!"
Plus if you were on his crew, you would always feel safe. Mal would never let anything happen to you if he could help it.
Also - the pants.

Zoe - Zoe's just an all-around cool chick. She can fight like I don't know what, but you never doubt that she's a total female. she seems more or less at peace with her life (kids not withstanding). I also really like that she will very rarely disagree with Mal in front of the rest of the crew and generally only talks smack about him to his face. That's exactly how a second in command should be.

Wash - I love Wash's humour, yes, but I also love that he's not entirely comfortable with the closeness that Mal and Zoe have. He doesn't want to drive a wedge between them, but he's jealous of it at the same time. It's a fine line he's walking, and I find it very interesting to watch him walk it.

Simon - I just LOVE that Simon can't talk to Kaylee without putting his foot in his mouth. It's terribly endearing, and, of course, I adore the fact that he did just pitch his whole life away to make sure his little sister was safe. He can't fight his way out of a paper bag most days, but he will do his best to kick the ass of anyone who hurts River.

River -- I love River's very screwed-up-ed-ness. It makes me want to give her hot chocolate with little marshmellows and tell her it's all gonna be ok. I love that she seems so fragile alot of the time, but that she is not going to let what "they" did to her break her.

Jayne -- Sorry, I love Jayne mostly
because I don't trust him as far as I could spit a dead rat. After Ariel, I trust him a skootch more, but still -- nope, don't trust him. I also love that he has absolutely no brain-to-mouth filter, and the fact that he apparently wasn't there the day they handed out morals. I also love that he does seem to be gaining the vaguest hint of morals, though.

Inara -- Man, I didn't like Inara at all until Our Mrs Reynolds. Then she started to grow on me, and after getting the DVDs, I noticed how much of a nurturer she is. She plays big sister to Kaylee and River, and has no problem verbally smacking Mal down when he is being, as previously mentioned, a total jackass. I also like that she's not really the pulled-together ice princess that she likes to think she is, at least not in my opinion.

Book - Of course the mystery. I like making up theories about Book's past, and I like that I'm not quite sure what he'll do next in any given situation. Everyone else you can more or less guess pretty accurately what they'll do -- not Book. All bets are off when it comes to our preacher, and that's a-okay with me.

Kaylee - Aw. I love Kaylee. She's just so -- happy and positive and all-around sweet. How can you not love a girl who gets shot, is positive the doctor she just met wasn't really going to let her die, then says, "It's nobody's fault" when everyone else is ready to pitch Simon out of the airlock?

"We're just happy to be doin' good works."

Mal: He knows none of it means a damn thing
Zoe: She watches over everyone; we need her in the back
Wash: He can fly this bird, despite being an inadequate mate for Zoe
Kaylee: Machines talk to her
Inara: She can earn an honest living
Jayne: He frightens the women. 'K, this is ironic - there's nothing cool about Jayne, tho Adam Baldwin is cute and funny
Simon: He's gay
River: She bears secrets that she can't share
Book: He wants River, or her secrets, kept safe regardless of her innocence

GRACEOM

Mal--Great leadership skills. He gets loyalty (even from those who don't like him all that much) because he gives it--totally. Even when he's wrong, he's worth following.

Zoe--Is there anybody you'd rather have watching your back?

Jayne--A tough one for me. It's taken me a while to get over the feeling that Mal made a huge mistake not pushing him out the airlock at the end of Ariel. Still, I don't think he'll betray them again anytime soon. Certainly a handy guy to have on your side in a fight.

Wash--Gotta love a guy who still plays with plastic dinosaurs. Plus his utter devotion to Zoe is endearing.

Kaylee--She is the heart and soul of Serenity.

Inara--Someone else said nurturing...and that's it really. She's "Mom" to everybody that needs one. Which includes most of them at one time or another.

Simon--He knows what loyalty is all about, doesn't he?

River--Everybody needs a psychic She just is special.

Book--Everybody's conscience

DANALYNN26

Jayne: I love that Jayne says whatever he wants no matter how inappropriate. Sometimes I wish I could do that. I also love that he named his gun Vera.

Mal: I love that Mal will do anything for his crew even though he has given up on everything else. He is a great leader.

Wash: Wash is hilarious, I love him and Zoe together. Plus the dinosaurs (Wacky Fun)

Zoe: Zoe kicks ass. I mean she didn't even flinch when niska cut off Mal's ears.

Simon: I love how he always messes up with Kaylee because he likes her so much and of course what he did for River.

Kaylee: I kind of think of Kaylee as the sunshine of the group she tries to make everyone else happy and see the best of the situation.

Inara: Inara nurtures everyone but I love that she gives as good as she gets with Mal.

Book: I love that books tries to bring morals to the crew. I also love his friendship w/ Jayne.

River: You never know what River is going to say which makes her fun.

Dana

INSIGHT SPINNER

I wanna play!!

Here's a twist -- since my virtues cards* are sitting in front of me, I decided to do a virtues pick for the crew/passengers. I have a set of cards representing 52 common/universal virtues and, while thinking of each character, I pick a card.

Mal -- unity. Mal is the essence of unity for Serenity, as he is the one that brought the group together as a crew. He and Zoe are one in their own way, he chose each of the other crew members and he chose to allow Book and Simon to be welcome. River is the greater part of why Simon was chosen. (pretty good first pick, eh?)

Zoe -- patience. This is unexpected, but also accurate. Zoe is a woman of action, but one who never reacts or acts rashly. She waits for the proper opportunity of for need to require her action. And clearly, Zoe can endure without complaining through trust and see the end in the beginning. So this fits. Except she's running out of patience with Wash wrt a child.

Wash -- responsibility. Oooh. that's a tough one. Of course he is responsible for the safety of the entire crew as pilot, but he also feels responsible for Zoe, but knows that he is not in a position to protect her from harm, since being in harms way is a part of her job and what makes them all special.

Kaylee -- trust. Well, Kaylee is a big ol' bucket of trust, isn't she? She trusts the captain is more shining gold than grit and believes in the rightness of tehem making a world and family in the black. She probably also trusts Simon to mess up any romantic moment....

Jayne -- tact. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAAAAAAAAA!!!! That's downright unsettlin'. Okay, so this isn't an oracle people. Jayne is tactless -- and his hat is sweet, but tack-y. But tact also means knowing when to stay silent (from the card) and I think he has learned to keep his mouth shut about River and Simon. So, maybe this is an indication of the work Jayne needs to do in the world. Also, let me say I love that Jayne has to touch or sniff everything -- it's so primal!

Inara -- flexibility. [don't make faces -- or laugh]. First, write your own jokes. Now, let's face it, the woman has had to be very flexible in her work in order to accomodate the heists, capers and hi-jinx onboard Serenity, yes? She does it with grace, charm, wit and frankness when required. I think companions must have special training in such flexibility and it probably is one of the most intense aspects of theri training. Making chages doesn't mean losing yourself, only that you are becoming better. (from the card)

Book -- faithfulness. I kid you not. When you are faithful to your beliefs, others can see your values in the way you act. That is surely true of Book, who many others have said is the conscience of Serenity. It is his faithfulness that gives him the strength to ever be the conscience, even when he resorts to violent actions.

River -- purposefulness. Well, she rarely has a clear focus, but tht's not her fault. In OIS, River was extremely purposeful, from her tactile walk through the ship until her incredible plan to save everyone from Jubal Early. She is a genius, so her vast cognitive ability is almost always shown as a purposefullness of thought.

Simon -- generosity. He gave it all up for River. 'nuff said.

WHEEEE!! that was fun!
